  1. Rubber bands also work. Take the thicker ones like the post office uses and cut it so that you have a piece maybe 2 inches long and fold it over. That will give you a length just big enough to insert into the ejection port and double the thickness of the standard rubber band. That will hold the slide just slightly out of battery so you can work the trigger multiple times on striker fired guns. Also because it is soft and malleable it will not prevent you from holstering so you can do multi shot dry fire work from the holster.
  2. ONE MONTH TO GO ON THIS ! Mark your calendars!
  3. A good test of CCW skills is the 3M Drill. Tom Givens uses this and it is actually a variation on the original "DTI Dance" from John Farnam. You will need.... IDPA target 5 yards away. Electronic timer. 9 live rounds and a dummy round. 1 spare mag. Pistol is loaded with 6 live rounds and 1 dummy round (1 live round in chamber and 5 live and 1 dummy in magazine. Dummy is not the 1st or last round in the mag.) Spare mag on belt (or however you carry it) loaded with 3 live rounds. Shooter starts holstered with hands up in front of chest . At the buzzer you will sidestep, draw and shoot until gun malfunctions. Sidestep as you clear the malfunction (tap/rack) and keep shooting until slide lock. At slide lock sidestep , emergency reload, and fire 3 rounds. The side steps are so you are not standing still in the same spot clearing or reloading while the bad guy is theoretically shooting at you. Scoring is Pass/Fail. Any round outside the -0 zone (8" circle in the chest of IDPA target) = Fail. Failure to move on the draw, on the malfunction clearance or on the reload = Fail. Failure to tap before racking the slide on the malfunction clearance = Fail The "par time" is 15 seconds for students, 12 seconds for instructors. Of course the faster the better, but those are the "official" par times. Instead of pass/fail you can also score it with the Comstock method counting hits in the -0 as 5pts, hits in the -1 as 3pts and hits in the -3 as 0pts. Also subtract a 10pt penalty for any miss . This will generate an actual score vs simply passing or failing. So you would add up your points and then divide by time and then multiply that number x 30 . So a perfect 45 points (9x5=45) shot in 12 seconds (45/12 = 3.75 x 30 ) would give a score of 112.5 . According to Tom Givens a 100 is "very good work" and a 125 or higher is "extremely high skill".
  4. Yes, this is the least gear intensive long gun class we teach. You literally can show up with a shotgun, a sling, ammo and no other gear for it. You don't need a chest rig, don't need a battle belt, don't need anything other than pockets to hold some extra shells to reload. Now if you already have a dedicated shotgun chest rig or bag you use then obviously you are welcome to use it, but it is not required.
  5. If you are wanting low light work then THIS is what you are looking for......Low Light Class Oct 22 Dayton TN
  6. This one is getting closer and closer! Everyone owns a shotgun, but how many have actually learned to efficiently and effectively use it for defense? How many shotgun myths do you believe? "You just have to rack it and they'll run off" or "you don't really have to aim just point it and pull the trigger" or "Birdshot is just as good as buckshot".....you will see why all of these cliches are just simply wrong. We cover everything from loading, unloading and clearing malfunctions to transitioning to handgun to shooting on the move to transitioning to slugs for distant targets and a whole lot more. Just owning a shotgun does not make you any more prepared to use it than owning a guitar makes you a skilled musician. Come on out and get the skills to run the shotgun under stress and defend your self, your home or your business with the most powerful weapon available to civilians!

  13. That was my point.....people are ERRONEOUSLY reporting that the ORIGINAL bill got passed......
  14. Apparently it is not clear what actually got passed....here is what some are reporting......http://www.thefederalistpapers.org/us/want-a-gun-free-zone-tennessee-says-thats-on-you-literally In one of the most awesome pro-gun laws to come down the pike, Tennessee is blaming business owners if they disarm citizens with “gun-free zones.” If those citizens get injured because they were stripped of their Second Amendment rights, the new law – which goes into effect Friday – allows gun owners to sue the person who set up the “gun free zone.” Bearing Arms puts it in layman’s terms: Any permit holder injured as a result of being stripped of their right to self-defense, and their handgun, in a posted gun-free zone can file a lawsuit within two years of the event as long as they meet the following requirements: were authorized to carry a gun at the time of the incident prohibited from carrying a firearm because of a gun-free sign the property owner was not required to be posted by state or federal law and posted by choice So if a grocery store in Tennessee banned guns on its property and a robber, or a bear, or a rabid mongoose barged in and killed or injured someone who has a carry permit but were prohibited from carrying his or her gun, they could sue the grocery store owner for damages. “It is the intent of this section to balance the right of a handgun carry permit holder to carry a firearm in order to exercise the right of self-defense and the ability of a property owner or entity in charge of the property to exercise control over governmental or private property,” the bill states. The legislation places responsibility on the business or property owner of the gun-free area to protect the gun owner from any incidents that occur with any “invitees,” trespassers and employees found on the property, as well as vicious and wild animals and “defensible man-made and natural hazards.” This is a great idea and other states should adopt a similar law. If you’re going to disarm Americans, then you bear responsibility for what happens to them. Awesome.
  15. This one is coming up in just about a month!
  16. RIP to a true state treasure.

    Ok Sig

We have a winner....The issues seem to be centered around SIG USA guns.
  18. Right at 2 weeks to go on this one! Still time to get signed up!
  19. We have 13 spots left as of today.
  20. Right. You absolutely can buy a gun and give it to someone (Christmas present, etc) as long as the recipient is not prohibited from being able to own the gun. This guy did not get turned down for being a journalist....he got turned down for for being a known douche bag wife beater with an alcohol problem.
  21. The answer I put on why I didn't think there would be any meaningful legislation passed this year..... There is not time left in the year for Congress to fashion a bill that would protect both civil liberties and do anything useful to address the real problem. Simply banning certain types of guns is not a panacea and would have little effect on crime.....we did that in the 90s and it had little effect.... So now many - even Democrats- view that with a skeptical eye and feel that banning guns at a time when we are under attack by terrorists is a foolish feel good measure that will have no effect on safety.
  22. Since most non military "social purposes" fights in the US are LESS than 25 yards, the accuracy is more than you'll ever need (even a 4" at 100 yd gun is a 1" at 25 yard gun), the mag holds more than you'd likely ever shoot (most civilian use of rifle goes less than 4 rounds) , the sights are simple and are a notch and post like your pistol , the 7.62x39 HP, SP and plastic tipped hunting bullets (like CorBon,Winchester, Hornady, Federal, etc) are all accurate and perform well on people sized game, and the AK will still run when it is filthy if you are not very fastidious about cleaning your gun and an $89 ultimak allows you to mount an aimpoint micro without changing the balance of the gun if you feel the need for an optic.
