Thanks, I went ahead and bought some of the surplus stuff earlier today. I thought it was a bunch of crap but didn't want any accidents.

Now I'm just confused. I took it to the gunsmith and he said it was in great condition and should be a great shooter. Great, so i went to J Floyd s today to see what ammo they might have for it. I found all kinds of 8 mm Mauser for real cheap but I had 2 people tell me the M24 47 doesn't use the 8mm Mauser ammo that it has to be the 7.92x57 because the 7.92x57 is .318 diameter and a lighter load and the 8mm is .323 diameter and a heaver load. However I've watched these things being shot on youtube and they seem to be firing just the 8mm Mauser Ammo. Can some one please unconfuse me.

The Stock and the barrel match. I don't think the bolt matches though, its hard to see cause its almost rubbed off. I wandered about the number its marked with as well. All of them i could find online had four digit number and this one has only 3. Theres a gun smith close to my work. I think i will have it checked out just for peace of mind before i go shooting it anyway.

Thanks, That's exactly what I've got. It just didn't seem right to me that it was bigger than the bore. I'd never really thought about it. I just wanted to make sure it was safe to shoot before i went out testing it.

What can you tell me about this? I ran across it along with a Glennfield model 50 bolt action 12 gauge today for what i think was a good price and just don't know much about older firearms but would like to find out more about it. What I think I know is that it is an 8mm Mauser. The markings show M24/47. Got a couple of boxes of ammo with it and noticed the back side of the bullet seems to be wider then the end of the barrel. I never noticed this on any other firearms i owned. I probably won't shoot it much but would like to try it out. I would also like to do some research on it to see if I can track the serial number back to anything specific. I don't think its anything special but one I didn't have before. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  11. This thought crossed my mind a few times and I don't remember it being discussed here or in my HCP class. So someone is coming at you, no weapon, nothing in hand to do you any harm except them-self. Maybe someone just ticked at you or you looked at someone the wrong way or whatever and now they want a fight. I don't believe this is a situation to draw in for sure, however, my concern is that i have a pistol on me. I do not want them to get at it, nor do I want it to get loose during a physical altercation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the type going out looking for fights and haven't been in a non sporting one since high school but I would like to be prepared for any situation as I think is why most of us have our HCP. So what is the proper response to a not scared for your life situation when carrying?
  12. I was talking to my boss today and found out he is friends with my landlord. After he called and talked to him it turns out he can sell us the house and is going to do so. Thanks for the info everyone, luckily this one got fixed the cheap way.
  13. It doesn't say the purchase of this house, it says "1/2 of rent will go towards purchase of any Darrel ***** (omitted name for now) Home" The other house is at the front of the lot, we are in the back. There is around 2 1/2 acres which is this house's front yard and was implied came with the house. the other house sits on about 1/2 acre and is separated from the rest of the land by my house. We share one driveway but i was planning on changing that once we had actually bought it. My house faces the river, the other house faces the road. This photo was from google maps and hasn't been updated since the homes were built.
  14. So last August after telling our landlord that we were looking for a house to buy, she said she had something we should check out. A brand new house that she managed was available for a lease/purchase option. We liked the house so we took it. The lease we signed stated that for one year half of the rent would go towards the down payment at the end of that 1 year period. The lease also states that we can use that down payment towards any house owned by the owner because he is a contractor and builds a lot of houses around the area so if we decided we didn't like this one we could choose another. So we have lived here since last August now. The basement was unfinished so we have almost completed finishing it into 4 additional rooms. So today during a conversation with the landlord, she says oh, but you can't buy this house because it shares the lot with the house next door. If we did want to buy this house we would have to purchase both houses. So obviously I am a little frustrated. We have spent our money fixing up this house with an additional family room, two more bedrooms, and a laundry room. All this has been done with our own money. Obviously we would not have spent the money to fix up a rental house, but we were going by the lease which clearly states it is a lease/purchase agreement. I am so mad I do not even want to deal with these people anymore, I would rather cut my loses and just find a house and buy it now that I feel these people are trying to screw us over. But, "we cant move either because we would be in violation of the lease and would owe 5 months of rent + fees to break the contract." Sorry for long post. Anyone knowledgeable in this area can help I would appreciate it.
  15. I see a lot of people rag on this gun. My Dad and brother both have one of these and I think it shoots really well. Yea, the trigger is a little stiff but overall I think its a good gun for the price. They have had theirs both for a couple of years and never one FTF or FTE or any other problems.
  16. In my class the instructor had us load 6 rounds at a time and then fire one shot on command. So it wasn't timed but you had to fire when he said fire.
  17. I go anywhere from 3-6. Works well in all I've tried.
  18. +1 I've had mine for about a month now. I carry a full size SA 1911 and this holster is great with it. My old holster made driving with it on me a real pain, with the cross breed it's not an issue at all. I can wear it at any position and its always comfortable while driving or anything else.
  19. Don't remind me, it crosses my mind every now and then and I know it will come one day but i don't know how I'll deal with it. He is just turning 3 on Monday so I got awhile still, but these 3 years have went by fast.
  20. I grew up owning Labs and they are great dogs. I like German shepherds to, i had one of those when i was a kid. But this ones got me wrapped, I've never met a smarter, more loving animal, (and those labs were pretty dang smart) But i will never have anything else now that I've had an English Bulldog.
  21. Worker or not he had no right just walking in your door, I'd say you handled it pretty well.
  22. I have a friend who the Lord has led to spread his word to those who otherwise may not have heard it. He generally spends his vacations in less than privileged countries being a Shepard for God. I could tell he has been a little bummed lately and come to find out, well times are tough for everyone right now and the money just isn't there the way it has been in years past. The trip this year is planned for El Chaupi, Ecuador in mid to late February at a cost of about $1500. I contacted my friends and family and we scrounged up a little but still far from what is needed. Then the Lord laid it on my heart to help with what i did have. So I quickly threw together a website for him so that we could get the word out there to those who may be willing to help. So i thought i would put a link to it here so you guys could check it out. If the Lord leads you to donate or not, just helping spread the word would be greatly appreciated. There is also a very interesting video in the website that helps explain the need for these mission trips. Any donations will go strictly to the mission trips and not a penny to anything else. If by chance we exceed what is needed for this years trip, the extra will go towards the next trip. It looks bleak right now that we will meet the goal but I feel if i can get the word out to enough people, than the Lord will take care of what i can't. Sorry for such a long post but Thank You for bearing with me. If you have any questions on anything feel free to PM me. Soldiers For Christ
  23. I have a Springfield Armory GI 45 that seems to fit what your looking for. I love mine, its my daily carry and works flawlessly.
  24. Thanks, I'd appreciate it. All the ones I'm finding are already sold.
