  1. Sure.....but where's the fun in only one gun? Need is really a subjective thing.
  2. It doesn't seem comfortable to me to carry a saw every time I go hunting. Could be I just haven't ran across the right saw.
  3. I like the looks of some of those knives at WalMart. How well do they hold an edge?
  4. Forschner Knives - Fibrox Butcher Knives These are some really good butcher knives for the price.
  5. Here's the one I use. The blade is d-2 tool steel, and measures 0.1625 thick and 4.5 inches long. It is heavy enough to chop through the pelvis without much effort. It also works well for skinning.
  6. How do you split the rib cage and pelvis with a small folding knife? I like a heavy knife...not extremely long, just heavy. I've broken several lockback knives field dressing deer, so I prefer a fixed blade. I also prefer the skinner type blade to the drop point. They are less likely to puncture the intestines.....an unpleasant experience. Either of these would make a good field dressing knife.
  7. A big part of my job is customer service, and I find that while you run into a few idiots that can't be helped, most people end up being easy to work with once they learn that you actually care about their problem or concern.
  8. Wouldn't sunlight reflect off this to the point of blinding anything or anybody who looked at it?
  9. Remington, in my experience, has one of the best customer service programs in the industry.
  10. Don't give up. It might be all you get, but you might be able to wring out a bit more accuracy if you put the effort into finding the right load. I've owned a few 77 Rugers. Some shot a bit better than what you've said, some not as good. I haven't fired the new Hawkeye models. I've actually had some guns that shot tighter groups with full length resized cases. You never know what might make a difference. I'll also suggest you try a flat based bullet instead of the boattail. Good luck in shrinking the groups. Keep us posted.
  11. Try adjusting your overall length. What kind of rifle are you shooting? Are your groups dispersed evenly, or are they strung out vertically or horizontally? Have you thoroughly cleaned your barrel lately? I'm sure you've thought of all of these, but once in a while you might let something obvious slip by. Many rifles simply don't shoot any better than that.
  12. I imagine it was the fault of the internal lock.
  13. If you leave them in place, doesn't the wind or falling limbs or some such damage them?
  14. My favorite load is about in the middle between min and max listings in my old Sierra manual. It consists of Remington cases, CCI 200 Primers, 51.0 grains of IMR 4350, and a 140 gr Sierra SPBT bullet. I've discovered that in my two rifles, reducing the OAL from the maximum listing of 2.330 to 2.225 reduces group sizes noticeably. I have a featherweight model 70 Winchester that shoots 3/4" 100 yard groups with it, and a custom mauser that will print one hole groups with the same load. If you don't mind sharing, what's yours?
  15. All jokes aside, try another scope.
  16. I've never used one, but I'm taking my 11 year old son, who has trouble being still, hunting, and I've recently thought about a ground blind. I'd love to hear any experiences or information you all have about them. Are they useful? Are they worth the trouble of setting one up? Do deer notice them? Any info or experiences, good or bad, are appreciated.
  17. This is the first year I can remember in which I've not yet found a single rub or scrape. I'ts weird! I see plenty of does, but I can't find the bucks. The does seem extra docile; like tame animals nearly.
  18. I might be interested in the Nashville session for my wife and myself. Your course sounds interesting. Most people I've found wish to simply explaain to you how tough and knowledgeable they are.... usually they are an idiot with a gun. I don't know what your criteria for a training location is, but I might even be able to provide that. I'd love to take a course to improve my handgun abilities. I've yet to find one that suits my interests.

    SAA Clones

I'd say so.The 45 Colt isn't that hot a round. My wife is a little thing, and she shoots a 44 Magnum as well as I do. The 45 Colt gives more of a rolling push than a bite like, say, a .357 Magnum.
  20. No deer today. We saw a couple of does. He decided he wanted to wait for a buck, which didn't materialize. I saw a squirrel use his tail for a napkin today. Never saw that before. All in all it was a great weekend. Any day in the woods is a fine day.
  21. It might be you. Just a thought.
  22. Load a few with Pyrodex and shoot them, then switch back to the Unique loads. You won't notice the smoke any longer. Seriously, it probably comes from burnt bullet lube.
  23. Not a trophy by any means, but we had a successful hunt this morning despite all the rain. He made a great shot on this deer, quartering away from us at a distance of at least 150 yards. Taking the young 'uns hunting is always fun. This doe is now in strips marinating in the fridge. He wants to go back tomorrow in search of a buck.
  24. I can't wait to see the pictures!
