Justified!

http://pjmedia.com/andrewklavan/ “Justified” Nearing Crime Show Greatness January 23rd, 2013 - 6:01 am If you’re not watching the new season of Justified (Tuesdays at 10 on FX), you’re missing the best crime series on TV and what may be about to become one of the genuinely great crime series of all time. For me, most TV shows reach their highest level in the first year. Stories have a theme. The theme works itself out in the first year. Everything else is a sequel, second best. Sometimes by the fourth year a new theme is discovered and the show gets a second wind, but it’s still rarely as good as that first season. Dexter and The Wire, two great shows, come to mind as examples. But while the first three seasons of Justified have been distinguished by terrific acting, spectacular dialogue, excellent characters and moments of violence that were terrifying without being unnecessarily disgusting (usually), the year-long arcs of the plots have not been as great as the rest of the package. The show is inspired by an Elmore Leonard short story, and while Leonard’s genius for dialogue and his hilarious and realistic approach to human corruption are what inform the show at its best, his satiric and sometimes rambling plotting doesn’t translate that well to TV.(Or maybe it’s just that he’s not writing the show — though the creator Graham Yost has channeled him wonderfully.) In its first two episodes, however, this season looks to me to have moved to an even higher level. The yearlong plot, which involves the unearthing of a long-lost messenger bag, is inherently compelling and makes a great hook on which to hang the sub-plots. And the main characters seem to have found themselves in ways that give them fresh life. The appealing out-of-his-time hero Raylan Givens (played with a pitch-perfect blend of irony and valor by Timothy Olyphant) is in a relationship with a barmaid that promises some really interesting complications, especially as his ex is about to give birth to their child. The small-town gangster Boyd Crowder (played by The Shield‘s Walton Goggins, one of the best actors on TV, if not the best) is now in a relationship with his widowed sister-in-law Ava (played by the excellent and heart-meltingly beautiful Joelle Carter) that is as genuinely affectionate and touching as it is murderous and corrupt. Nick Searcy’s perfectly played Chief, world-weary but compassionate, is struggling with retirement. And all the new characters — a tent preacher, a constable, the barmaid’s ex — look to be richly drawn and promising. Really, watching the first two episodes was bliss. The second golden age of American crime writing, which lived in the novel during the 80′s and 90′s, has moved to television. Justified is an excellent part of that excellent trend and just seems to be getting better.

5. The Grand Opportunity Party Posted by Bruce Carroll - @GayPatriot at 1:06 pm - January 22, 2013. Filed under: Conservative Movement,Conservative Positivity,National Politics,New American Tea Party This piece was originally posted by my good friend Billy at the Charleston Tea Party webpage and at RedState.  It is re-posted here in full. -Bruce (@GayPatriot) ********* New US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) hits the nail squarely on the head in this piece for the Washington Post. The Republicans MUST become more effective at presenting the idea of the opportunities that conservatism provides. The GOP no longer needs to be known as the Grand Old Party, but the Great Opportunity Party. Our principles of limited government, personal responsibility, and a desire to make tomorrow better than today, are what make us uniquely qualified to address our nation’s challenges in the most productive manner. We MUST become salespeople of conservative ideals.   What is the opportunity that the GOP provides? We have a belief in the power of the individual to improve their own lot in life. We understand that it is hard work and a desire to learn that allows people to invest in their future. We KNOW that America and our founding principles are what continue to make America that “shining city on a hill” that John Winthrop spoke of as he reached the shores of this great land. I believe that we are at a time for choosing, and we must do as Reagan said, ““Four years ago we raised a banner of bold colors – no pale pastels. We proclaimed a dream of an America that would be a ‘shining city on a hill’.” We’re talking about the same bold colors today – crafting a message of opportunity and then communicating that message eloquently, forcefully, and without apology.   We offer a spirit of entrepreneurship. This idea is not only confined to those that own their own business, it applies to everyone as they seek to do their job to the best of their ability. I remember a store manager early in my career said to me, “Billy, in order for us to be successful, we need to run it like we own it.” He meant to take pride in the job that I did, and if I took ownership of the job I was assigned, I would be rewarded. This lesson paid off, as a short period of time later I entered the management training program. I continued to carry that philosophy throughout my time in the grocery business, and continue it today as I have a small business of my own. Any person can be an “entrepreneur,” whether it is the men and women that keep the office clean, the folks that make the products we use everyday, or the people that take care of us when we go out to eat. Anyone that takes pride in their job, and seeks a way to improve, is an entrepreneur.   We offer a way to invest in their future. The ability of an individual to keep the fruits of their labor is essential to investment. When we speak of “investing,” we don’t mean merely putting money in a 401(k), we mean saving to buy a place that you can call home, to buy books for your children so they may learn, to afford a family vacation so that you can make memories that will last a lifetime. Investment can take on many of these forms, but it is about one fundamental idea, “I want to make tomorrow better than today.”   We know that personal responsibility is essential to success. When you play by the rules and work hard you CAN succeed, however a burdensome government can often make this more difficult. The wages that people earn should not be used to bail out irresponsible business owners and others that have made poor decisions. The ability to fail is essential to success, I have learned far more from my failures, than I learned from my successes. If that opportunity to fail was not there, I would never have learned those valuable lessons. When people make bad decisions in business, they need to be allowed to fail, so that we all may learn these lessons to ensure success in the future. It is much better to learn not to touch a hot stove by watching someone else burn themselves, than putting yourself through that pain.   We have many other reasons for why we truly are the “Great Opportunity Party,” and this is just a start. I challenge each of you to think of ways that opportunity can lead to success, and to become salespeople of these ideals. Change begins at home, and I hope many of you will join us in this fight. We must shout our message from the rooftops, and liberate everyone from the “soft bigotry of low expectations.” We can continue to ensure that America remains that â€œlast best hope for mankind,” but it will take all of us working towards a common goal to get there.

8. Whole heartily agree!!!. When I have sold a gun I ask for a photocopy of buyers TNHCP and sign the BOS from this site. If buyer is not willingly to supply photocopy or fill out and sign BOS, then I will not sell to them.... Especially theses days, I want that extra layer of security.
9. Anyone know where I can find what states I can't ship to or who I can't ship to ? thanks
10. We should work hard to keep the republicans in office assuming they don't give in to these wishes. If Pelosi and the dems get back in power, they will force these through just like Obamacare. Support the NRA

12. Sometimes people are just  too contrary even though I might agree with the sentiments   Too Cute To Not Steal: Dog Teaches Clumsy Little Puppy How to Navigate Stairs —Ace My only question is: Why is it that this tugs at the heartstrings, and yet millions of human beings do the same thing with cute tiny human beings every single day and we shrug? And lots of humans help other adult humans too, and we consider that admirable, but we're not emotionally moved by it. Are we too jaded to appreciate human altruism? Or is there so much of it we don't recognize it for what it is? No kidding, there are Miracles all around us that we miss.       My other question would be: When are they going to add a feature which gives the user an audio or vibratory alert that he's holding his phone the wrong damn way when he takes video or a picture?   Close it up   link here http://ace.mu.nu/#336488
13. Really, you don't think the novice or uninformed even those who have little to no shotgun experience or AR experience couldn't/wouldn't learn anything from that video. I would rather have that guy be a spokesman for our rights than some of the loonies who are shooting off their mouths and making us all look bad.

18. Saw some pics of these guys clean shaven, also 1 episode where Chase's wife was very happy at the thought of them shaving their beards. Anyone know when they decided to grow the beards ? Did the just grow them for the show ? I assume the did since it does seem contrived most of the time. Still fun to watch.

22.
A few more facts... All the RSO's are volunteers, and get no compensation for the hours they work All the RSO's are shooters. Stone's River is the busiest range in the state, and gets lots of newbies, doing lots of stupid stuff. It is the best facility I've been to in the state I'm on my third annual membership there. If it was a private business, they could pay a staff, and maybe even open the 50 yard range. I almost always go on Fridays, and have had quite a bit of time to talk to some of the RSO's. That place gets insane on Saturdays and Sundays because of the large volume of shooters. With all that insanity, they manage to keep the place pretty safe.
Ditto been an annual member for 2 yrs now and I have always found the RSO' s to be helpful and that includes the female RSO in question. Great place to go especially for new shooters and gangster wannabe's .
