  1. Because I knew the movie was eye candy, it was awesome. The book was completely different and the way the story was told through the remembrances of interviewees around the world about different stages of WWZ, I knew there was NO way they could make it into a movie. With that understanding, I'm ok with what they were able to do. They kinda replicated the feel of the book by at least travelling around the world to different spots.
  2. Saiga .308 - because I fear living humans more than zombies; zombies have simple motivations Glock 19, love my high cap and ability to use extended mags Tops FB01 fireman's backup axe
  3. Greetings! Saturday was my first IDPA event and it exceeded all my expectations. I've wanted to take the plunge and start shooting IDPA mainly to increase my gun handling skills in a "stressful" situation and to do something other than stand in front of a paper target at 15yds and fire away, which gets boring. I had an incredibly great time and learned a TON about my shooting - mostly how much more work and practice I need. On that note, it was extremely beneficial to me. I was also able to bring an old comrade (Tony) from my paint balling days who also loves to shoot; I know from talking to him during and after the event he had the same excellent experience I had and is hooked and eager to attend regularly.    As for the MCTS guys and gals who hosted the event, I cannot say enough good things. As a new shooter at the event and event noobie, I was made to feel completely welcome. Everyone was extremely helpful, patient, communicated safety concerns, and just down-right good people that an excellent environment was obvious. That it was done without effort, speaks to the quality and character of the regulars we met. I left feeling confident I could bring any of my friends'n'family and know they would have the same great experience I had. Coming out to a new activity, especially a shooting event, can be intimidating. If anyone has been hesitating to attend IDPA (like me) can rest assured they will have a positive and beneficial experience with the folks of the Music City Tactical Shooters.   Thanks again to everyone who worked to put on the event and create the environment. The stages we awesome. I cannot wait to come back, shoot some more and bring more family and friends. Thanks again MCTS. I'd mention names, but I am sure I would get them wrong and miss some people.   -Kip
  4. Excellent info guys. I will definitely be there this coming 19th. See you guys there and thanks again for all the help and info to get started, I just thought I needed to be classed prior. I'll get out and shoot the 19th and do the classifier Feb 9 and should be good to go. I really looking forward to IDPA shooting - tired of standing and blasting the same target over and over.   Thanks again Kip
  5. Thanks Rickey. I didn't get out of work till 4am, so going to shoot the rest of the morning didn't seem like a good idea :-) I will be at the Feb 9th you posted. Looking forward to getting classed so I can get to shooting some IDPA.   Thanks guys Kip
  6. NVM, I looked it up on the Music City Shooters site. If I am unable to make tomorrow, when would the next classifier be? (New IDPA member)
  7. I like that the show is addressing the fact that in a zombie apocolypse, humans would be more of a threat to survival than the zombies. Humans can kill from a distance, zombies can't. Humans can also plan, zombies are more Pickett's charge type attacks.
  8. Anything that is not a chain. Why come to a city and eat somewhere you can eat anywhere? Unclejak had the best recommendations. Sambuca is awesome.
  9. I was pulled over in Springfield, TN. The officer asked if I had a gun in the car (I usually hand my CP over with my license) and I said yes, in the glove box. He asked for my license and registration. I told him that those too were in the glove box. He said that is ok. I made sure to keep my hands where he could see them and moved deliberately and slowly (not exaggerated slow) opened the box, got my stuff, closed the box. That was the extent of my dealings with the gun and the officer. I still got a ticket, but no trouble about guns. This is my third stop with a gun and no issues.
  10. I was constantly worried about the 'shirt riding up' thing as well. Now I am far less worried about it.
  11. Power grid is the thing most people take for granted. What would really be a bummer is an EMP attack or an event like the Carrington Event (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_storm_of_1859) Something like that would knock out communications and power for weeks to months.
  12. I am fuming over the AMC issue. Both shows that I want to watch are on AMC (Hell on Wheels and Walking Dead). I cannot believe Dish is doing this to their customer base. I have been seriously considering switching to Dirt or Comcast. I streamed Hell on Wheels from my laptop through an HD cable and things worked great, it just ticks me off to have to do so. I really love the DVR features with Dish. Does Comcast have something similar? Also, every commercial while streaming HOW had a "Hell on Wheels - Not on Dish" ad. Kinda mad me a little more upset each time, so I guess it worked.
  13. What scares me about the 28-days later zombies is their speed. True 'undead' zombies would freak me out more for the sheer wrongness of them. At least the 28-Days zombies are living creatures, but they would pose far more of a problem. Either way, I plan on waiting for the 28-days style to starve to death and die or the undead ones to rot away; avoiding both at all costs. However, if they tried to solve the problem with nukes like in 'Day to Day Armageddon', the radiation would kill what causes decomposition and you'd have a dead zombie, that does not decompose, and is radioactive. That would be a bummer.
  14. They are using the AQT targets to simulate a man-sized target at 500 yds. The actual range is 25 yards. They want you to focus more on actual shot technique. Like the "6 steps to taking the shot". I mostly learned how valuable the sling was in taking the shot, not dragging my finger on the stock while pulling the trigger, holding the trigger after the shot, and proper use of iron sights. It was a good course for learning good rifle skills. They also do a lot of history throughout the course, and it is a lot of fun to do with my son.
  15. I think all you are going to be able to find is Soft Point
  16. Do you use the bayonet? Or shoot without it?
  17. Have you been able to take this to the range yet? I have been thinking about the mojo site as well.
  18. Just wanted to post this info as I think this instruction is very good for rifles. I learned a lot last time I went. And women and kids are free. This is only a .22LR event though. From the site: "The Appleseed Program is designed to take you from being a simple rifle owner to being a true rifleman. All throughout American history, the rifleman has been defined as a marksman capable of hitting a man-sized target from 500 yards away — no ifs, ands or buts about it. This 500-yard range is traditionally known as "the rifleman's quarter-mile;" a rifleman can hit just about any target he can see. This skill was particulary evident in the birth of our country, and was the difference in winning the Revolutionary War." Appleseed Project Home
  19. Greetings amigos! Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I have been reading the forum for some time now and have learned a lot from you all. I love commie weapons. I shoot SKS'/AK/Mosins as well as some shotguns and of course .22LR. I love shooting the Mosins more than anything I own; they're just fun. And when you shoot it the person next to you feels it.
  20. AK/SKS/Mosin guy here comrade
