  1. For those who have been waiting for a FOF class in the southeast, here it is. June 4 -5 I'll be offering FOF Gunfighting in Chickamauga Ga, just south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. June 4-5, 2011 FORCE ON FORCE GUNFIGHTING Chickamauga, GA Instructor: Randy Harris Price:$400 SPECIAL PRICE $350!!! Ever wonder what you'd do if a psycho with a knife charged at you? Or how you'd really handle a multiple adversary situation? FIND OUT FOR CERTAIN IN OUR INTERACTIVEGUNFIGHTING TRAINING!! Force on Force is the future of personal combat training. This course is Pure CQB Gunfighting Skills, and will connect what you do on the range with what you must do on the street to win a fight. Typical marksmanship-based gun training leaves many questions unanswered. There is a great deal that you still don't know about street combat if all you've done is shoot paper targets on a shooting range. Even the many "shoothouse" exercises at many gun schools are still woefully inadequate in preparing you for a street confrontation. But in this class, the training is pure street reality featuring high intensity, short duration combat at close range against live human beings with modern force on force technology. It is specifically designed for the private citizen and focuses on civilian street situations. Learn to defend against a single adversary bent on cutting you with a training knife, as well as against multiple adversaries suddenly drawing guns and firing at you. Learn what it takes to overcome home invaders, takeover robbers, hostage takers and active shooters! In today's environment, everyone has a need to know. The training is open to ALL civilian students AT ANY SKILL LEVEL, and is the sort of class you can attend over and over again to maintain your edge!! Fight-focused NOT Gun-focused! 2. Two weeks to go and we still have some spots available. This class is what ties the PROACTIVE and REACTIVE shooting together. You won't always have prior warning and be able to get the gun in hand before the fight starts. This class focuses on reacting to sudden unexpected assault and getting out of the way and hitting the other guy bin vital areas before he can hit you. Not a target shooting class...but that does not mean we cannot make EXCELLENT fight stopping hits while moving off the X. How? Come train with us and see.
  3. This one is just around the corner. I'm hoping to see a bunch of TGOers in the class. Hope to see you there!

  5. Just a reminder for those in the NE Alabama, NW Georgia, Se Tennessee area this class is getting closer. For those not familiar with it, Close Range Gunfighting looks at the likely problem encountered in a criminal assault. A REACTIVE response to a sudden assault at close range. No one hauls out a bullhorn and tells you from across the parking lot that they are coming to rob you. They get as close as they can before they show their hand. And while 90% of police killed in the line of duty are killed inside 7 yards 90% of that 90% happen within 3 yards. We cover in depth how to spot an assault before it happens and how to deal with unknown people who approach you on the street...you cannot just pull a gun on everyone who acts a little shady. We give you a structure to deal with these conversation distance problems. And if it turns into a fight you will be in better position to respond. If you try to stand still and outdraw someone who is already halfway through his drawstroke you are going to get shot. So we put a premium on getting out of the way of his initial attack and getting fast fight stopping hits on him . BUt not all movement is beneficial. We teach you WHERE to move to make it less likely for him to hit you. At this distance though,we do not have much time to get hits on him so we use what I refer to as Alternative Indexing Methods to make hits instead of taking the time to look for a "picture perfect" sight picture. Combining the movement with the alternative indexing makes you less likely to get hit and more likely to hit them QUICKLY and stop them from being able to return fire. We also delve into contact distance shooting which does not work in the real world against uncooperative targets exactly like it does when you just shoot a paper target.Sometimes we will need to start solving the problem with our hands before we can make an opening to be able to solve it with a weapon. We cover reloads and malfunction clearance with a nondiagnostic malfunction clearance process that reduces stoppages without having to take time to figure out what kind of stoppage it is. This is somewhat important if you are in a close range pistol fight and the adversary is less than 5 yards away. We also cover shooting from cover for those instances when you saw the fight developing and were able to get to cover before it got ugly. The use of cover you see at an IPSC or IDPA match is NOT what you want to use when bullets are really comng back at you. We also cover dealing with multiple adversaries. Standing still and outdrawing them is like trying to outdraw a firing squad. We use methods that make it more difficult for them to hit you and easier for you to hit them. Just backing away and shooting like in an IDPA match just gets you shot a few steps farther back than you'd have been shot if you had just stood still. Again not all movement is beneficial. We also cover the After Action Assessment with a complete 360 degree scan after the initial engagement. If you stand there gawking at the guy you just shot you won't pick up on his accomplice until he shoots you. And standing still and just peeking over your shoulder works great on the range when you already KNOW there is no one coming up behind you...not so much on the street when there is a near50% chance that there IS someone else..... Come on out and learn some life saving skills without having to travel across the country. Also for those wanting to save some expense on site camping is available. Hope to see you there!
  6. Wow.....just...wow.. I have taken just about every class Tom offers including both the Instructor and Advanced Instructor classes. And I have been a presenter at the Rangemaster Tactical Conference. And I don't live anywhere near Memphis..... I have seen that lecture on student involved shootings both at NTI (when he first presented it ) and again in a couple of classes and training seminars. In fact I use some points from it in my own class lectures. What do you get from a DVD? For $14.95 you will get some perspective into what civilian shootings are REALLY like and it may actually help you to make your practice sessions more realistic. Not knowing WHO Tom is speaks more to the poster's lack of perspective than to Tom's " lack of noteriety".... People in the know ...know.

  8. And a little more info about the Extreme CRG class............ What is so EXTREME about Extreme Close Range Gunfighting? Suarez International Tier One Instructor -Randy Harris One of the questions I get from students is what is so "Extreme" about the Extreme Close Range Gunfighting class. Well the answer is everything. This class is not only a shooting class, but it is also a force on force class,a point shooting class, a class with an element of hand to hand, weapon retention, shooting on the move in all directions, and finishes up with a vehicle gunfighting component. Compared to regular classes it is pretty extreme. In the Close Range Gunfighting class we introduce the concept of "getting off the X" or moving out from in front of your adversary so it is much harder for him to hit you. In CRG we do the laterally to the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock directions. In ECRG we look more at the complete clock matrix and the issues that arise with body mechanics in moving to every direction on the clock. There is no ONE way to shoot. Your body only turns and bends in certain ways and we have to make concessions to that and change our shooting platform accordingly...if we expect to hit what we are aiming at. We have done an immense amount of studying how the body moves and we show you the most natural ways of blending several different shooting forms to work. Everything has a place. The key is to recognize that particular place and use that method in its appropriate place. Not to force it to work in every place. The shooting package in ECRG does just that. In ECRG we see that trying to maintain a picture perfect sight picture while rapidly getting out from in front of your adversary is not always possible. As such we delve into alternative indexing methods that make it easier for us to make fight stopping hits from less than ideal positions while we move in all directions. This is not your grandfather's stand and deliver shooting method. We can only do so much on a shooting range against inanimate targets. Unless you are just practicing to shoot unarmed deaf and blind people you need to work against a live adversary. Cardboard targets do not move or fight back. Shooting targets is like a boxer working a heavy bag. While it helps him develop powerful punches it does nothing to help his timing against a live opponent. The FOF package in ECRG gives you an opportunity to take the skills you worked in the shooting package and work that against a living , breathing, thinking opponent who moves and tries his best to stab or shoot you. Everything works when the bad guys don't move or fight back....come see what works when the bad guy starts the fight. If the bad guy does his job well then we may find ourselves in a confined space when he launches his attack. We also work on confined space shooting and getting off the X when there just really isn't much room to move. Sometimes in fights guns malfunction . We look at not only HOW to clear a malfunction without taking time to diagnose it, but WHEN to even attempt to clear the malfunction or when to transition to a secondary weapon or go hands on. Fights up close may not afford the time to clear a malfunction and sometimes it will be faster to just transition to a secondary pistol or even a blade or an impact weapon. And sometimes going hands on is the answer. We will work through them all. If we shoot someone we need to check our 6 o'clock to make sure that they do not have friends or accomplices coming up behind us to either shoot us or stab us or even try to disarm us. We work our 360 degree after action assessment and add to that our "defending SUL" weapon retention techniques to counter a gun grab attempt that may come while we are checking to make sure our 6 o'clock is clear. If you carry a gun you need to know how to defend it from a gun grab attempt. Going hand in hand with this is how to disarm someone else if they get your gun away from you. We look at dealing with multiple adversaries. According to statistics about half of assaults are commited by more than one assailant. If all you learn to do is stand still and shoot then working against multiple assailants is going to be a bad place to be. But we teach methods to put you in better position and leaving them having to shoot each other to get to you. There is an extremely high chance that if you are the victim of a close range assault that you will end up shooting with one hand . Maybe because you were using the other hand to protect yourself you did not have both hands available to shoot. You may have been injured in one hand or arm. You may be protecting a loved one or any other number of reasons. We work on improving your one handed shooting and will even look at reloading and clearing malfunctions one handed. If it can happen when you have two hands...it can happen with just one.It is best not to see it for the first time when it is for real. Most classes are only done shooting from some sort of standing postion. In Extreme Close Range Gunfighting we look at shooting from seated postions in all directions of the compass and getting off the x from a seated position. We spend a fair amount of our lives seated. It is good to have practiced reacting to an attack from that position. This seated position shooting then gives way to a fighting in and around vehicles package that will open your eyes to many things you may have never even considered before. We will look at drawing and engaging targets from inside your vehicle and when it is appropriate to bail out and run for cover. Then we work on both. This class is one of the few classes you can attend with live fire counter carjacking work from your own vehicle in all the directions of the clock. Unless you are in the Secret Service, you probably have not shot like this before. So there it is. Why is Extreme Close Range Gunfighting so extreme? Because it is the most complete and wide ranging skill set class that Suarez International offers. It gives you an EXTREMELY full set of skillsets that all work together to keep you and your loved ones safe. It may be the best kept secret in civilian training. Where else can you get ALL of these skills all in one weekend? The fact that you even CAN get them all in one weekend is EXTREMELY cool.

April 16-17, 2011 EXTREME CLOSE RANGE GUNFIGHTING Louisville, Kentucky Instructor: Randy Harris Price $400 Our Close Range Gunfighting Course has achieved international recognition as the highest level training available anywhere with a handgun. There is much, however, that cannot be studied in depth in that class purely from a lack of time. In Extreme Close Range Gunfighting we've gone even further. We cover many of the topics only hinted at in CRG, such as Shooting from seated positions (ie., in a vehicle), fighting when injured, and a dynamic module of instruction dealing with the ultra-close 0-6' distance. We also introduce fundamental gun vs. knife concepts. Most importantly, in this course we introduce the student to the dynamic and chaotic world of Force-on-force Interactive Training. Through a series of carefully executed and designed drills, the student will get the opportunity to apply what they've learned against live role-players. This is as close as you can get to a real gunfight without risking your life. Although there are no official pre-requisites for this course, we must point out that THIS COURSE IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR BEGINNERS - All attendees should have a thorough understanding of the defensive pistol fundamentals. If in doubt, please call us first. Come join us in this exciting and cutting edge training event. 10. Excellent! I look forward to seeing you in class again. This time it won't be in 7 inches of snow......
  11. Little bump here for those who may have not seen it. This is the next class I'll be doing in the area after classes in KY at Knob Creek and in South Carolina.
  12. Daniel, Hopefully you'll be able to catch the next one. We do still have spots available in all 3 classes (AK, Advanced AK and Armorer) if anyone is still considering signing up for this one.
  13. This one is just around the corner!! This is a rare opportunity to get the basic AND advanced AK class from the "AK people". We'll be teaching you how to run an AK like an AK and not trying to force M16 manipulations on it. You'll learn to appreciate it for what it is ...not curse it becasue it's levers and buttons are not in the same place as your other rifle.Throw in the armorers class on Friday night and you get a pretty complete package on how to run and disasseble, reassemble and trouble shoot the most common infantry rifle in existence. We still have spots available and I'd like to see TN Gunowners represented in class. Hope to see you there!
  14. It may be something as simple as you not "overthinking" and shooting when it is "good enough" not waiting until it is "perfect".

  19. And that is good advice to all. Be sure of what the law is where you are going. What I may carry here at home may not get packed for a trip. A big no no in most places is loaded long guns in your vehicle. Legal here with a Carry Permit, but not OK hardly anywhere else. There are different rules for home and away from home.....
  20. BobR, You MAY get sued. You MAY not. No way of predicting that with any accuracy.... And it is entirely possible that whoever taught your class may not have even known about TCA 39-11-622. I know several people who have shot people who were assaulting them.....all were justifiable shootings and none were sued. So to claim "you will get sued" is just not true.
  21. Good to see you in class again Goombah. As Goombah said, camping on site is available if you want to rough it a bit and save some $$$ on hotel. And yes we have shower facilities too.
  22. I am "certified to carry a club/baton". While there may well be LEOs who would charge someone, all that means is that you get charged. People get charged with stuff EVERYDAY and walk within hours of their attorney being called. For that matter I know of cops threatening to charge people for open carrying....so even cops do not always know what the law really is.... The odds are overwhelming that if you do not go around being a jack ass no one will ever know you have it anyway...remember, people generally do not get arrested for carrying weapons illegally...they get arrested for being a jackass (public drunkeness or something) and the cops FIND the illegally carried weapons on them. Concealed means concealed. And common sense always applies. Having said that, even though I am certified to do so, I do not carry a baton. They are more a "proactive" tool than a "reactive" tool. Ever try to deploy one with someone grappling with you? If you have the prior warning to deploy your baton, you probably have the prior warning to get away. Also if you use them the way the training teaches (hitting large muscle groups) they are really only going to work well on people that are inclined to follow your directions anyway (see Rodney King video...all those strikes were in green zones...that is why he didn't stop resisting). They are most effective on yellow and red zones but then we are into lethal force application.....batons are mostly for gaining pain compliance on folks who are not inclined to fight to the death. As also mentioned if you are going to use one, frankly the certification class is VERY weak on retention. You really need to practice that with non compliant opponents to make sure you can in fact keep somene from taking it away from you. I'd MUCH rather try to take a baton away from someone than a sap or blackjack.... You'd be better served to find a good MMA program or wrestling program or learn some simple effective hand to hand skills like WWII combatives and a little Judo and leave the baton to guys who are trying to arrest unruly drunks. In fact a metal bodied flashlght like a surefire 6P can be carried ANYWHERE and used as a fist load in an ice pick grip can be absolutely devastating when delivering a hammer fist and no one is going to charge you for carrying a flashlight......
  23. Thanks for the review MAV! And you have NOTHING to be uoset about on your shooting. You simply will not shoot one hole groups when you move off the X and fire a 3 round burst to the chest at 3 yards as fast as you can pull the trigger. If all your hits are in the thoraxic triangle (from nipples to neck) then that is all we can really ask for. You did just fine. IIRC we had a mix of glock 34s, glock 19s and a 1st gen glock 17 and one Smith and Wesson M&P. The once every 15 year "snow event" made things interesting, but everyone got in and out OK and now they know better how they will perform in the cold drawing form concealment in many layers of winter clothing. Hope to see you again in Close Range Gunfighting...when it is warmer.
