  1. I ordered mine yesterday, thankfully, their already out of stock on the model I ordered now. If only I could get Farnsworth to successfully fax their ffl to k-var... They said they did it yesterday, K-var says they don't have it. Some woman from k-var said she would call them, and she did. Then she calls me back and says she still hasn't received it!
  2. good call, i didn't catch that.. must be why their so expensive.
  3. They did lower the price on one of their 5.45's.. the bulgarian ak74 - slr106fr, its pretty nice too.
  4. I was just about to post the link!!! great minds think alike. I just ordered my saiga 10 minutes ago! Hopefully there will be pics of my ebr and com bloc ebr by the start of next week. https://www.k-var.com/shop/home.php
  5. seriously, on the cheap... high standard - search for it on gunbroker. i bet you could buy one for 100 or under, haven't looked myself... just my bet.
  6. curious about the saiga converted rifles...othe than the trigger being farther back etc. in its original form are there any differences, i.e, the receiver looks longer on the saiga...is it? also does the saiga except drop in parts from a traditional ak? off topic; is a warsaw pact buttstock shorter than a nato length buttstock?
  7. I havent read everyones responses, and im sure at least one will read almost word for word with mine...but, if I had to have five and only five. and these are as close to in order for me. .22 rifle. ar or ak depending on your obssession. good semi auto sidearm. reach out and touch something bolt action. .38/.357 trusty revolver. everything else would just be because of my love of firearms, the 1911 wasnt listed (my fave) because i would rather have a hi cap battle sidearm.
  8. okay, very interesting... if you'll notice in the picture the scope mount. it actually screws to the side of the reciever and fits down into the stock. two of the screws can be seen inside the chamber. The screw holes are quite worn and the screws when tightened enough protrude into the chamber a bit. I thought about this the first time I put it back together but it seemed to function fine. I just took it apart and decided to back those screws out a bit. I also actuated the firing pin with a small screwdriver so I could visually confirm it would come out of the bolt... it did. For some reason I just decided to put it back together without further dissassembly (i'm lazy). what do you know the bolt didn't stick at all and I worked it quite a bit and then... I shot it, outside and with intention of course. The screws didn't keep the bolt from coming forward all the way but may have prevented the bolt from rotating all the way... all I can figure.
  9. this is it...
  10. no, yes, and yes. Unforntunately I don't think I could swap out any parts, its one of those evil 3rd Gen Universal carbines. I'll get it apart shortly and see what I can see as far as the firing pin goes.
  11. first off, yes its the carbine, dont know what i was thinking... wasnt stored chambered. father in law has never known it not to shoot. when i got it i took the reciever/ barrel out of the stock and cleaned what i could. if i can pull the bolt back it ejects just fine.
  12. so I got the m1 out that my father in law gave to me and went outside with no intent to shoot it. I racked the bolt back. took out the magazine and was going to rack the bolt back to unload the chambered round.... nothing. it likes to get stuck alot apparently. guess i have to shoot it. pull trigger...nothing. finally got the bolt open, put the magazine back in (figured it might be a dud) and round after manually ejected round, no bang. figured i'd ask for some input before aimlessly taking things apart... firing pin? I don't know, but the pin isn't even making a scratch in the primer.
  13. anyone have any way to remove the brass marks from an ejected round on an 1911 and ar??? I've not shot my 1911 very much and its beat the crap out of right behind the chamber opening on the slide, i'm sure its a common place for dings but isn't there a way to make them less visible?
  14. so, i've looked through my control panel and can't find anything that satisfies me in the way of an answer... If I want e-mail notification of responses to posts i've made or threads I've started how do I get that to happen?
  15. I had one a long time ago, I guess one of the originals... an ad for it (or just someone trying to sell it to me, can't remember) said it was one issued to air marshalls. Whatever, I didn't like... just don't like nylon holsters all that much and it was a little big.
  16. anyone ever check out voodoo tactical, the stuff ive seen in catalogs seems pretty reasonable....like a cheaper version of blackhawk.
  17. old and new...
  18. My benchmade mini gryptilian i've carried everyday for about 7 years I even used their blade sharpening service....excellent! they gave me a new clip and all new screws! other is my sog seal pup, i've got a couple more including a leatherman multitool.
  19. coal creek armory, knoxville, tn.
  20. i was looking through a catalog (sportsmans guide) and saw several items from voodoo tactical, looks like good stuff...lots of m.o.l.l.e packs etc., put me in mind of a cheaper version of blackhawk gear. anybody buy any of their stuff? wondering if its cheaper and CHEAPER or just cheaper. on a side note anyone know how blackhawks s.t.r.i.k.e system differs from m.o.l.l.e stuff?
  21. savage has several to choose from actually, their thumbhole stock/stainless is a very attractive .223
  22. my daughter (4) says i'm silly for laughing so hard at the computer, that was great.
  23. thats funny, I sent him a pm and told him to talk me out of it... maybe he'll see the thread and weigh in, or just tell me i'm crazy!
  24. Heres the thing, I'm going to use this thread to collect my thoughts and hopefully weigh some peoples input. On what you ask? Well, i've always wanted an ar, I also would not mind having an ak, but an ar is on the top of the list right now. I'm very excited and was practically sold on a piston driven AR platform, my favorite 2: lwrc m6a2, and the ruger sr 556. I'll be spending my saved up ar money on or immediately around 9/15, and the closer I get to that area of the calendar the more I think... dang, those piston driven ar's cost alot of money. Hopefully here is where I'm going to talk myself into and out of whatever it is I decide to do. Despite mr. ruger's betrayal the ruger has had the edge on the lwrc for 2 reasons: 1, its cheaper and comes with more goodies. 2, the way its advertised tells me that ruger wanted to design a piston driven rifle and make it look like and function like an ar-15, which to me sounds better than just dropping something in an already existing ar. Now is this true... I don't know. I've been battling lately with getting a plain old dgi ar.... why, i'll tell you (or myself): 1.) its much cheaper, and for the price of a gp ar I could purchase a wide variety of dgi ar's (stag, rra, dpms, etc..) and an ak47 if I really wanted to 2.) theres basically one design and umteen million manufacturers of replacement parts and you won't have to rely on say ruger for their specific gp design, or lwrc for their specific gp design etc... when something fails, and something will fail 3.) I've read the debates but these are things I don't and can't really know for myself: lighter, more accurate, more of a free floating barrel (from what i've read on the ruger the accuracy thing can be thrown out the window). Now I don't have much experience with the ar platform, but the 'for gp' crowd claims (the obvious-cleaner) that their more reliable (when something doesn't break) and the recoil is not felt as much in the rear of the gun up close to your face. I don't know what I'll end up doing and this rant probably won't even help me make my decision but I see positives in both. Oh, and another thing, will I even shoot enough to notice.. I don't know that either. Maybe the ruger will keep selling like mad and other companys will copy the design and maybe that will be the norm for gp ar's and parts will be readily available. Maybe not... maybe I just need to , go to hero-gear on or around sept 15th and if Joe has everything in that i'm looking at i'll just have to get a hotel room and mull it over:D
  25. its extremely accurate, and especially more accurate than I am. I know alot of die hard 1911 owners that love the way they shoot, only drawbacks to the black ones is the finish. it feels fantastic as well, the factory grips felt really good for little plastic grips but I felt mine needed more character the raasco's feel great as well just a little thicker. I'm not a huge fan of the factory sights (Hienne straight eights) but they work. they now make some aluminum framed 1911's which I know nothing about, but I don't particulary want to either. I know what you mean about carrying, that was a factor in considering the taurus because of the cost I wouldn't feel so guilty about scratches and what not, but now its my baby! It seems the last gun buyers guide I bought I saw an article on one and the author held a .7in group from 15 yards without the aid of a benchrest... very impressive to fit 5 shots inside a quarter from that far heck 15ft would be just as impressive to me.
