  1. :up:Point One, So? any good commentator doesn't have time to do all of their own research. Point Two, Yeah I agree..... but that doesn't make him wrong Point Three, When he worked for CNN he was the same as he is now, maybe just not as free to say things, but I think that is why he left CNN Point Four, While I don't agree with the Mormon way of thinking I don't hold that against him I too can only handle GB for so long, but he is spot on about most of the things he talks about and I really don't care who does his research.
  2. The thing to look at on a safe no matter the brand is the enternal temp during the test and the way the test was ramped up during the test. I don't have any thing bad to say about the Fort Knox safes, they just cost more than any other brand on the market. As I said Great Safe but expensive. The Browning Prosteel safes have anywhere from a 2 hour fire rating down to a 30 minute rating. They rate their safes to an enternal temp of 275 where most other companies use a 350 degree enternal temp. I don't recommend a 30 minute fire rating no matter who makes it. If you want a Ft Knox safe call me and I can get you a price on the model you are interested in.
  3. You mean a Nashville beer summit?
  4. Crash, You said: In all things there are "teachable moments"... until now this one was largely missed. Teach us... Point well taken, I guess it gets frustrating having companies making claims on the internet with out backing up their products. Patriot safe makes a fairly good upper end safe but their Warrior model is not well made and is of questionable origins. A lot of features mentioned on a PS safe is window dressing, while I can't argue with someone that has had a warranty claim with PS and it was handled well , I can shed some light on sales hype and fluff. If I got off track during a post and said something untrue I will be the first to admit it, I always try to give the facts wheather someone wants to hear them or not. Sometimes it offends people to hear something that they think is true and it's really not. Just to let you know where my point of reference comes from, I have been selling and working on safes for over 17 years, but I will be the first to admit I do not know everything there is to know and I learn new stuff everyday. I have seen safes that were UL listed, fire rated , pry proof , etc etc popped open like tin cans, burned up in small fires, have warranty issues and companies not cover their safes, have seen so called "top secret" locks that are called fail proof fail. So I'm very cautious with the brands of safes I carry and the advise I give my customers. I have eaten warranties from safe companies that haven't stood behind their safes, and no I don't carry their safes anymore. So do I have all of the answers? No, but I do stand behind the products I sell and try to give my customers the answers they need to make an informed decision, even if they don't buy a safe from me. Peace:usa:
  5. Great Safes, very expensive, check out the Browning Prosteel safes, they offer better features and fire ratings at a better price.
  6. Hey Adam, Didn't you know that California is a foreign country now !
  7. Sorry but, 1. you stated that Patriot Safes are made in China, Wrong the ones we are discussing are made in the USA 2. You claim that Browning safes are made in America (some perhaps but many that I have seen are not, along with their guns) 3. You claim that Patriot safes are cheap Dead Wrong No arguing here just stating the facts that you have dead wrong, while I understand you are upset about the middle man being cut out, a good buisness practice is to not slander a company when you do not have a leg to stand on Okay, where do I start, The Patriot safe I was refering to is made in china, The Patriot safe you are refering to has one of their upper end safes made in the states, their Warrior safe is a cheap low end safe that is made oversea's or is partly assembled oversea's then shipped over and parts are added to get the made in the US label. Patriots "Warrior" safe is cheap, I have installed them before and they are a joke, have you seen one? or just read about it on the internet? As for Browning making safes overseas , yes that is correct, their Bronze and Theftgard , but its their two lower end safes, by the way the features on the Bronze are far superior to the PS Warrior safe. All of their other safes are made in Utah and their fire ratings and features are better than PS's . I always tell my customers about the features, where they are made and let them decide, I prefer a U S product if I can find one, if not I will reluctantly purchase a foreign product. Next:screwy:
  8. https://www.patriotsafe.com/quotCloset-Modelquot-18-gun-safe-2-hour-fire-1880-LEO-SPECIAL_p_2.html Yeah I still don't know what you are reading??? Adam, Are you having fun talking to yourself? Everything I said can be backed up by facts, so no you didn't call me out. I just refuse to argue with someone that believes everything he reads on line and what one company tells him over the phone. If you are so in love with PS, I hope they enjoy you as a customer. As for the deal you list, yes I can get you a better and bigger safe than you listed for the same price. So are you happy or do you want to come up with some other insult and argue back in forth, as I said if you want to argue go find your self a wife and torture her with you endless rants
  9. Read my previous post, that about says it all
  10. If you want to argue with someone find a wife, but if you want a good quality safe with a "Certified" fire rating, not something just written on a piece of paper or posted on the internet, features that are more than just window dressing, I can get you a good safe at a good price. Now for your statement saying you want a safe with all of the features you listed for $1800, check out PS website, their 1 hour safe is listed at $2199 and its more with the 2 hour (un certified) fire rating. So if you are going to mouth off get your facts straight. As for selling you a safe I will take a line from a book written about SW airlines where Herb K the CEO told a customer to take his business else where, because as a business owner you do get to choose who you do business with, you would probably be more than a PNTA and not worth the little bit of money I would make selling you a safe. I know I know some of you are thinking what is this guy thinking turning down business but in all the years of being in retail its the one percent that makes life hard, life is to short.
  11. Well I have install a few of these safes and they all have the signs of being a china built safe, if its not I will be very surprised.
  12. The Amsec BF series is about the same price as the Browning Medallion Series and for the money the Browning is a better safe, due to the extra features and fire rating on the Browning. The Amsec BF series is a good safe, the 1/2 plate door is great, but feature wise the Browning wins out. As for Patriot, good luck if something goes wrong with it and its made in china. The last one I installed that a customer ordered and had shipped to me was a piece o crap. Just went to the website to see what kind of lies they are spreading today and it looks like the same stuff as always. I think its funny that their name is "Patriot" what are they a Patriot of the chinese gov't? Just remember guys, you may save a few dollars in the short hand but when you or a friend losses a job due to people buying "cheap" and poor quality chinese products don't whine and complain !
  13. All of the safes that you will find in the local area that are in the under $1000 price range are made in china. About the closest thing you will find is a Champion Medalist Series that is made about 20 miles south of the border in Mexico. If you want to spend in the $1300 to 1800 range there is a good selection of quality US made safes. I prefer the US made safes, but you have to be willing to pay the extra price for the quality. 14. Just because you don't hear of safes being stolen or pried open does not mean it's not happening. I went on five different service calls in middle Tennessee last year where safes were pried open or stolen. There was also a safe owner that had most of his guns stolen because he did not lock his safe ! Just because you have a safe does not mean your valuables will not be stolen or lost in a fire, you are probably thinking, how is that ? Well first and foremost if you buy a cheap safe don't expect it to keep someone with a crowbar out of your safe or if you have a low fire rating don't expect the safe to keep your items from burning up in a fire. We all like getting a good deal and saving money but when you buy a cheap safe just understand what that means. ALL of the safes that are sold at big box stores that cost under $1000 are generally made in China and are of questionable quality and security. The saying about "you get what you pay for" applies in this case. If you want to see a video of a safe being pried open visit my website at www.nashvillesafehouse.com or drop by my show room and I have pictures of other safes that were broken into in the Tennessee area. Safes are like parachutes, when you need to use it, you don't want a cheap one. MB The Safe House
  15. Bolting your safe to the foundation of the house will not hurt the concrete and when you move you can just drive them all the way through until they are level or break them off after you move the safe out. The other way to secure a safe is to wire it into your alarm system if you have one, so if anyone tampers with it your alarm will go off. TSH
  16. Someone wrote me an email asking the following questions I'm curious as to your opinion on Steelwater Safes. The 45 gun safe they advertise is a 10 gauge safe with 4 gauge door and 1 1/2" bolts and a 60 min / 1250 F rating. They are selling these for ~$1600 with free shipping. Any thoughts? My Reply: The Steelwater safe is a foreign made safe that is just distributed through two warehouses in the US. The spec's on the safe are a 10 gauge body which is 1/8 inch thick, which is typical for body thickness, a 4 gauge door which is under 1/4 inch thick, this is a way for steelwater to make their door thickness sound stronger than it really is, a 1/4 plate door is a good starting point, but a composite door with 10 (1/8") to a 7 (3/16") gauge front sheet with fire board and an inner liner is a better door. While Steelwater talks a good game they are nothing more than a internet safe company that produces their safes overseas and tries to make everyone think that they are priced better and have a higher quality safe than they really do. Example : I have a safe with a 10 gauge body and over an 1 1/2 composite door and 1 1/2 bolts and the cost is only 1299.00 . If you would like to come down to my showroom I would be happy to show them to you. Mark The Safe House
  17. Was reading through the posts tonight and wanted to comment on the discussion concerning Cannon safes. I carried Cannon safes for over 5 years at The Safe House. While I admit they do make a safe (thin metal box) their warranty isn't worth the paper its written on. I had trouble getting them to cover simple warranty issues on numerous safes and finally stopped selling their safes because of it. So if you have a warranty issue good luck getting anything done about it. As for the security of the Cannon safes sold at TSC, Academy, etc they are the lower end of the Cannon brand and are very easily pried open, just look at the right hand side of the door( TSC safes) and look at how the back of the door is just recessed behind the frame, very easily defeated, only four bolts on the front of the door, thin metal bodies, 30 minute fire rating, even the material on the shelves is cheap, about the only thing that is good about the safe is that you didn't pay very much for it, which there is a reason it was sooooo cheap. Cannon's upper end series are heavy duty, but there are other companies that have better safes at a better price and have a warranty that they actually stand behind. This summer there was a rash of safe break ends in the Nashville area and I witnessed some cheap safes that were popped open like a tin can. Just realize what you are getting for a cheap price and what kinda of protection it provides. Remember ....... Safes are like parachutes, if you ever need it you don't want it to be a cheap one

  21. You probably can bolt it down through the bottom of the safe, if it doesn't have predrilled holes just get a good drill and bit and drill a few holes in the bottom. MB
  22. If the lock and bolt work are in good shape, yes it is better than nothing.
  23. Hope all of you that attend the Goodman show remember the article interviewing one of the Goodmans saying that he believed in gun control ???? I haven't attend one of his shows since and don't plan on supporting his shows.
  24. Lol...here is one for $350 right down the road. Will it be enough? Wouldn't need a pry bar for that one its already open..........
  25. Pie, We all have our opinions about things, the thing I offer my customers is the knowledge that over 16 years of selling and servicing gun safes gives me. I have seen numerous safes popped open with different pry bars and long handled screw drivers. I have also seen them cut open with jigsaws, saws alls, and hand grinders. So I will disagree "again" with your post about a $400 safe being a good investment to protect your valuables. Peace MB
