  1. And I'm sure that after the last 4 years we all believe everything the mainstream media and FBI tell us ? Russia collusion was real too..... right? I stand by what I said based on first hand report from someone who was there. The Capital police let the peaceful protesters up onto the mezzanine and were talking and joking with them. Then a small group of "obviously not peaceful" protesters arrived and that is who breached the building. The heretofore peaceful protesters followed them into the building .
  2. It takes only a tiny bit of forethought to realize that these are a TRAP and a perfect place/opprtunity for an Antifa false flag operation to take place. The protesters at the capital essentially got "rolled" by Antifa . That was who actually breached the building according to accounts from people I know that were there. All the conservative folks who go to work everyday and basically keep America humming along were completely played by people who protest and organize for a living. Once the building was breeched and the "regular guy " type protesters followed the armored and helmeted pipe and shield carrying Antifa agitators into the capitol building the stage was set for the "insurrection photo op". We have a very myopic view of things and think all the Antifa types are losers that still live with mom and dad but they are very well funded and very well trained in making political theater happen . So anyone who plans to go armed to a state capital to protest is most likely wading into a waist deep pool full of alligators. A state capital full of armed Trump supporters is a tempting target for Antifa to shoot up the place and blame it on the protesters.... If you think it can't happen then you have not been paying attention....
  3. Forcible entry into the vehicle to assault the occupant is generally going to be viewed as something you can use lethal force to repel. We can argue that since dude was not visibly armed that pulling a gun on him was not warranted but we can also make an argument that a reasonable person would be in fear of grave bodily injury or death from someone who took those same actions and assaulted him in his vehicle. The totality of the circumstances plays in favor of MarkS. But again, the assault might not happen if there was no bird flipping.
  4. I'll second (or third?) the thought that flipping someone off is never going to de-escalate a situation. What exactly were you trying to accomplish by flipping them off? No one in the history of mankind has been calmed down or had their poor behavior corrected by someone flipping them off. But it has led to a lot of fights. And just because YOU (and most normal people ) might not be willing to cripple or kill someone over an insult there are "feral people " out there that absolutely are. Jail is full of people who do not "act like normal people" who have killed people over seemingly minor insults. Personally I'm a big proponent of living by the advice found in Romans 12:18 . If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. When my wife and I first started dating (20 years ago) she asked me why I seemed to never get really upset when people did dumb stuff while driving . I told her I generally stay pretty calm because ... 1. Getting angry about stupid stuff solves nothing 2. I'm "secure enough in my manhood" to not feel the need to prove anything 3. Because I have the ability and skill to kill pretty much anyone I come in contact with I prefer to avoid those situations where I might be forced to do that if at all possible. 4. I'd rather not instigate a fight with my significant other as a bystander or an accidental participant in a fight between armed people. As far as your reaction once the fight was on? From what you describe I don't have any major complaints. Having to fight while seated in the car sucks but we deal with what we are dealt. I've done it so I know what I'm talking about. In fact my particular situation is actually somewhat similar to this even if it started differently. We can argue that striking dude with the pistol can lead to it getting grabbed but I have done the same thing for real and the dude was so surprised that he just got muzzle punched that he just backed up. As to not shooting him? That's a personal choice. If you felt that you didn't NEED to shoot him that second then you probably didn't NEED to shoot him that second. There is a big difference between making the conscious decision NOT to shoot because of how he reacted and being too paralyzed with fear to shoot . Sounds like you made a conscious decision to not shoot. You are the only one who was there to make the decision and the decision seems to have been right. As they say "All's well that ends well".
  5. Yeah I didn't really think I needed to qualify that but maybe so.... If you put a 16" upper on your SBR lower then you can take it out of state with no 5320.20 form. But you cannot also take the SBR upper along with you too. That would be what they refer to as "constructive possession" - assuming that because you have the sbr upper you are going to assemble the rifle with it. Now there are some murky legal waters in regards to that and Thompson Center won a case against ATF on that but the smart thing to do if travelling outside the state is to either file a 5320.20 form or put a 16" upper on it and leave the SBR upper at home.

  16. Didn't get to take many pics in class but here is one from Sunday ...... A little drill we call "Shoot the baby" That is a 1/3 sized IDPA steel in front of a full size IDPA cardboard. Hit the steel ...NOT the cardboard .
  17. I'm not an attorney but I've been an NFA collector since 1994. An SBR by definition has barrel shorter than 16". If your receiver no longer has a shorter than 16" barrel on it then by definition it is not an SBR and is treated as a rifle not as a "short barrel rifle" as long as the longer barrel is on it. So if you wanted to take your "SBR registered" AR lower with a sub 16" barrel out of state you have to file an ATF Form 5320.20 . But if you take off the sub 16" barrel upper and install a 16" barrel upper it no longer is by definition an SBR and no Form 5320.20 is necessary. It is still listed in the registry as an SBR but the actual configuration is NOT an SBR so SBR rules do not apply as long as it does not have a barrel shorter than 16" on it. It is not the same as a machinegun where if it was "once a machine gun always a machine gun". So while you cannot do anything to a machine gun to change its status (other than destroy it) you can install a barrel longer than 16" on your SBR lower and it no longer meets the definition so travel without filing a form is OK. At least that is how I understand it.
  18. Just wanted to proudly announce that AJ Holst is one of the newest Rangemaster Certified Instructors. AJ took the class in Nashville this past weekend and passed with flying colors. This is no small feat and a Rangemaster Instructor certificate actually means something due to the level of difficulty. It is not just a participation trophy. So a hearty congratulations to AJ !
  19. Coming up THIS WEEKEND !!!

  21. Coming up in 2 weeks.......
  22. No one is saying it is DEPENDANT on training or ever was DEPENDANT on training . I am saying when the document was written it was written not with gun collecting and recreational shooting and hunting in mind it was written to reinforce to the government that the right of the people to own military arms to be used to prevent insurrection, despotism and invasion because the best way to insure freedom was to have an armed and trained ("well regulated") populace not under direct control of a central government. And in the 150 years prior to the revolution the colonies were so small population wise that out of necessity pretty much EVERY able bodied male had compulsory militia duty. Philadelphia was the largest city in North America in 1760 and it ONLY had about 19,000 people. That is the size of Tullahoma TN now...... The Indian populations OUTNUMBERED the Europeans by a LARGE margin and because of that people got trained for militia duty whether they liked it or not. THAT was the reality of life leading up to the Revolution. That was the world the framers of our Constitution grew up in. It was not written as a right being dependent on training but in those days all able bodied males received some form of militia training. If you don't like it that the Constitution of the state of Tennessee allows the legislature "to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime" then talk to your legislators and get a constitutional convention started to remove that from the Constitution . But as it stands that is the law of the land no matter how much we might want it to not be. So we can either pine for a time that really never existed the way people think it did or we can learn to function in the reality of now ...or you can start a revolution.
  23. No one in their right mind thinks training prevents ALL accidents (or prevents all negligence). Just like sex Education , or Health Education or whatever they are calling it now does not prevent all pregnancy nor does police training prevent all mistaken ID shootings nor does all military training prevent death in combat. So I guess by that logic we stop training drivers, stop training police , stop training the military and stop telling kids where babies come from because people still wreck their cars?????
