It is possible if the trigger screw is out far enough that the bow could put enough pressure on the sear spring when the trigger is pinned to cause hammer follow. This is not a hard rule however, it would depend on the hammer sear combo and their geometry and the trigger that is being used. What he described and the fact that the previous owner talked about the over travel screw would lead me to believe that the screw is the problem. That would be the first thing I would eliminate as a problem in any case.

If the trigger over travel screw has worked its way out it will hammer follow. So if you need to pull the hammer back after a shot then that is what has happened. Adjusting the screw is no big deal.

Can you imagine what a hunk of junk they would make if that was even possible. Most of the lib states are in such bad shape finically and will continue to be, that I find it highly unlikely that they would do go into the gun business. And unless they sold to other states (you and me) they couldn't afford to do it anyway. None of us would buy them and their price point would be huge when you consider the low number of units to be sold to their state government agencies and the cost of tooling up for such a huge job. It would be a giant negative return for the state pushing them farther down the road to bankruptcy. This is all fantasy anyway, but I would take that bet, and still be happy if they started to build guns for their state. They could never compete with the free market and the cost would be a constant thorn in their side. Love it.

I really wish the firearms industry would band together and refuse to do business with states that have laws like this. Whatever you allow your citizens to purchase are the only arms to be sold to police or any state/city government agency.

Yep, we had an awesome day!!! It was a little cold but the dog and birds were both flyin'. Here are a couple pics. The first one is me and my son Christian and the second is my friend Jeff and my son again.

Goin' for more birds tomorrow. It's gonna be cold.

I love my D-terminator (Dillon).

Blue might work just fine. But the slide takes all the beating and I have had no trouble breaking the red free when I needed to do so. FWIW.

Red loctite. The red is really strong.

I think we need to find out what James Bond uses in his Walther PPK. It seems to work really well for bad guys. They go down like a ton of bricks. Just imagine what the new "magic bullets" can do for him now. That Walther can probably take an arm off. And heck his Beretta 418 in the early years was a 25acp and it blew guys away.

I'm just wondering why so many think the Remington ammo is out of spec? I think it is more likely to be an extractor issue. If they were reloads and had been reloaded a bunch, and the rims were chewed up I could see this. Or Remington ran a bunch that needed recalled then okay. While it is true that every manufacture might have tiny differences, they all should meet spec and your gun should run them. In my experience, if your gun is not wanting to extract new reputable (in spec) ammo of one brand or another, and runs others fine, it is running on the edge of reliability. If this happens again, at the very least I would want to measure the cases to see if there is a problem. If they meet spec I would not allow my gun to turn up its nose at them. Just something to think about. It could have been a one time strange anomaly.

For my top I used 2 pieces of 3/4in plywood glued and screwed together. It's very solid.

Went yesterday. Awesome day. Dog did great. My son who is ten years old, shot two with his 20ga. I was very proud.

So, I'm confused given the advice thus far. Did the spent case stay in the chamber and did the gun try to feed a new round in to the chamber with the spent casing in there?
-
Mine was done a good while ago. I imagine the pistols that this related to have mostly been updated. All that was done/added to the gun was a little button plunger under the thumb safety to give it more resistance between the on and off position. No big deal at all.
-
Great News!!! I don't know how many rounds you have put through the gun, but I won't think at all about failures until after 2-3 hundred rounds. Happy it is a hungry gun now.

yep, both great guns.

Leroy, I'm sorry you thought that I started a spitting match. That was not my intent. This thread was about the efficiency of 380hp vs 380fmj. And no one including myself is saying that either can't kill someone. I think like Todd that the most important thing with a pistol is penetration, then permanent wound channel, then temporary wound channel. Pretty common really. I asked a friend once when he was carrying a kel-tec 380 why he carried such a small caliber/gun. He responded with "if you think it is small why don't you stand over there and let me shoot you with it". And I said, I don't want to be hit in the head with a football either but I'm not going to carry one to stop a threat. And we both laughed. No one wants to be shot by anything (wrist rocket included). And you can justify carrying small guns a bunch of ways. I carry my 380 when going for milk down the street cause I know I'll not strap my carry gun on for such a short trip and putting that little thing in my pocket is better than having nothing. But to justify a position by saying, "look no one wants to be shot by this round, therefore it must be a good man stopper". That's goofy to me. One has nothing to do with the other. That is all I was saying. I surely didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. Mine are and were not ruffled. Back to the topic. 380 FMJ mainly.
-
So are you saying I need to be shot in order to have an opinion? I hope not. I don't care what people carry. Carry what you want and makes you happy. A 22 derringer is better than nothing. I carry a 380 some too. I even have hollow points. All I was trying to say is that particular analogy is goofy. I don't want you to throw a football at my face as hard as you can but that doesn't mean that I'm going to carry a football around for self defense. And "in the right hands" a pencil can be very lethal, but again I would feel a little under gunned with a pencil. And I don't know how quickly a pencil will halt a threat either. That's all I'm sayin'

You can have that. If you need the extra rounds. STI, PARA, SV, all make double stack 1911s.
-
Yep, that is a standard reply. But heck, I don't want to get shot with a 22 short either or for that matter a pellet gun....................what does this prove. Nada.

The danger with a long reset in a high stress (when you are trying to eliminate a threat as fast as possible) you can end up short stroking the trigger and not letting it go out far enough to re-set (I've seen this a ton of times when people are amped up and trying to go fast). This is why for many a heavy trigger is helpful because the amount of force pushing on your finger to reset the trigger is increased. But it is still better to have a short re-set and a heavier trigger. IMO
