If you buy the Enfield they are sold as .58 cal. It shoots the Minie Ball and packs one heck of a wollup! The true caliber is .577 and the .58 minie ball will have to be put through a sizing die for best loading and accuracy. Don't fret none....I think I have an extra one in the shop that I will give to you. I do a lot of reenacting and my favorite was Civil War Artillery. Just something about having a "big gun" that gives you a sense of superiority. Now, I went back to my Longhunter/Woodland Indian persona. Welcome to the SCV, and reenacting! Dave

Google "Civil War Sutlers" and you will find a ton of reproduction Springfields and 1853 Enfields. The 1853 Enfield was the preferred rifle of the Confederacy. They shoot nice and are very accurate! Dave

I didn't get to shoot yesterday, will try again today. Brother LukeE gave me some info on Facebook and I was tracking down some tools for the AR. I found an Armorer's tool kit at Academy and picked one up. I got my single point sling adaptor attached and I really like it. I am having problems finding rings for the tactical scope I bought for it. I guess I'll carry the scope to the LGS and try different one's for proper fit. Everything I'm being sold fits the scope too loose. I can't have that nonsense! So, we shall try again today. I can say that "out of the box" it appeared to shoot low. That may be due to my eyes. I moved the rear peep forward as far as it would go which obviously helped as I'm blowing coke cans to pieces right now. Other than moving the rear sight forward on the rail, I've not touched the sights. My eyes are not good anymore so I need it scoped to hunt with. I bought a tactical (compact) rifle scope and it came with mounts. However, when mounted, I can't get my face down on the stock low enough to see through the scope, so I'm having to Raise the scope on the rail. Hence fore the problem. Every set of "high rise" mounts I get, the rings doesn't fit the scope. I have scoped more rifles than I can remember, but this is about to drive me nuts! I'll give it another shot today. Wish me luck! Dave

I must admit that I'm addicted to Facebook. I use it to stay in touch with friends and family, to include some of my TGO brothers. I make it clear from the get go, that game request are not accepted. Plus I have a few other little pet peeves. Dave

Unless she can prove ownership, sorry to say, but it's all on her! Dave -
Using the toes? That's awesome stuff! Dave

UncleJak, Most processers will give you the feet if you ask them. But, I'll save you some. When I ran my Taxidermy Shop, I used to make awful good money making things from deer feet. Dave

I process my own, but don't know how I would get the feet to you. Frozen and shipped? Dave

Yes, and a tad bit less time for a follow up shot. It took awhile to realize it didn't need a "rammer". Dave

I'm actually thinking about that Dave. The AR bug has bitten! Dave

I seem to remember back in my Army Daze, having a "25 yard battle sight zero". I'll zero it at 50 and be happy with it. I'll do some varmint hunting with it and keep it around for defensive purposes. Thanks for the info OS! Dave

My neighbor is active duty SF and I talked to him a bit ago, and he said they S*** canned the metal mags, and the guys bought their own plastic mags. I guess I'm just old fashioned is all. These Pmags will grow on me I suppose. Dave

I fired it out back when I got it. It shoots really smooth and cycles faster than I can blink. Out of the box it shot just a tad high. My SIL whom has built several under the advice of Dolomite, checked it out and said the bolt seemed a little tight, but may be due to being new. I do not like the plastic Pmag magazines as I'm a old school M-16 kind of guy and like the metal mags. I ordered optics for it yesterday, and as soon as I get some "glass" on it, I'll share some target info with you. Dave

So y'all know, the LGS I got it from (I've done a lot of business there) "Out the Door" with my LE discount, TICS, Tax and a box of ammo was $625 I don't feel I could have done better. Thanks for all the info, and to OS for sending me that direction! Dave
