Mitt Romney Vs Ron Paul - Who Do You Choose?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Please explain how a vote for any loser, regardless of the margin, benefits posterity, your direct own, or in general. By the way, it's "principle" on which you wish to stand. Henry Clay said, "I'd rather be right than President". That proved to be true, 5 times, but he didn't affect posterity in any way as much as did the various folks who beat him. - OS -
Every thread re this gun, folks say they can't find one, or they're outrageously expensive. CDNN shows in latest catalog, both 9mm and .40 models in stock, $299 + $20 ship. If you've got a $30 transfer/TICS FFL, that'll be $350 in hand. Glock configs, but doesn't say which ones. Just a FYI. - OS

Fishing in open water, pretty common to have sharks trail or strike at your catch, just not usually from your backyard on small estuary or canal or whatever that is. Then again, makes sense if that's a bull shark, as they are known to go way up rivers, can do just fine in brackish water, and even tolerate pure fresh water for some time. - OS

It was standard issue to some mobile foot units in World War Z. Remember the woman soldier who had to climb the tree? Brain just needs to be disrupted some, doesn't need to be puree. Hey, Brooks knows his stuff. Might have to double tap a few when you get too oblique and glance off the skull instead of penetrate. No biggie with a 10/22 and a buncha 25 round mags. - OS

4473 Has Changed, Hispanic/Latino No Longer a Race
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That probably is the bottom line. You can't build a data base on a field that's not reported, even if the BATF doesn't destroy the records daily like they're, you know, supposed to and all. Probably just a result of a bigger revision on federal form stuff, most of which is data based and cross referenced to death. - OS -
Lt. Gov Ramsey calls 2nd amendmant advocates "bullies"
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wasn't long ago that most of TGO was behind Ramsey for Gov. As always, life is fraught with irony. - OS -
4473 Has Changed, Hispanic/Latino No Longer a Race
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, first you need to know if other federal forms are reflecting whatever this is, or is ONLY about gun sales? - OS -
4473 Has Changed, Hispanic/Latino No Longer a Race
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Logical assumption, and agree it is at least part of the intent. I just sure don't quite get how the difference in reporting yourself as an Ethnicity rather than a Race makes any diff as to the overall database? I assume that all folks of Mexican or indeed any Central/South American descent (and I suppose Spain/ Portugal) will just check 10a but nothing in 10b. Matter of fact, I can't hardly understand anyone checking anything in 10b also checking Hispanic/Latino in 10a at all, which the thing seems to allow? Maybe it's unreasonable to expect any valid logic from it all though, like most of BATF itself. - OS -

So, while shooting various handguns over the last 3 weeks or so, yesterday, just sort of noticed: I seem to have rather suddenly just gotten better past 10 yards. Was shooting mostly at 45 feet, standing with no support, and just chewing up pie plates and/or even smaller splatter targets, with at least half toward the center, really more of one of my 7 yard looking performances on most of the targets. Variety of guns and calibers too, so not due to mucho practice with just one. Talking couple of different XD 9mm, Beretta 92, Ruger .357 revolver, couple different .22 Neos, even an antique H&R .22 revo. No new techniques or tips or whatever, just shooting for personal enjoyment as always. Admittedly, have shot a little more frequently than my average perhaps, but not much more so, and never had a "breakthrough" during periods where I shot even more frequently. I know I shouldn't even mention this, kiss of death and all. But I'm generally less than average pistol shot, so I've been quite elated; it's probably short lived, like those rare occasions of stringing together a few golf rounds in the 70's along with that feeling of "aha, I've got it now"! Which of course, always vaporizes, as it, like pistol shooting, has always seemed more art than science to me. Anyway, any of y'all ever feel like you make a mysterious quantum leap with yer handheld heaters? Comes and goes, or what? - OS

The tyranny is set too deeply now. Nothing can really change until after a Big Pain. I didn't see this as an option, so I didn't vote. - OS ---------------- "The Soviet Union had a single, entrenched, systemically corrupt political party, which held a monopoly on power. The U.S. has two entrenched, systemically corrupt political parties, whose positions are often indistinguishable, and which together hold a monopoly on power. In either case, there is, or was, a single governing elite, but in the United States it organized itself into opposing teams to make its stranglehold on power seem more sportsmanlike." Yep, significant factor as to why I tune in as frequently as I do to the non-fireams part of TGO. - OS

Always suggests to moi that the citizenry should not be voting for ANYone except their reps in the House. Let the House decide the Senate, as it used to, and also decide the Prez. If folks had to focus on holding only their local pols' feet to the fire every two years for EVERYthing, this would be a vastly different country at this point. Better country? No guarantees as per The Lester Weevils Alternate History Theorem, but quite likely yes, IMHO. - OS

There's another choice 'cept for Greyhound? You've got an HCP. Pack one on yer person, throw the other in a backpack and thumb on down there. Ain't nothing cheaper than that. - OS

Very odd, saw this on another forum, not sure what the intent really is here, and haven't done any reading on it yet. Previous 4473: 10. Race (Ethnicity) (Check one or more boxes) American Indian or Alaska Native Black or African American Hispanic or Latino Asian Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander White =================================== New 4473: Separate sections: 10a: Ethnicity Hispanic or Latino Not Hispanic or Latino 10b: Race (check one or more boxes) American Indian or Alaska Native Black or African American Asian Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander White ================== So, EVERYone must answer the Hispanic Latino section, and it's no longer a "race" like the others, but an "ethnicity"? And so you can now be: American Indian or Alaska Native Hispanic/Latino or Black or African American Hispanic/Latino or Asian Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander Hispanic/Latino or now, finally, just like George Zimmerman was christened in the press, a White Hispanic/Latino! - OS edit: new form same place (and same name, watch for overwriting in same download location if you already have it) at: http://www.atf.gov/f...tf-f-4473-1.pdf This one is cut/copy protected, even if you use save a copy. It's also somehow 72k versus the previous 5483K, even though both are same 6 pages, diff in print rez perhaps, dunno.

The Elephants and Donkeys deserve the BIRD
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'll say this, anybody who does the Red Eye show several times is all right by me. It also proved him to be quite the insightful and witty fellow, which may not have been apparent in his (I think, two?) national debate appearances. So, I'd vote for GJ on that alone, if he had any chance of winning at all. I voted Libertarian last election in general disgruntlement, didn't matter since TN went red. Sure hope it does again, as I really do think this IS the most important election since who knows when in history. It may be USA's last chance, or it may not matter since we're already past the tipping point, but even if so, there's no sense hurrying to The Fall with BHO. - OS -
Mitt ain't a RINO. He's right in the middle of mainstream GOP reality. Matter of fact, most all the folks accused of being RINOs, aren't. At one time, sure, but not now -- they're right in the party bell curve norm. Anything right of them is the fringe party element. Which as I predicted is being absorbed and diluted. It's a reflection of the actual voting citizenry. Mitt is about as conservative a prez that will have a chance to be elected for some time, maybe ever -- until we have undergone the inevitable society wide Big Pain. - OS

Certainly, the US government has basically proscribed them, what with their upside down food pyramid nonsense. - OS

Police: Hug Triggers Officer's Gun, Kills Woman
Oh Shoot replied to Curiousgb's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
There ya go Dolomite ... somebody has finally agreed with ya on the only way the gal could get popped in the upper torso, on her knees. Right. Came pretty belated though, sounds forced, like finally somebody thought duh, how could a gun carried in any method on the waist have that angle of fire? No other story of course, has even mentioned it, and it's come belatedly, so probably somebody grasping at straws, too. The poor coverage continues, because nobody in the media knows the methods of how guns are carried; my head almost exploded today watching Shep's segment on FOX with the two lawyers debating the "when a cop should be on high alert and have his gun ready opposed to when it should be on safety", hair triggers, and other absolute crapola. - OS -
Well, TN requires a TN permit within 6 months of establishing residency here. If other states don't require their residents get an in-state permit at all, they don't have reason to fuss. 'Course, better for the states that don't require permits at all. Very simple, eh? - OS

Folks have stayed on carb restricted diets indefinitely with zero ill effects and without supplement. Carbs themselves provide no necessary nutriments, the human body can do just fine with zero carbs forever, though you really can't avoid getting some carbs even if you went strictly Cro-Magnon . With combo of meats, low carb dairy, and low carb veggies, you can get everything the body needs, including enough fiber. Of course, a good daily dose of psyllium seed (Metamucil and the like) ain't a bad supplement idea for anyone, and a damn good idea for anyone with diverticulosis, which is maybe half of us past 50 in the US. Daily multi-vitamin also ain't a terrible idea no matter how you eat. May be totally unnecessary, depending, but almost universally agreed that it can't hurt. Not really. Ketosis can make breath and urine smell oddly, most report either more of a sweetish or metallic taste (though some feel it's really gross); and it seems to be much more noticeable by the individual himself than by others -- I think the sweat smell thing in particular has become more of internet urban legend from the original anti-Atkins crowd, along with all the others, like "too much protein causes kidney failure" and the like. When I first strictly low carbed, ie under 15/day in "induction mode" and even kept up with ketone cycle with piss strips, I'd get the metallic taste in mouth and different pee smell once in a while (which btw was never nearly as strong as say, pee smell after eating asparagus), but not all the time. Anyway, I never noticed it except during the most severely limited carb periods, which are pretty difficult to maintain for more than a few months, just takes too much research and planning, and not necessary to keep losing weight anyway. Somewhere around 30-40 carbs per day or so, the taste/smell thing seems to go away, even though the body is still in ketosis mode much of the time, and of course even 100 grams of carbs per day is still relatively "low carb" compared to fact that the gummit "recommended am" is 300 grams, and many Americans eat twice or more than THAT. It's tough to do initially, but simply eliminating bread, pasta, and potatoes from one's diet will drop a bunch of pounds off anyone, even if exact same caloric intake is maintained. Drop candy/ice cream/other sweets and it'll be even more drastic, even if same calorie intake is maintained via meat/veggies/dairy/etc. It really is true that not all calories are equal. - OS edit: all of this is to say I need to get back on my lower carb WOA (Way Of Eating); I've done pretty well over the last decade with it, but have fallen off the wagon in last 6 months and gained some weight back. Ironically, as I started exercising more and getting stronger, I let the extra effort trick me into thinking I could hit the carbs heavier. Combo of beans, fruit, rice, bread, spuds, combined with hurting my foot so little exercise for a couple weeks, and suddenly I've much overridden the exercise itself to put on 10 extra non-muscle pounds. So perhaps a blessing to see this thread, get me back on things.

Wowser. Well, I guess with that double handful of fine steel, you're a newb no more. Enjoy. - OS

Magazine Speed Loaders, Need Info
Oh Shoot replied to runco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Sorta, sometimes. Just depends on how revolutionary the gizmo is. Most gun accessories don't stand alone long. Look at kydex/leather hybrid holsters. I thought it was ironic that Crossbreed filed a patent, after ripping off the first couple of big makers of them (Tucker, ComTac) then threatens the Kholster guy, who shuts down for a month or two, and has to come out with a different enough design to duck the heat (that's why his are now round, uncut). Now there are any number of companies making them, including some of the traditional big boys, and you can bet they didn't have to cough up anything to Craighead either. Because they have big boy attorneys. Anyway, the product patent thing is legal shifting sand in many cases. - OS -
Fortunately not 2/3 control though.

No law against minors possessing/owning long guns or handguns for legal sporting purposes. Most things with minor children generally come down to DHS actions if anything goes badly, including the rather iffy part of just when a kid is old enough to possess a loaded gun without supervision. I myself got my first gun, a .22 pump, on my 12th Christmas, and at 15 could take it (and a shotgun I'd been given by then, too) out shooting/hunting by myself. But of course that was back when the world was young and one couldn't hardly walk around without stepping in common sense. - OS
