I'm picking up a new gun tomorrow & I need some shells! Zero preference, other than I'd prefer 7-1/2 shot. I'm looking to buy a case, if anyone has one, or knows of somewhere that had them in stock.

If the box mag isn't a deal breaker I can very, very highly recommend the older model Savage Hog Hunter. The newer version has a box mag, I believe, but the older model is far nicer handling & has a better feeling stock. Hands down the single most accurate factory rifle I've ever owned (I'm on my second) & both picked up for under $500

Fyi, you could add a cheap, crappy, free float handguard to your M&P for under $50. It doesn't have to be expensive.
-
The question has pretty much been answered: Cheap, bulk & milsurp ammo are NOT your friends. To get any kind of consistent accuracy with your M&P you need consistent ammunition. Either buy it & accept that it's going to be $0.50 a shot or more, or load for it. The Colt, well, you're kinda limited by your sights & eyes. I wouldn't thumb my nose at 2-3"

All 3 of my ARs are budget builds, using whatever parts I could find in sale. .223/5.56, .300blk & .350 legend. All are wearing simple 1.5-4x24 scopes & all are sub moa guns. The .350 is the only one shooting factory ammo, since I don't shoot it enough to warrant loading for it. The .300 & .223 I spent quite a bit of time on load development & don't scrimp on components. The .223 hovers around .925" at 100 yds with a 10 shot group. Not as good as it could be, I'm sure, but I only have $400 in it & it's more than accurate enough to keep me happy. I've honestly never tried a 10 shot group with the .300 but it puts 5 into +/- .75 at 100 & is strictly a <150yd hunting rifle. I think, honestly, manufacturing technology has improved so much in the last 20 years, inherently inaccurate rifles are more the exception than the rule these days. Bulk ammo manufacture though, is still purely a numbers game & the acceptable tolerance range is far, far broader. Font forget, most mil-spec ammo is passable if it will hit a torso sized target at 300. That's about 4+moa.

Got some!

Bump.

Fyi, he quoted me $200-225 for a wood stock. And yeah, I'd kinda like to watch him do it! He rechambered my Ruger .223 earlier this year & did a fantastic job of it.

Echo 3 are going to take care of it! Pillar & glass bedding, free float the barrel channel & all that good stuff.

I haven't, but they've done work for me before. I'll give em a call tomorrow.

Used, in box. Unmarked condition with fresh battery installed (old one was fine, but if prefer to sell it with a new one) $250

I have a kit already, been sitting on it for 5 builds now...... can't bring myself to do it. I can do most things & I'll attempt most of the others, but this is not me. I'm not going to lie, it scares the crap out of me. Frankly, I'm just not doing it. I need this to be someone else's job.

Once I get my barreled action back from its current rebore (rem 721) I'd really like to have it bedded into the original stock. It's never been touched before & has no current bedding or pillars. Going from .30-06 to 9.3x62 in an 80 year old rifle has me concerned......I might even need a crossbolt. I have absolutely no experience with this, I don't know where to start & frankly the entire prospect has me thoroughly intimidated to the point that I'm not prepared to attempt it myself. Can anyone here recommend someone that would do it, or if anyone has experience & would be prepared to take a run at it, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks Chris. It looks like this 9.3 is going to be hungry!

I'm going to need around 3lb, if anyone has any. I'll buy an 8 pounder, if that's my only option.

No dies yet. I'm still looking into that. I'm trying to figure exactly who makes them to CIP spec, rather than the '06 base. Thanks a lot for the load data, seems like Big Game is going to be the way forward, if I can find any! I'm really looking forward to this, it seems like the logical step up after my .358 & 9x57. I'll still need to do some work after Jesse gets it back to me (I think...) I'm undecided about adding a barrel band swivel & front sight. Purely for the aesthetics of the thing.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I've had great luck with the 220gn Speers in my .358 & 250s swaged down to .355 for my 9x57. I figured the 270 should be a good all-rounder. Hopefully they get them back out soon.

Nossir. I picked up the donor 721 from a buddy in exchange for a cheap, BCA upper for his kid's AR. It's with Jesse for the next couple of weeks getting wallered out. I'll post pics when it's done, but she ain't gonna be pretty!

Do you load for yours, or shoot factory? If you load, and are willing to share, I'd be very interested in your data. I placed an order last night for 50 pieces of brass & Prvi 286gn SP bullets. I know they're maybe not the best, but they'll give me fire formed brass & barrel break in all at the same time. I'm never going to get back to Africa, so this is purely a vanity gun. I'll hunt hogs with it & I'm sure it'll see a deer or two & I'd like to find a suitable bullet for that, but they seem oddly hard to locate. 300gn solids, however, are common as muck (and $3 each......) It's not going to be a pretty gun, that much I know. Far more Phil Shoemaker than Bors Blixen, if you get my drift.

.366 actually. It's a shame that some countries deemed .375 the minimum caliber for DG as it would appear that the 9.3 was very well thought of as a Buffalo caliber.
-
I've done it once or twice & honestly, I don't enjoy it. Having the pigs chased gets their adrenaline going & it toughens & taints the meat. Much more fun to take the gun for a walk to spot & stalk them in the thick stuff.
-
I know I can't outrun or outfight either!
-
Stalking through Texas, Florida & Georgia scrub & treating a pig hunt like a safari is as near as I'll ever get!

Anyone have any first hand experience with this cartridge? Pet loads etc. I've got an old Rem 721 out to J.E.S. currently getting rebored & chambered to it because, well, I don't have one & I occasionally like to pretend it's 1912 & hogs are elephants or buffalo.
