    Sig ARs

Hopefully, this means there will be a glut of AR clones on the market by Christmastime, and that means I can pick up a super cheap name brand black rifle.
  2. That would be my guess too. I've seen these little pet projects before in other communities, and they usually fizzle out once they find out how hard it is to perfect a design and keep costs down. And that's without having to tangle with red tape and the ATF. For 1k, I want to see some serious tests that prove to me how solid and reliable the pistol is. I mean, c'mon...if big dogs like Ruger, S&W, Sig, etc need a few months/years to work the bugs out of their new designs (LCP, M&P, P238...), how does this guy have any chance?
  3. I would say the ideal zombie killer is a Calico in .22 lr. Huge, huge HUGE mags filled with lightweight bullets. You could carry a few thousand rounds, no sweat, and a headshot with a .22 is still a headshot.
  4. Yup, third that suggestion. A bolt helps slow down a new shooter and encourage them to aim carefully without being painfully slow like an air rifle you have to pump 8 times to shoot. I have a Mark II F I got from WM for 115 and the only thing holding me back from tighter groups is the trigger. With bulk Federal 550 she'll shoot a quarter at 50 yards and a softball at 100. Not as tight as, say, a CZ452, but considerably cheaper.
  5. If anyone needs .22, Harding Place/Nolensville Road Wal-Mart had at least a dozen boxes of Federal 550 bulk.
  6. Just a quick update: I bought some used Wilson mags (Thanks again Mark) and gave them a work out. They worked flawlessly, but my stock mags have been flawless as well. Round count is now at 350. I also disassembled and cleaned the pistol for the first time. Honestly, this was the first time I've taken a close look at an A1 1911's guts. After cleaning a Colt Officer's 1911 I always thought my M645 was a close clone of the 1911, but I was wrong. I now appreciate what S&W designers were doing when they set out to build a .45, but apparently nothing is wrong with the original 1911 design. I almost cracked a mirror because I thought, "I've taken apart an Officer's model 1911, it should be the same thing" and removed the slide stop and took the slide off the frame with the recoil spring plug still in place. So I actually read the directions and learned about removing the recoil spring plug first. I also had to look into how to remove the barrel. So how do you guys feel about lube and the 1911? I just used some CLP, but I heard about people using grease on their rails. Is this beneficial? I've noticed that my slide wiggles a little from side to side now, whereas before I couldn't get it to budge a micrometer. I have an excellent array of airgun safe (because they do not dissolve O-rings or other polymers) greases which ought to be OK on a steel pistol, right? I also successfully avoided the infamous "idiot mark". Hooray!
  7. Love the Model 60. Congrats!

    CZ RAMI vs G26

I handled a RAMI a couple of weeks ago, and I thought it was closer in size to a Glock 19 rather than the 26. I could get all my fingers around the grip, as opposed to 2 fingers on the Glock 26. I was always disdainful of CZ's, but after getting a P07, I have to say that my mind has changed. They are quality firearms. I would get the RAMI, personally. Edit: After doing a little online research, I may have been mistaken about the RAMI. I may be confusing it and a CZ75 in .40sw I also handled.
  9. Check midwayusa.com or cdnninvestments I got mine from Midway for 15 each.
  10. Might have to make a midnight run to Wal-Mart in Franklin....
  11. One magazine would not feed any rounds, period. Even when the slide was racked by hand. The other would only feed intermittently, and only if it was not filled to capacity. If it had 6 rounds in it, it would refuse to feed at all. Also curiously enough, these magazines when filled would not load into the pistol correctly. They refused to lock into place unless the slide was already locked back. The 2 "cheap" factory Mustang mags I had worked fine, however. The gun itself had extraction issues. On a few occasions, a trigger pull would yield a bang but the slide would not move. Twice the recoil spring managed to jump over the guide rod and jam the pistol completely. Like, must use vise grips and mallet to unfreeze type jam. At least, that's what I assume, because I just sent it back to Sig to work on and it came back looking like somebody banged on it. Anyways, I don't appreciate being some company's lab monkey. If they want to field test their crap, they should pay somebody to do it.
  12. I received 2 certified letters. The first was in July. The second was a couple of weeks ago. It was basically the same letter, except it was addressed to me personally instead of "Sig dealer". So they have me down as a distributor and as a customer. The 1st letter asked dealers to submit info on whoever bought a 238 from them. They got info from that and from people calling in to complain about broken 238's, I guess.
  13. That's why the police hate loitering too. lol
  14. The free mag they sent me was a dud. Wouldn't even feed a single round correctly. Turns out they also replaced the original mag I had sent in with a dud too. The way it was explained to me over the phone was that they redesigned and "improved" the follower, decided it was faulty, and switched back to the original Mustang design. But, they sent me 2 bad magazines anyhow. Oh well, is how the fellow on the phone put it. Yes, oh well Sig. Oh well, I won't buy any more of your cruddy guns.

  16. I suppose I should write some positive moments with G&L salesmen too, which far outnumber the less than stellar moments. The owner at G&L has been really swell when he's around. He's hooked up some of my friends with free rental pistols and range passes before. He even let a girl friend of mine shoot for free a used USP 9mm back when they had tighter control of which used guns could be taken down to the range. Back when you couldn't get a lane there to save your life, he would give me a free range pass and tell me to come back another day when it wasn't so crowded. I mean, c'mon...that's great service. I have also had very great conversations on "how much gun is enough", and nobody was trying to upsell me or anything devious like that. Just a straight no bull conversation, strictly for my education. When I was looking at .380's, the fellow helping me out had great firsthand knowledge about perceived recoil. He actually sold me on the 238, because he swore up and down that it was pleasant enough to use as a range gun. He was absolutely right, and the 238 was as sweet shooting as he promised it would be. It just wouldn't extract reliably, but that wasn't his fault. They've always had ammo at very reasonable prices too. Can't beat that. And you get a free range pass with purchase of a pistol, which is something nobody else offers.
  17. Anyways, if I get a broken brand new gun, I would blame the manufacturer, not the gun store. Nor would I expect any gun store to do anything for me besides send it back to the manufacturer for me. I didn't think any less of G&L for not taking back the 238. I actually thought their offer to buy it back was rather generous. I just swore off Sigs forever. Well, new sigs. I still have my sights set on a German P220
  18. Look, I like G&L a lot. I have purchased 3 firearms from there, and I will likely purchase more. But, the level of knowledge of some of the staff leaves a bit to be desired. One fellow was unable to tell me if a gun had a parkerized finish because he claimed to have never heard of Parkerization before. One friend was looking at buying a compact pistol, and chose to not buy one because the salesman said, "I don't know how to break that down, I just get my boy to do it for me." If I have to look up stuff like that myself, then why pay a premium for service. On the other hand, Daniel was a pleasure to deal with. It was just a question of whether you can get him, because it's a very busy store and he's a very busy fellow. And I like that they let you test fire used pistols before you buy. That's probably why they were so helpful with your EMP, HexHead. A used pistol they can take back, but not a brand new one.
  19. I bought a P238 from G&L that had major issues. They told me to keep breaking it in. My only option was to sell it back to them for a loss of 200 or send it to Sig until they fixed it. I opted for the latter. Most manufacturers these days will send you a pre-paid shipping label for your firearm. If you're looking for a used weapon, Phil is not the man to see anyhow.
  20. My vote would be for a used Marlin 60. My buddy has one, and it's a great shooter. He bought it used for 100, but you can find them for even less if you look hard enough. He put some 70 dollar aperture sights on there and he can put down some really tight groups. Another thing you want to consider is the ammo. If you have some experience shooting, you'll be frustrated trying to shoot dime sized groups at 25-50m with bulk cheap ammo. When you get your .22, get a good variety of ammo to try out. Certain rifles like certain ammos better than others. For instance, my Savage shoots Golden Bullets way better than Federal, but my buddy's Marlin prefers Federal Bulk. All over the map with the GB's for him.
  21. I never lean on gun stores to help me with technical issues anyhow, so it's a moot point for me. When the other gun stores I've been to can't even show me how to break down a gun for cleaning, I'm not going to ask them about extractor issues or mags that don't fit right. I know what they're going to say anyways: send it back to the manufacturer. If that's what they're going to do, then why bother giving them extra money for help I don't need? I have purchased 2 pistols brand new that had issues right out of the box. Both times, the gun store was unable to help and I was directed to use my warranty with the company. Phil would do the same thing, except he doesn't charge an extra percentage. Now, if you need some hand holding and some extra BS thrown your way to buy a gun, by all means, visit some of the other fine establishments in town. I had a guy at On Target tell me that carrying on campus is only illegal if you get caught...now what kind of sales pitch is that? At Bellshire....I knew I wanted a LCP, he had a LCP, he quoted me a price that included tax, and it was extremely fair. He had it in back, did my background check, I paid, and I left with it. No muss, no fuss, just a nice straight transaction. Gun works perfectly out of the box.
  22. I used to get MREs from my ROTC buddies after they did some field training. I thought they were pretty damn good. To anyone who has had C-rations before....what are they like? I've always wondered what canned ham and eggs look and taste like.
