  1. Wonder if, in their recounting of those supposed letters, they have accurately realized that Memphis has at least one from me informing them that I was cancelling travel plans to Memphis because of their actions to PROHIBIT carry in certain downtown areas? Nah, I didn't think so....
  2. Totally agree with PackinMama...these guns are really sweet. With regards to the magazine and FTLock: I had one mag that would do this maybe 50% of the time. Called SA cust service and told them, they sent me another mag free (shipped the same day), with no request to return the defective one. Upon opening the box, there were 2 mags - coolness! I gotta check outt those Esmeralda grips - nice!!
  3. So far, no corresponding Senate entries, which is perhaps a good sign. Really shouldn't be an unexpected tact - those who feel they lost ground last session are naturally gonna try to show some life, flex some muscle where they can. Related activity - note todays PR that Nashville and Memphis city travel gurus say "guns-in-bars" has hurt tourist traffic in those cities. Timing just a coincidence there? Nah...
  4. Some new bills starting to filter in - thought maybe it would be nice to have a single place where new leigislation could be listed, then seperate specific threads to discuss those of interest: HB 2421 (Hardaway) - As introduced, reinstitutes the requirement that the purchaser of a firearm give a thumbprint as part of background check process and that the TBI furnish thumbprint cards and pads to firearm dealers. HB 2422 (Hardaway) - As introduced, creates various gun show offenses, including prohibiting any person who is not a licensed firearms dealer from transferring a firearm to another person if any part of the transfer takes place at a gun show or within 1,000 feet of a gun show. NOTE: Separate thread to discuss the two above is here . HB 2567 (Fincher)/SB 2390 (Jackson) - As introduced, allows person without handgun carry permit to transport rifle or shotgun in privately-owned motor vehicle provided there is no ammunition in the chamber or cylinder and no loaded clip or magazine in the weapon or in close proximity to the weapon. SB 2391 (Jackson) - As introduced, removes the authority of the governor to commandeer or limit the sale or transportation of firearms, ammunition, or firearm or ammunition components during a state of emergency, major disaster, or natural disaster. [NOTE: clarifies that emergency management powers compensating for, comandeering or utilizing private property may NOT be construed as including firearms. This revision also clarifies that similar emergency powers that "Suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation of alcoholic beverages, explosives, or combustibles" likewise may NOT be construed to include firearms or ammunition.]
  5. Wife and I probably go Sat mid-morning. Supposed to be WARM finally!!!
  6. Ramsey here, too. I've had personal interactions with him for the better part of 30 years, and know his level of commitment to these issues (and others). He's a good man.
  7. This from the GSMNP web site: Change in Concealed Weapons Regulations Due to recently enacted Federal law, there will be significant changes in the firearms regulations pertaining to the National Park Service which will take effect on February 22, 2010. Until the new regulations takes effect, carrying a concealed firearms is not allowed and all possession of firearms within National Park Service lands must be in accordance with 36 CFR 2.4, which states firearms must be "rendered temporarily inoperable or are packed, cased or stored in a manner that prevents their ready use." Information concerning the new regulations will be posted prior to the February 2010 implementation date.
  8. At long last, the Cherokee National Forest website clarifies the status of handgun possession within CNF... May persons possessing handgun carry permits possess their handguns while in the Cherokee National Forest? YES - Recent State legislative changes provide that individuals who possess a carry permit may possess their handgun while on Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) wildlife management areas, public hunting areas, or refuges open to hunter access. Because the Cherokee National Forest is managed under an agreement with the Forest Service, USDA and TWRA as a Wildlife Management Area this legislative change applies to the Cherokee National Forest. The handgun may not be used for taking game unless specifically permitted by TWRA regulation. For more information regarding this legislative change and related TWRA information please contact the TWRA at 1-800-332-0900 or visit their web site.
  9. Wife alternates between a KelTec .32 and a .32 Walther PPK/S. Both come equipped with Win Silvertips. The Walther is a somewhat picky eater, but digests Win STs and, of all things, MagTech flawlessly. The KelTec will eat anything.
  10. Likely so. One indicated that there are already plans to introduce such in both chambers, but he didn't say by whom.
  11. Heard from three different local legislators this week...each indicated they would be supporting the "simple exemption", and not Sen. Jackson's approach.

A very Merry Christmas to all. Blessed we are, very blessed indeed!

    Snowin'??

At least it was pretty...sporadic power outages, few trees down. And now the yucky part begins.

    Snowin'??

A good six inches or so outside (east of Bristol)...couple of old pine trees down here in the subdivision, and I've seen several flashes from transformers goin blooey! It's still comin down.
  15. At least one legislator in this region has indicated that he is going to explore the route of placing a simple exception statement into subsection © of TCA 39-17-1305 (Sale of alcoholic beverages; premises; possession of firearms) [subsection © lists exceptions to the general ban stated in subsection (a) such as for LEOs]. Can't be found to be vague (it's identical to the exception for LEOs), doesn't need any additional language RE postings, penalties, etc cause those are covered in other sections of the code already. Simple legislative solution.
  16. From TWRA site, RE carry in WMAs: May persons possessing handgun carry permits possess their handguns while on WMAs, PHAs, or refuges open to hunter access? Recent legislative changes provide that individuals who possess a carry permit may possess their handgun while on TWRA wildlife management areas, public hunting areas, or refuges open to hunter access. The handgun may not be used for taking game unless specifically permited by TWRA regulation. This change will now allow those with carry permits to possess their handgun at times when previously it would not have been permissible such as during archery hunting. TWRA will apply this same interpretation to those possessing carry permits while hunting on private lands.

  18. We'll probably swing by mid-morning Saturday.
  19. I agree with you both (mosinon and HvyMtl) - it would have been an even bigger disaster if she had taken that route, because there would surely have been follow-on challenges to that action, and then its in court ad infinitum. And yes, that type of action from the bench is totally inappropriate. Pretty good synopsis, HM...it does seem to be rather focused and specific to one particular issue, and at the same time does give definitive answers to certain other challenges that should head off any future attempts to go down those roads.
  20. Interesting: the AG's office tried to offer up the option for the judge to "eliminate" the offending language in the instance where she might find some portion of the statute vague or ambiguous. She didn't take the bait on that one, unfortunately. I had the same reaction, Mosinon. The devil was in that one detail...one clause of a half-dozen words or so.
  21. From looking at a Nov 24 copy of the bench ruling, it appears that the undoing of the current TCA 39-17-1305 ©(3)( is the terminal phrase "and the serving of such meals shall be the principal business conducted." [emphasis added] The judge apparently agreed that all other facets of the definition of the term "restaurant" as used in the statute were able to be ascertained by the average person; however, she opined that an average person could not reliably determine whether serving meals was the principal/primary business conducted by the business, even upon questioning of restaurant workers. This ambiguity thus causes the entire statute to be "unconstutionally vague" by presenting a situation wherein a well-intentioned permit holder could not reliably discern whether an establishment that serves alcohol met the exclusion criteria in the statute.
  22. Had a Glock and an XD subcompact (both in .40) and was pretty happy with them. Picked up a Colt Combat Elite, ran a box of 50 thru it at the range. Sold the Glock the next weekend, and gave the XD to my son that same day. Funny, I go with folks to the range to shoot a variety of handguns...they invariably get wide-eyed and kinda quiet after shooting the Colt...and they come back for more, and more, and more.
  23. My EMP .40 had a few FTF issues in the first 50 -100 rounds. Like yours, it has smoothed out now and runs very well. I use Win Ranger SXTs for carry ammo, and have never had an issue with feeding them. Have tried a few Fed HS (< 1 mag worth), and they did OK, but not enough for a meaningful test. Put about 550 rounds through it in a recent class - the only issue arose with one particular magazine that would occasionally fail to slide lock on an empty mag. I did notice that it seems to fit a bit "looser" than the other two, so I've labelled it appropriately and am awaiting on delivery of some more. Had similar experience with its cousin in .45. Break-in period was about 100 rounds...now, it feeds and shoots smooth as a baby's butt. It, too, eats Win Ranger SXTs like candy.
  24. Given the strong consideration also being given the "parking lot" bill (a similar issue being raised, and some interesting debate on it during the summer session), there may be sufficient precedent...or at least sufficient willingness to test those waters. After all, there are similar discrepancies elsewhere to be able argue the point. And, if the legislature continues to test those waters, the end result may be a not-so-bad place to be...
  25. I'm not gonna wear myself out obsessing over this hiccup, nor am I ready to break out the sackcloth and ashes. I'll trust the legislators we've sent to Nashville to carry through on what they started...after all, it's their efforts that got us far enough to have something to be talking about.
