  1. The other "TR" is run my some guy named Smith. Last time I attended a course at that "TR" it was still in Texas and the best part was that my Uncle paid for it.
  2. C. Rusty Sherrick Custom Leather Works. His Tom Givens Rangemaster holster is my favorite. All of Rusty's gear is made from horsehide. Very light, but strong. Bad News is that Rusty is having some health issues and isn't accepting new orders until after 1 September, 2011.
  3. Check with Cleveland State. They run one of the states's Law Enforcement training academies that meets the requirements of the POST commission. Law Enforcement Training Academy My son graduated last September and was sworn-in with the Clarksville PD on 1 Dec. Clarksville sends a recuiter to each class, it saves them several thousand dollars hiring somebody who already has their POST. Be aware that its not a sure thing that you will be hired. In my son's case he was invited to apply at Clarksville and out of the several hundred applications, 186 began the hiring interviews & tests. Only 11 were selected - - - 6 who already had their POST. It would seem that having already attended the academy helped my son get his foot in the door, but two of his academy classmates didn't make it pass the first PT test or written exam. So, your results may be different. There is also another academy in Jackson, TN but I don't know anything about it. OH..., One last thing - - - I think my son would say that you'll need to be in VERY GOOD Shape if you attend Cleveland State. Good Luck!

  5. Yup, mine went up also. Where they killed me was the land value. There is a new retirement community 3-4 miles away from me and those Yankees from NY & Mich think that a postal stamp size lot is worth $75K. Of course the county is using sales data from 2008/2009.......
  6. You do realize that using "unique" in your comment invokes the Post a Picture Rule.
  7. John, I hear ya. Most of the factory loads out there might as well be 40S&W - - - and we all know where that round came from. Double Tap is my DE's "Service Load" when I think Big Bears might be in the woods. AND, to this Liberal Arts major..., Double Tap provides a very serious physics lesson! Feels like somebody is bashing my hands with a baseball bat.
  8. John, Don't worry I saw enough 38 Supers being rode hard in the 80s & 90s trying to make major in IPSC. Folks sure where pushing things. I still recall one fellow from Alabama who's loads had a two/three foot flame. He'd leave burn marks on close targets! Besides, I never use pick up range brass - - - Its a good way to give your firearm VD. Groups are great. One of the major reason that I became convinced that this 1911 needed some custom work. It shoots so good with the Colt barrel that I'll have to fight Chad off from touching it. One of the things he wants to do is give it a target crown flush with the bushing..., and I'm telling him NO Need To! Well..., Maybe..., Just a..., Little..., Cut to clean things up a bit.
  9. I have one and agree that the price has really, really gone up since I picked one up several years ago (and sorry but its not for sale). I think the lesson here is the ole' "Buy'em Cheap - Stack'em Deep" deal. One of these days all of those $70 Mosins will be gone. Remember all of those old $49 Turk Mausers that use to be at the gun shows.
  10. gregintenn, Here is a pic of the 1911 grips that Patrick did for me. I asked for white/gray tones with no bark and Colt medallions. I'd say he nailed it.
  11. Agree, that anniversary rollmark is a little over the top. Be careful when looking at an earlier Colt in 38 Super. There is a head spacing problem with the older Colt Super 38 barrels. They headspace on the rim of the cartridge and would often go further into the barrel when struck by the firing pin. Only the extractor would hold the cartridge in place. This caused lots of accuracy problems. It was years before somebody figured that headspacing on the case mouth like a .45 ACP was the fix. Colt would never admit that the rim headspace was a problem, but sometime in 1989/1990 they (without any announcement) went to case mouth headspace on .38 Super. Here is what to look for.
  12. I made a deal with the seller that he could keep the faux, synthetic pearlite grips in exchange for free shipping. However, if the social invite is after six o'clock (which requires "Evening Mess Dress") I go with some Grashorns made Elk Bone grip panels.
  13. Quick Update. I've always felt that a Colt should have the medallions in the grip panels. Patrick Grashorn of Grashorns Gunworks in Greeley, Co installed these for me. He also does all of my elk bone grips. www.grashornsgunworks.com Enjoy!
  14. gregintenn, looks great. Patrick has done several grips for me over the years. Here is my S&W 38/44 Heavy Duty with his elk bone stocks. He is working a couple of 1911 panels for me right now.
  15. My only 10mm is a Delta Elite. I have yet to find a "respectful" load for it that doesn't also recoil with alot of "respect." One of these days I need to try a G20, I've always heard that they are a better 10mm platform.
  16. I bet it Brings On The Pain at both ends! Well Done.

    S&W revolver crazy

carter, really don't know how big a deal it all is. I have a M581 without the M and never a problem with it. The good news is that I think S&W will pay the shipping for the recall work. So..., if you do return it you might as well have a little "custom shop" time spent on it also. Here is my 586.

    S&W revolver crazy

carter, Great buy on one of best named S&Ws..., "The .357 Distinguished Combat Magnum" Your 586 is a Nov 84 build. In 1987 S&W recalled 586 and 586-1 L Frames to install a new hammer nose. There were alignment issues with the older design. The modification was noted with a "M" stamp like one pictured below on my 586-1. If you think it needs fixing, its my understanding that S&W will still do it under warranty at no cost. S&W customer service, 1-800-331-0852.
  19. My S&W M29-2 with six inch barrel.
  20. My Retro Ankle Carry. Smith & Wesson Model 37 AirWeight. I have found that with some business suits, a S&W M36 on the belt and a M37 on the ankle still seems like a good idea in an Old School sort of way.
  21. Standard Colt short trigger of that time period. Its a early lightweight. KCC - - - Any pics before the coating?
  22. Small Hands. With a thumbs forward/high grip/riding the thumb safety, I sometimes don't disengage the grip safety on a 1911. The short trigger helps, I have then on all of my 1911s other than my Gold Cup. Also, Chad spent alot of time with me fitting the GS to ensure 100% function. I would practice my drawn stoke and then Chad would take the firearm apart, give it a couple of light passes with a stone/file and then I would make another drawn. After a couple of those test fits and Chad's final finishing work, I haven't had any problems with the GS. I think that extra work with the shooter is a good example of a true custom build.
  23. Hey Gang, Here is the link to the Gunsmithing thread. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/gunsmithing-troubleshooting/55690-kandros-customs-gunworks-38-super.html#post712204 Enjoy!
  24. Here is the Novak Super Wide Rear Sight with its .170 notch. Works great for those of us with "seasoned" and "experienced" (OK, OK - Over 40) eyesight.
