  1. There's this one brand of 1911 mil spec.....seems like it has a picture of a horsey on it, they've been making them for about 100 years now. I don't think you'd go wrong with one of them.
  2. Square butt or round? Target sights or non adjustable? Do you have the original box and paperwork? Is the gun in 100% unfired, unturned condition? These things make a big difference in whether it is truly a collector grade commanding big bucks, or a nice shooter. There's your gap in price.
  3. I wondered if that wasn't the case. Knowing that, I guess the dealer just chose a poor way to express the fact that he didn't want it. Looks like a fine carry gun.
  4. I don't know....in the photos, it looks like the pistol was buried in a pond, exumed a year later, and dragged into town behind a truck, where it was cleaned with an air grinder and reblued. I hope it's just the lighting. Is that the factory finish? If not, is it badly pitted? If the bore looks like the slide and frame in the pics, I think he made you a very generous offer.
  5. Not sure. Savage or Smith and Wesson probably, with Winchester and/or Colt not far behind.
  6. Ruger LCP.
  7. Sadly, I guess, I follow his logic, and find it hard to dispute. The 1911 was pressed into service because of a storm of reports that the Colt 38 DA wasn't effective. The 1911 worked! For some reason I can't state, our military saw fit to return to an inferior handgun, the 92 Beretta. They did the same thing with the standard battle rifle.
  8. My father made this one for me. It is made of D2 tool steel, and some sort of laminated wood. It wasn't a kit. He ground it, heat treated it, and all. It is a very heavy knife. I've carried it hunting for years now, and have gutted and skinned countless deer with it. It really holds an edge well.
  9. I can't tell from the picture whether it has a hammer or a grip safety, but it looks like a 1903 Safety Hammerless. It also appears that the grip panel is broken. It doesn't appear in the photo to have much finish left. Most of these I've seen had very loose actions. I'd also tell you to be aware that it is NOT a 38 Special, but a 38 S&W, which is hard to find ammo for. I'm also curious if the holster has a maker's mark on it. If it's an S.D. Myers, Lawerence, Heiser, etc., It could have as much or more value than the revolver. The stag handled knife in front of it, however, I'd like to know more about.
  10. What little pine I've seen burned went POOF! and left a pile of ashes and oozing, sticky resin behind.
  11. I'm a country boy, and I've always liked guns. I found myself forgetting I had one on my belt, and going into town for something. Probably wouldn't cause a problem here, as most everyone knows me, but I thought it wouldn't take but once for me to have a lot of trouble on my hands. My wife expressed interest in a handgun carry permit, so I thought that would be a good opportunity for both of us to get legal. Sometimes I carry, and sometimes I don't. I don't go many places where I'm scared of trouble. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't leave the house unarmed. I'm proud of her for that.
  12. I occasionally open carry when the situation dictates, but nearly all the time, my firearm is concealed. I can think of few things that would pizz me off more than some loudmouth confronting me about why I feel the need to carry a gun. That's a situation you'll not win.
  13. I'd like to shoot that 27! I'll bet it really shoots great. I always thought the checkered topstrap on them were a nice touch of class not found on other revolvers.
  14. Very, very nice!!!!!! These kind of muddy the waters, however.
  15. THat makes my brain hurt......SAA or Registered Magnum? Model 27 or Python? Model 29 or Anaconda? I CAN"T choose!!!!!
  16. You need to fix this survey. It is definitely flawed. It's like asking if you like Harleys or Indians.
  17. Where the h3ll is the "YES" option?
  18. It says it's cryogenically AUS8 stainless steel. I don't know how it'll hold up. but it's sure sharp now.
  19. Have you shot it? You'll likely find the action to be a lot smoother than the late models.
  20. If yours is in good shape, please don't let it get away.....at least not before you talk to me.
  21. It's totally different than the later ones.
  22. THis is the kind of thing that get's a guy started in reloading. I can load a wadcutter to where you can almost see it travel from the barrel to the target. I can also load a hollow base wadcutter backwards, really hot, and have the meanest hollowpoint load you've ever seen.
  23. Oh my! Does it have a flat cylinder release latch?
  24. Good choices! Thanks for the contest. I enjoyed staying up to date on the new postings. There are some members here with very interesting guns.
  25. Are you still counting hanging chads?
