molon, Weren't you considering going to an IDPA match soon? If so, take note of who is doing tap-rack-bang drills in the middle of a stage. Listen to the 1911 guys talking to each other about the latest trick or mod or new magazine they are trying. 1911s are sweet guns if they are running right, but getting them running right is not as easy as many believe. Some are fine out of the box, many are not, though. A lot of guys who simply poke holes in paper think they are fine, only to be suprised when they run their guns hard in an IDPA or USPSA setting--all the fleas tend to show up (I think Rabbi recently made a similar observation). A lot of 1911 owners are the most loyal of all--they cuss their guns in the middle of a stage, but rant about them when not shooting, so you have to take some of their opinions with a grain of salt. Unlike a Glock, an alloy frame 4" .45 1911 is about as close to "perfection" as one can get for a carry gun (IMO), but good luck finding one that runs, stays together, and doesn't require a paper clip to take it apart or a new recoil spring every 1500 rounds. They just weren't worth the trouble for me. If I wanted a .45 that did not have to be uber-small, I would first look at the SIG 220. Single action or DA or DAO or whatever, SIGS are awesome.

In my worthless opinion as a former owner of four SIGS, if you want a traditional double action with a hammer and a decocker, SIG is the finest gun available. Had a 229/.40, and it was sweet.

New Glocks around here have been steady at around $500. As for used Glocks (non G34/35), they usually go for around $400 with plain sights.

As a Glock owner, I agree with you 100%. Too many Glock owners (as well as others) need to stick with the dummy-proof guns with 15 pound DA triggers and manual safeties.

Nope--I blame the dummy who pulled the trigger before he got his XD out of his holster. I don't care for Serpa holsters, but, ultimately, the shooter was to blame that day. He would agree, too.

I have seen five reports of bigfoot just this month. 3. Glocks don't go off simply by being "bumped." They fire when something or someone pulls the trigger. I have never claimed that my Glocks represent "perfection," but they are the best guns I have found for my needs.

ND-negligent discharge (the user's fault) AD-accidental discharge (considered a mechanical defect/malfunction) AD is often used when ND would be more appropriate. For instance, a gun discharging in a holster may be considered the gun's fault by some, but I would blame the user.

9 or 40? Magazine disconnect or no? A friend recently got one, and I love that little gun. He'll put new sights on it soon, but otherwise, he's thrilled with it.

1. Hmmm...Glocks vastly outnumber XDs, and HPs are few and far between in the U.S. 2. Exactly how many "kabooms" have you seen? 3. ND = AD. They mean the same thing to me. How can the gun be at fault? Was it a careless or poorly trained gun? For the record, I have never heard of a "Glock nation" and I don't like Kool-Aid. I simply shoot what works for me and I don't give unwanted advice.

One night at Rangemaster, a guy had three shots all about 1" apart along the top of a bad guy's head (all misses). Someone made the comment that this thug had cornrows.

The only ND I have ever witnessed happened with an XD. Does this mean the XD is flawed or dangerous? Absolutely not. The nut behind the butt is the most important safety.

I'm not a big fan of all the doom and gloom surrounding Glock's supposedly unsupported chamber, but just for S&G, I disassembled a friend's new FN, dropped a round in it, and the chamber looked just like my Glock 27's chamber. I guess we will soon hear about FNs going off like a stick of dynamite. Although I don't care for traditional double actions with hammers, I liked the overall feel of the gun. If you are even considering IDPA, I would stick with a 9mm simply due to ammo co$t. The difference is recoil between two otherwise identical guns (a Glock 19 vs 23, for instance) is minimal.

My wife scraped this no-shoot not once, but twice at the Tri-State Regional. It was a no-shoot on a maxtrap (falls forward, then bounces back up) in front of a bad guy. She pulled off a one-in-a-million shot (or perhaps, two-in-a-million). I hope she doesn't try this again if I'm the hostage.

Well, Shelby County is a great area to judge by, and I've seen all of four black shooters in the year or so I've been shooting IDPA. If anybody needs the practice and experience, it's them. They often seem to be the victims of violent crime around here. I see them a little more at the local indoor ranges punching holes, but not as much as one would think. It just doesn't add up.

Stays put pretty well. I have two sections of velcro (about 2" each) centered where the holster's velcro lines up. I was a bit leary about the velcro at first--was planning on getting j-clips, but the Comp-Tac lady talked me out of them (said they sucked/pants are holding the holster, not the belt). Holster does not move at all, but may become an issue as velcro wears (although this should be quite a while).

Hmmm...I have a CTAC and it's comfortable to wear all day. It's great to wear under an untucked polo (if the holster is going to ride directly against your skin), but I seem to sometimes grab a little t-shirt/undershirt when drawing IF said t-shirt/undershirt is tucked in. In other words, as long as everything is untucked, this holster works great for me. If not, I sometimes fumble the draw by grabbing some undershirt. I think the MTAC w/ the leather flap would solve this problem, but I've read several times that the flap can get uncomfortable, especially in hot weather.

I recently picked up a Comp-Tac CTAC iwb holster, and use the velcro clips. Thus far, it has proven quite satisfactory.

Another mindless Gaston worshiper. Flush out your headgear--Glocks are the only guns that blow up.
