Life is full of choices and we all have to make them, some good, some bad. All of the metal boxes (safes) the big box stores sell are made overseas and like I said before are sold on price , not quality. In all of the time that I have been in the safe / security business I have tried to offer my customers a choice of safes that fit their budget and are quality products. A problem with the big box stores is they sell thousands of products and (safes) are just one of those products and are treated as such. I always find the stories that my customers tell me about their experiences at the big box stores interesting. While there are a lot of good people working at these stores , they generally do not know much about safes and security, some cannot even open the safes sitting on their floor. I buy products from these stores from time to time but I don't buy their cheap low in products that don't last because in my experience it ends up costing more in the long run. Most of the safe service work me and my service tech's do is on lower end safes and its due to the low quality and poor workmanship of the safes. Thanks for the discussion and your comments are always welcome, one thing I will say is that I will always try and shoot you straight whether people want to hear it or not.

Yes, you can change out the lock to a mechanical lock with out a problem. If you do find someone to change it out for you make sure they have safe lock experience and are not just a locksmiths.

I'm not just picking on Cannon and TSC, go to most of the big box stores and their safes are sold on price, not quality. They have low fire ratings and are made out of thin metal, have very little hard plate to resist drilling, are easy to pry open , standing up or laying down on their backs, most are spot welded and can be beaten open with a small sledge hammer in under a few minutes. I have done warranty work on most of the low end safes sold at the local big box stores and have witnessed first hand the low quality and poor workmanship on these safes. It boils down to the market they are trying to reach, if all you need is a metal box then price is what you need to go on, but if you want a quality safe, not a metal box to protect your valuables then don't go to a big box store to purchase a quality safe. IMHO

With the Cannon you get what you pay for, I've pried one of their TSC specials open with a crowbar in under two minutes, cheap price , cheap safe. Just Saying........

Just remember that Free isn't always free, check the final price and compare. Also, who is delivering your safe for free? is it a few guys that have worked for the company for a long time and are trust worthy employee's or are they seven dollar an hour part time guys that now have the combination to your safe, your address and now know where all of your valuables will be stored. As "safes" commented, check out the warranty on a safe by reading their website or written warranty card or better yet call and ask the company who does their service work in your area and call them and ask how they stand behind the warranty. Just because a company says something on a website doesn't mean that they will stand behind the warranty. The biggest problem I see with safe warranties are from the companies that don't actually manufacture any safes, they just contract with cheap overseas safe manufacturers that build low quality safes.

What brand of safe do you have? if you want the same brand of shelves then you can probably order a set of shelves from the safe company. All of the Winchester safes are made overseas now, The Winchester safes that you see at TSC are their lower end models with 30 minute fire ratings and cheaper construction, that is why the price is lower than the regular models. Here is an example of the lower end Winchester safe you are refering to ................... So just to make sure I read your post correctly, You are saying on this message board that ALL of you safes are US made and are not imported from overseas? If that is correct, where is your manufacturing plant in the states? You said...... " There are companies all over the internet using our "Patriot" style branding and logos. These companies gun safes are NOT made in America! While you probably already know people use free "Forums" for marketing. Marketing to grab peoples attention for the purpose of selling their version of the best gun safe in the world. They also use it to spread information which would help them slander our gun safe company "UNCHECKED" and sell their cheap gun safe knock-offs in the shadows of this forum. Even the people who had a so called "rude customer service experience" only signed into this forum one time to post and never signed in again. We find that disturbing that it's that easy for people to spread lies on the internet. We also find it strange that not one of these people has ever posted any contact information or contacted us for the fact they posted. For us it sounds like they posted these statements for no other reason than to post a slanderous message about the "Official" Patriot Safe Co. All of the safes you see at the big box stores are made overseas and are of questionable quality. If you want to get a good safe don't get a safe at a big box store. I see that you are in knoxville?
