  1. I don't think "H&R" Single shot rifles could be considered "primitive" seeing that they are of modern manufacture. Leave muzzleloader as is or better yet....go "primitive"....   Dave
  2. NO!!!! We have a rifle season where "Centerfire" weapons are permitted. I have in the past and will in the future, push for a primitive season similar to PA. Sidelock Percussion and Sidelock Flint only. Move Inlines to the regular gun season!   Dave
  3. It's hard to beat the feeling you get when you put an arrow through their wind bags!   Dave
  4. Brother It's Muzzleloader season....put the stick launcher away!   Dave
  5. Semper Fi....!!!!   US Army E-7 Dave S
  6. That's about how it works. Heading in and heading out. I'm not going again until Wednesday after all the local and non local piss ants are back at work. I gave up my private property as a family feud (the property owner and his BIL) was brewing over the land. I didn't want to get caught in the middle of a family feud, so I high tailed it out of there. Now I'm looking for a place to lease.   Dave
  7. Luke, about 200 yards. I wound up almost on the boundary of the WMA. They had gotten to my spot before I did, so I went to my back up spot. The locals that hunt that area and depend on deer for food get pretty PO'd every year when these "furenor's" come in and take the deer. They do a bit of damage and cause problems every year.   Dave
  8. I thought about it Red, but felt it was just best for me to leave. I did lay on my car horn pretty good as I drove by where they were parked.   Dave
  9. I was out of the woods by 7:15am Saturday. There was a group from East Tennessee that was parked every where and one of the said there was 15 in their group that came to hunt. At daylight orange, was obviously the color of the day! Someone came in on me about 40 yards to my left rear. I tried getting their attention with my flash light, but that failed. At about 6 he shot a doe, climbed down, took her backstraps and left. Needless to say, I was pretty PO'd!   So, I stayed at home today. I will wait and hunt during the week when the Yo Yo's are at work or at home playing X-Box or went back to East Tennessee.   Dave
  10. Count me in for the third year in a row!   Dave
  11. Tennessee is one of the most expensive states to hunt in, if y'all ain't figured that out yet!   Dave
  12. Dave and his staff at TN Gun country run a top notch operation. I live about 10 minutes away from there, so the next time you come in to shoot let me know.   Dave
  13. Does it have a removable breach plug? If not Rurerla1, be very careful using a wire brush in the bore. They have a nasty habit of getting stuck in the breech. I have two friends that have already stuck one this year.   Dave
  14. I know the feeling brother!   Dave
  15. A good book to read about the day to day life of a Confederate Soldier is titled "Company Aytch" (H). Written by Sam Watkins who served in a Tennessee Infantry Regiment from the Army of Tennessee in the Western theatre. This book is well worth reading!   Of the books Moped mentioned, Killer Angels is absolutely my favorite!   Dave
  16. All good advice from China Coaster. Blockade Runner is top notch!   Dave
  17. Mike Paxton from Baxter's Battery. Good man. Not real authentic but has a heart of Gold! Dave
  18. The best advice I can give you (thirty five years experience reenacting) is find you a unit first. Find out what their uniform and equipment guidelines are. With me, authenticity is a must. Decide in your own head if you want to be authentic or just "play dress up". Me personally, I portrayed my Great Great Grandpa who served through the Nashville and Atlanta campaigns.   Find a unit, then start collecting the required uniforms and equipment. Things to avoid are items made of plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, enameled plates/cups/pans ect ect. Research every aspect of the hobby. A good unit will assign you a sponsor to help you along.   There really is so much I could tell you I don't know where to begin. If there is anything particular that you want to know, you can PM me or ask here where others may learn too. Reenacting of all time periods is a lot of fun and educational. When you experience the things (to a degree) that your ancestor did...it can get emotional.   Good Luck   Dave
  19. I'm sure it will come at that the deceased is a valued member of the community and didn't deserve to die. Seems to be the story all the time anyways. So many "good" people getting killed by innocent folks!   Dave
  20. About time the good guy wins one!   http://www.wkrn.com/story/27267135/police-respond-to-antioch-shooting   Dave

    My first AR

I got the scope mounted with the proper eye relief for my eye. I bore sighted and dialed the scope in at 25 yards. I then backed it out to 50 yards and shot. I'll do a little more shooting at 50 before I back it out to 100. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase of a Ruger AR 556. It's my first AR and I'm stoked about it! Now on to build me one in 308! Dave

You are right on the sight OS. The problem was my eyes (I require reading glasses) could not focus on the rear and front sight as close as the rear sight was to my eye. When I moved it forward (farther from my eye) I was able to focus then. Dave
  24. Chickmauga is a pretty awesome place! I may have some reenacting gear I'd be more than happy to give you if you get into it.   Dave
