  1. Another regulation is that propane tanks are required to be checked every 8 years. I had a U-Haul here on Hixson Pike that refused to fill my grill's tank due to that. I've only had the grill about 3 years but the tank had just turned 8 years old in January of this year. So, I took it to one of those exchange places and traded it in for a new one. (I checked that date on the one I was getting.) It cost me about $28 or so but it was filled. now I can take it anywhere and get it filled.

Just watch out for the Blue Rhino. They have a special valve to prevent their tanks being filled by independents. They also underfill.

  2. The biggest PITA about capacitors is having to obtain them and the wait without AC while you do. If you think it's going to go out, you could always order one (fairly cheap on ebay or the usual places) and just keep it ready.

  3. something like "he's dead and I'm going to make sure he stays that way".

It was phrased funny but it was actually either "he's not dead" or "he's still alive". I thought he was heading out to kill him and it took me a few seconds to re-parse what had been said.

  4. The Calypso Cafe in Cool Springs and the one in Belle Meade are closed.

Their Thompson Lane/100 Oaks location is open, and I think the one on Elliston Place is still open as well.

Cool. I didn't realize there were more around. I went to eat at the one in Cool Springs and it was gone so next time I was in west Nashville, I headed to the one around Elliston and it was gone too so I thought it was no more. Glad to hear that it's not.

  5. That's not a bad idea, Spiffy. I might try it sometime.

The inhabitants of Alexandria do seem to be on the...well wimpy side. Don't seem like they ever had to fight as Rick's group to survive.

The takeover maneuver could be the season ender. Rick stands up and says just that and we fade out till fall.

I think the wolves showing up will be the season ender.

  6. Ok. Thanks. I thought that's what it was. but I thought she said something like he chained Jesse and Sam. I agree with Carol. Coward assed wife beaters should die.

Could be a fake-out. Maybe Jesse is the batterer and she smashed her owl in a fit of rage. Sam drinks because he's an abused husband (maybe)

Just to add: Yet more facepalms this episode. You have a bunch of walkers you could pick off easily and instead just walk on by so they can get you later when things screw up (even worse when they leave the office where most of them could have been picked off through the window).

  7. I disagree,  this show is amazing.  NOt slow at all.

The background on Mike is some of the best TV ever.

To be fair, I hadn't seen this week's episode when I wrote that. Definitely starting to get the punches in.

  8. "The General Social Survey is administered by NORC at the University of Chicago, primarily using in-person interviewing"

    Enough said.

I wasn't able to find out what the actual details of that were. It claims to be a national survey which implies they send people out all over the country. This is not impossible but often when you look at this kind of thing, shortcuts were taken or the methodology has holes in it. I'd be more inclined to believe Gallup for sure.

  9. Looking through the data presented (which only goes 1972-2006 that I could find), the pistol/revolver stats remain fairly constant (20.3-20.0 peaking at 26.8) while the rifle and shotgun ownership falls about 10 percentage points (30.8-20.4 and 29.0-20.3 respectively).

So I think one could rightfully conclude that firearms ownership for self-defense was remaining somewhat constant with a decline in rifle and shotgun ownership being a real thing. Their numbers might still be low but they could be low by a constant amount.

The graph on the stories go to 2014 which isn't shown on the trend data I found. Sandy Hook was in 2012 so I find it hard to believe there wasn't a rise in ownership between those times simply from the panic buying that was definitely going on then.

One thing to bear in mind is we all know plenty of people who have guns and shoot but Tennessee is a state with a small population and you have to account for large cities with huge liberal populations (That is how we got Obama after all). The population of the whole of Tennessee is 6.55 million, NYC is 8.4 million and Chicago is 2.7 million for comparison.

  10. Enjoyed Dollywood though a little pricey. Gotta second the recommendation above for Holiday World though. Food reasonable and the free drinks really cut down the stress if you're holding the purse strings and watching the budget.

  11. Probably right...but just stood out to me. And with my devious and skeptical frame of mind; I just can't take anything at face value.

It seems that about everything on this show is interrelated and has some hidden meaning of a sort.

I agree. I think the stamp is relevant but it may not be directly relevant but more of a reflection of other parts of the story (relating to the "W").

On second thoughts, lets go more literal: The Zombies with the W are clearly meant to represent Republicans, (D*mn left-wing-pinko show producers) and the A clearly marks Rick as an anarchist who will smash the system which is the smoothly operating Communist Regime that is Alexandria (As previously eluded to in a throwaway comment by Madame President). The A is missing its exterior circle which is instead provided by the encircling metal wall (which is also a reference to the iron curtain). "Button" the horse is symbolic of the buttons of the two nuclear super-powers which would have unleashed nuclear Armageddon if pushed.

    Or not. Dunno.

  12. Why is he bringing back bits of motorcycles when there must be dealerships stacked high with unsold vehicles never even mind all the garaged ones?

  13. Firefox

    sometimes cygwin

    one of the office clones

smartmontools when I remember (flags up smart errors from your hard-drive)

    VLC

TightVNC (Though I think it's time to switch to Tiger VNC)

    Steam

Then I have a \bin directory I copy over which contains putty, pscp, 7zip, zip/unzip, unrar, process explorer, ffmpeg, gpu-z, wget, smartpar, robocopy,  and a couple of other things I've found useful over the years and which don't need to be "installed" to be used.

  14.

She played up the sweet den-mother thing from start to finish. Notice how she made herself look so awkward taking her rifle off and putting it in the pile, like she was uncomfortable even handling a firearm.

I did not. I'll have to watch that bit again.

It might have been one of the people that got exiled from that community.

Yeah, that whole "exiled them which is good as killing them" had flags popping up here. Exiling just means they come back later.
