  1. Mauser:__________ Had some of these same problems with my 650 that i bought used. I wound up taking the primer assemblies and the powder measure apart and completely cleaning them up. Remove every last speck of surface rust and powder and primer residue from everything. I cleaned it all up with crocus cloth and denatured alcohol. I replaced every spring in the primer system and put a new spring on the powder return for the powder measure. Make sure you adjust the vertical rod from the powder measure to where it is snug against the spring so the powder measure will stroke correctly when the machine cycles. I completely cleaned and replaced every consumable part (springs and index lever) in the primer assembly. I also keep the primer magazine pretty full and add a length of the appropriate diameter wire (i bet a piece of heavy duty coathanger wire would work; i used some spare 1/16 welding wire) to add weight to the primer stack in the primer magazine. I always keep a sharp eye on the primer stack and make sure the magazine stays at least 1/3 to 1/2 full at all times. The other (and i believe, most likely) source of problems with primers (for me, at least) is the adjustment of the shell plate to the top of the ram on the 650. I replaced all the springs and ball detents under the shell plate and still had problems. The most important thing is to make sure that the main lock screw (the one that holds the shell plate on ) is adjusted so it will just index without being too tight. Make sure it is just snug enough to operate correctly; but not too loose. If they are too loose, they tend to wiggle and make the primers flip in the primer wheel. That was the main cause of the problems with primers for me, anyway. Dont give up on the dillon, it is a great machine. But like all machines, it has its individual quirks. Call the dillon guys; they are very helpful. All the instructions for machine set up are on the net at dillonprecision.com. By the way, all the springs and do-dads for rebuilding the indexing parts come as a kit for the machine. look at the dillon partslist or talk to the tech guys and they can get the parts to you quick. They are very thorough and efficient in sending stuff you need. By the way, the best way ive found to change the calibers on the dillon is to buy a bunch of the toolheads and set a separate set of dies up for a particular bullet. That saves all the adjusting of dies and bad words when you want to change calibers. I also add a powder die to each caliber set. The only thing i change on a toolhead is the powder check die (i use a hornady). All you have to do is to change the powder measure out, adjust it, and you are ready to go. I always use a single stage press to work up new loads and get the experimentation done. Then i set up the dillon for the "production loading". If you try it usind the dillon, it will drive you to distraction and cause you to use bad language the majority of the time!! Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy
  2. Good advice!! A 20 ga A 5 is a pretty valuable commodity!! Most are 12 ga. Kind regrds, Leroy
  3. What a truth!! Well said. Keep up the good work!1 Kind regards, Leroy
  4. Shima:_________ I am a bit rotund, about 5'8" and 300 lb. I tend to wear pleated khakis and side pocket hiking pants (like Cabela's sells) for "sunday go to meeting only"; carhartt dungarees the rest of the time. That being said; if you have a good belt (I use a Wilderness Tactical nylon); a big (around) guy can carry the baby glock (with a holster) in the front pocket no problem. I suspect that even a smaller guy can carry in the front pocket if the pants are a bit roomy. I grew up with a guy who weighed about 150 lb and ran a general store. He carried a 2 inch model 10 smith in the front pocket of his old khaki work pants all the time. There is no doubt that the best place to carry the glock isin the hip pocket with an Aholster pocket holster (for me, anyhow). Kind regards, Leroy
  5. Major:__________ You may be able to take one out of your other RCBS decapping/sizing dies. You may want to give Ensley Shooting Supply a call in Louisville, TN (link here: Ensley's Shooting Supply, Louisville, TN, 37777 - YELLOWPAGES.COM). He is a good guy. If that doesnt work; the best bet is to probably order from Midway. They are usually no more that 3 days to knoxville. Hope this helps. Leroy
  6. Congrats. They are a great thing. I EDC it's brother in the hip pocket of my dungarees or the front pocket of my khakis. A glock 33 in an Allen Miller pocket holster. Check here: Welcome to Aholster Kind regards, Leroy

    Revolver Jam

Straightshooter:_________ I have seen this happen mostly with reloads on smiths big and small. The cylinder will lock up due to the tight tolerances between the ejector rod and crane. It happens with too light a bullet crimp and a flake type powder like Unique (for me, anyway). The unburned powder can get under the extractor star and lock the revolver up. Take a look and see if you can see any unburned powder residue around (or under) the extractor star. Hope this heips. Kind regards, Leroy
  8. This is a great answer. Trust is earned through trustworthy and honest actions. Be polite, watch closely, make your decision. Keep up the good work and remember the little limrick i learned from an old boss of mine (he is one of the smartest and most cynical men i ever knew): "On the whole, the human race is disgraceful (or some other more colorful expletive laden description), but i'm pleasently suprized by individual performances..." Kind regards, LEROY
  9. Friends, this is a great truth and worthy of thinking about. The Supreme Court just upheld EVERYONE'S right to free speech and private property with this one. Who is John McCain or any other polititian with an agenda to tell me, you, or a corporation how to spend their money or what they can say. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU EARN AND HOW YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND IT --- THAT IS THE BASIS OF PRIVATE PROPERTY EVERYWHERE! ---- Not some stinkin polititian or bureaucrat with an agenda. The Supreme Court got this one right. Remember this, if a polititian can pass a law to push a corporation (that you may not personally like) around and limit their freedoms; he can do you the same way. Sorry to be preachy; but the Supreme Court is right. So is saintsfanbrian's great post!! Thanks for telling the truth!! Kind regards, LEROY
  10. Dear folks:_______________ The fact is that both the Glock and the HK are great things. Shot one HK; a full size 45 ACP...Great big, shoots straight, deadly as a drug store. That being said, i carry a Glock 33. Little bitty, ugly, easy to operate, shoots straight, deadly as a drug store. They are both great things. Buy the one you like. Kind regards, LEROY
  11. Titan:__________ Got the same problem. Here is what i'm thinking. I have the 90 grain hornady slugs, WW231 (which we use lots of), primers; just no brass: 90 GR. HDY JHP Winchester 231 .355" .955" 3.2 grains 917 13,900 CUP -------- 3.5 grains 957 15,400 CUP For jacketed solids; i intend to try this: 95 GR. SPR FMJ Hodgdon Titegroup .355" .970" 2.7 grains 796 10,600 CUP ------3.2 grains 953 15,600 CUP Aint got the bullets and brass for this one yet. Here's where it came from: Cartridge Loads - Hodgdon Reloading Data Center - data.hodgdon.com Kind regards, LEROY
  12. Amen brother!!! Well said!! The Republicans better join up; or they will have to morph into Demorats. Looks like folks are waking up. Keep up the good work. LEROY
  13. Great truth here!! Glock is the king of reliability. Not much difference in price. Food for thought. Kind regards, LEROY
  14. Dear OWE:_________ I would recommend buying exactly the 28 that you want. They are essentially a 410 with better lines and a little more umph ( 3/4 oz shot for the 28 vs 1/2 oz for the 410 target loads). They are usually on a small frame, are quick handling, and are great to hunt with. Recoil is negligable. I have a field grade citori with a 24 inch barrel. As i remember; it weighs about 5.5 to 6 lbs. It is a great little gun. Depending on how much you shoot; you may want to order skeet loads from someone like Gamaliel Shooters supply (here Winchester - Shotgun-Target Loads - Ammunition - Gamaliel Shooting Supply). They are great folks to deal with, and they sell reloading supplies too!! Hope this helps. Kind regards, LEROY
  15. Amen brother!!! Well said!! Keep up the good work. The truth is a valuable commodity! Kind regards, LEROY
  16. David:___________ I'm not sure that the saying is not older than Churchill. I want to say it may go back to the Greeks or Romans; but i'm not sure. For what it's worth, Tennessee was spared a lot of problems from Reconstruction that were placed on other confederate states principally due to having 'Parson" Brownlow (an east tennessee unionist) as governor right after the civil war. Lots of the Reconstruction recriminations (and internal hostilities) were kept in check because a Tennesseean was in office, instead of an outside military governor. President Andrew Johnson was impeached about this time for wanting to ease these recriminations in the old confederate states also. Johnson was from Greenville, TN (again, East Tennessee). East Tennessee was by and large a union sympathing section of the state (still republican, by the way). Middle and West tennessee were firmly confederate (sill democrat (but changing)). Make no mistatake, the current attack on N. B. Forrest is the culmination of a 145 year campaign by political activists that started with the Radical Republicans. The cause was later taken up by the NAACP, People for the American Way, and the other usual suspects. I believe you are right in opining that they believe they are the "wnners" seeking final victory after these 145 years. That is who Oboma and his bunch are. They just flipped sides from Republican to Demorat. Kind regards. LEROY PS: Check this quote out:
  17. Thanks for posting this for us Mike. There is, however, something to remember about Mayor Haslam's chief of police, Sterling Owen. He was in the famous photo op standing beside Gov. Bredesen showing his support of the veto of the original "guns in restraurants" bill, along with the usual bunch of big city chiefs of police who opposed the legislation. He was nodding approvingly when Bredesen made the foolish remarks about "I support the second amendment"; BUT "guns and alcohol dont mix.". I'm not afraid of what Haslam believes about the Second Amendment. I am afraid of the company he has decided to keep. Sterling Owen could easily hold a high level cabinet post in a Haslam gubanatorial administration. We do not need people like Sterling Owen in Tennessee State Government. He is no friend to the Second Amendment. Food for thought. LEROY
  18. Rob:__________ The" gun purse" for the misses aint a bad idea!! I like the beltmans stuff too. Take a look at this belt too ----from Wilderness Tactical. I have a couple of them (5 stitch) 1 3/4 that i use with my dungarees every day. They are great. A little bit less costly alternative to a good leather belt. Wilderness Tactical 5-Stitch Instructor Belt 1-3/4" Nylon - MidwayUSA Their direct website address is: www.thewilderness.com/ they deliver fast if midway doesnt have them. Hope this helps. Kind regards, LEROY
  19. Lin:__________ Just spank him if ya see him. Or, better yet, have your wife do it in public while you hold him -- HEHEHE. I will be glad to help with any needed bail dollars if ya need em. He appears to be the typical in your face jackass that our current culture is producing. I think he is nuts to think that he can intimidate anyone in the Republican political scene east of the Tennessee River; much less all the way to the Tri-Cities. There ain't hardly enough Demorats to have an election in upper East Tennessee. He'll most likely fade into obscurity -- a place worse than hell for the politically motivated. Tell your wife that she is in great company. There are some people you dont want to like you. Remember Winston Churchill's great quip: "...you are known just as well by your detractors as you are by your admirers. .."There are simply some people that you don't want to like you. Keep up the good fight. Kind regards. LEROY
  20. Good post. Me too. Glock 33 in an allen miller pocket kydex holster. Kind regards, LEROY
  21. HEHEHEHE!!! LEROY
  22. A great ballgame my any unit of measure. Congratulations Alabama!!! Kind regards, LEROY
  23. Mark's quote is a great truth!! This action is typical of the enforced "politically correct" view of history that many slavisly adhere to. I would expect this out of Bredesen. The shame is that the legislature seems to be content to let it happen. Nathan Bedford Forrest was one of the greatest generals of the civil war. He is a great american. Many would do well to take the time to study the man, his beliefs, and his accomplishments. When he decided that the southern cause was lost; he simply disbanded his forces and sent them home to rebuild their homes. He was never captured or defeated; he simply quit and went home. I am not sure he ever officially took the "official" oath to the Union required by the Reconstruction crowd. He single handedly kept Tennessee from being ravaged by a Military Governor (Tennesse was the only confederate state that did not have a military governor) and kept the rabid unionist governor "Parson" Brownlow from implementing many of the more heinous of the post -reconstruction policies by his simple words of warning: " ... If Brownlow imposes a tenth of the legislative policies he has proposed to punish the people of the State of Tennessee, I will go to Nashville and shoot him personally. .." Brownlow took Forrest's pronouncements at face value. Many of those policies were not implemented. He was the only confederate general that W.T. Sherman really feared. One of Sherman's greatest quotes was: "... Is Forrest really dead?!!..." as Sherman's aides routinely reported (It seems he wasn't). It was the opinion of many military lecturers and authors in Europe that N. B. Forrest was the greatest tactician to come out of the civil war. That was not the case in america (Remember, the winners always write the "official" history of war). Nathan Bedford Forrest was tried in the Reconstruction Federal Courts at the behest of several prominent northern state Radical Republicans for alleged war crimes and found innocent. That has not prevented a long line of history revisionists, the "politically correct" police (Like the Southern Policy Leadership Council, NAACP, People for the American Way, etc.), and this current crop of foolish "dont offend anyone" crowd of sickening politicos from malignigning this man's character, reputation, and greatness to the point that, to many, he has become not a hero; but a scourge for the people of Tennessee to be ashamed of -- nothing could be further from the truth. This smear campaign started in 1865 and has continued to this day; over 145 years. Quite a campaign. Nathan Bedford Forrest was, and still remains, one of the greatest sons of the State of Tennessee, a great leader, and a genuine hero. It is to the shame of the state and this current crop of sickening bureaucrats and polititions who worship the god of "political correctness" that this can be done. This action is nothing more than revisiting the old Radical Republican Reconstruction Civil War policies on this state. Most folks just dont understand it as such; they foolishly believe that it is tolerance for the views of a minority. This action lessens the character and traditions of the State of Tennesse. Remember, as Mark has so succently pointed out, they used to do a lot of that kind of stuff in Russia during Stalin and Kruschev's time. You know, they COULD HAVE put the bust of Samson Keeble next to the one of Forrest; they simply chose not to. By the way... for those of you who didn't know.. N. B. Forrest resigned from the KKK and advised others to do likewise. Betcha didn't read that in your kids current college history book. Thats how i see things. LEROY
  24. Temp:__________ Here is a story for ya that might shed some light on this little incident: In the mid- 1970's i worked for the TVA; who started (didn't finish) building a four unit nuclear plant near Hartsville. Several of my friends (...all East Tennessee boys; real "Sons of the Hillsides"; complete with manners, dress, and hillside accent appropriate for "real" sons of Tennessee...) went to hartsville to work and wanted to buy property. They wanted some acreage and thought that the local Farmer's CO-OP (used to be right down town) and nearby general stores where the old timers visited would be a good place to start their hunt. They went down to an old general store near hartsville one winter saturday morning to visit and talk to the old guys there. They gradually joined into the convesation and finally asked the "big" question. One of the old farmers there replied to them: "...Son, you dont BUY land in Trousdale County; you INHERIT it. ..." I suspect that that the clerk is a grandson of the old timers in Trousdale county. Sadly, times may be a little bit tougher there now; and the old timers have died off. You MAY be able to buy land there now. Good luck!! I doubt that there is a "no shooting" ordinance in Trousdale County. Too many guns!! Used to be lots of great bird hunting down there; along with a lot of great old bird hunters. By the way; there are still a few great old men alive there. I know one or two of them!! It would be a great place to live or own property!! So, dont judge them too harshly or distain their ways. The natives are a great people. They may just be remembering the old days!! Kind regards. LEROY PS: The guys in the story bought property in a SUBDIVISION near Gallatin.
  25. I'm a 10MM fan myself. I am interested in what ya are going to shoot that stuff out of. Kind reards. LEROY
