  1. NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA INCORPORATED 1871 11250 Waples Mill Road - Fairfax, VA 22030 For Immediate Release For More Information, Contact: J.R. Robbins (703) 267-1415 NRA Launching Web Site Devoted To Hunters' Rights On November 1, NRA is launching a new Web site devoted to hunters' rights. All factors that affect your freedom to hunt, and the future of the sport itself, will be addressed at www.nrahuntersrights.org. The site will not tell you how to hunt, where to put your tree stand or what the best guns and loads are for your favorite species. Many Web sites and magazines can already tell you all that. The site will alert you about threats to hunting and NRA's efforts to combat them -- our direct lobbying efforts at every level, our hunter recruitment and instruction programs and our funding of conservation and range improvement projects. Commenting on the need for this site, Kayne Robinson, Executive Director of General Operations, said, "Hunting is under attack in ways it has never been attacked before. Stifling regulations are overly complex and too often have nothing to do with game management. Anti-hunting groups with well-financed coffers and celebrity spokespersons grab every headline they can get. Nit-picking laws that turn inadvertent mistakes into criminal offenses are becoming common horror stories. Shrinking lands, dwindling numbers of hunters and other factors are combining to threaten the sport more and more." But whether it's a proposed ban on hunting ammunition, the closure of public hunting lands, or regulations that are actually driving people out of the sport, NRA is at work on every front to ensure your continued right to hunt. The combination of NRA's political strength, hunting programs, grant funding and the sheer size of our hunting membership make us the most formidable defender of hunting there is. The new site will give credit where it's due, too. If a new range opens in your state, if a season is extended or added, or if a youth mentored hunt is instituted, you'll read about it at www.nrahuntersrights.org. With limited time and resources, hunters need to know about every new opportunity, place to hunt, or new season available. NRAhuntersrights.org will also provide many opportunities for hunter input and recognition. We'll be open to stories from you on a variety of topics, such as: Trophy Gallery--Share your hunting photos with others. Hunt Reports--Had a particularly good or bad experience with an outfitter? Let us know. Gut Check--Your true stories of survival. Unsung Heroes--Know someone in your state doing good work for hunters? Let's give that person some recognition. Regulatory Issues--Is there a hunting law in your state you feel just doesn't make sense? Guidelines for submitting all such material are available by sending an email to: huntersrights@nrahq.org. Just put "Hunters Rights Guidelines" in the subject line. Your questions and comments on the site are welcome at the same address. Watch for monthly gift giveaways, too.

  7. It's still just an opinion, albeit presumably a fully informed one until ruled on in a court; just need someone with lots of financial resources to test it.
  8. Anit gun Briley resigned his House Judiciary charmanship to be replaced by anti-gun Kent Coleman. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070915/NEWS0201/709150359
  9. I believe he also opposed carrying in restraurants which serve alcohol; apparently doesn't have a problem driving under the influence though.
  10. This remark and Len's are both uncalled for. It's now acceptable to take cheap shots at veterans? I'd hope for better from this group.
  11. This where the email come from: Mailing-List: list tennfirearmsassoc@yahoogroups.com That is the mailing list provided by Yahoo for the TFA members' email. While the TFALAC alerts are generated by John Harris any TFA member who has joined the Yahoo list may send to that list which is different than the alerts. You specifically accused Mr. Harris and the TFA of NRA bashing. While there were comments from TFA members stating their displeasure with Mr. Jackson John Harris has not publically addressed this issue as far as I know. Stating that the TFA director is bashing the NRA when he didn't is, at best, making disparaging remarks.
  12. I didn't get anything from John Harris on this subject and I'm on every list the TFA has. There was a forward from JPFO on this issue sent by Pat McGarrity who calls himself the Shelby county chapter director. This post on indicts John Harris and the TFA as bashing the NRA and from what I've read so far John hasn't address this at all. If I'm in error then please send me the email from John Harris addressing this subject. While many in the TFA like many on these forums may be NRA members I doubt they all agree with every statement/action made by the NRA. This is at least the second time I've read something from Mr. Waldrip that disparages the TFA for not marching in lock step with the NRA. While it is the 800 lb gorilla in the room to believe all 4 million NRA members are in total agreement with every position of the NRA is unrealistic.
  13. "Someone"? With all the calls here for leadership why not step up to the plate instead of waiting for "someone" else? I've been involved in helping two other chapters get off the ground and assisted in the planning for a TriCities chapter (It didn't get passed the first meeting). The leaders of the other chapters are more than willing to give ideas and assistance, albeit from afar for most of us.
  14. Mr. Jackson is not the NRA Director... he is a member of the Board of Directors, one of 76. He can not and does not unilaterally make policy for the NRA.
  15. While Thompson seems to be the most conservative candidate and has basically supported gun owners he is a self confessed Federalist and did support the Campaign Reform bill. One can only hope the current Fred is the one we'd get; though we thought we had a more conservative President than we got. http://www.fred08.com/Principles/PrinciplesSummary.aspx?View=Federalism

  19. BLOUNTVILLE Americans have always loved the great outdoors and hunting has long been a tradition. Taking to the field to observe the many types of wildlife and/or to hunt legal wild game is a sport enjoyed by countless numbers of our citizens. It is surprising that the fastest growing segment of our population who are taking up hunting has been women. To capitalize on this growing phenomenon, Northeast State Community College is offering an opportunity for men and women, boys and girls ages 14 and older, to learn about Whitetail deer through a non-credit class being offered during the month or September, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). The class will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in room # 226 in the Library on September 10, 12, 17, and 19, 2007. The cost for the class will only be $25 (personal check or cash). Payment and registration will be done during the first class period. A wide range of topics will be covered during the class, including the history of deer, deer biology, restoration, deer hunting techniques, equipment, and hunting safety. Speakers will include biologists from the TWRA and experts in the field of deer hunting. The class enrollment is limited to 20 people, so reserve your seat now by calling Angela Huddle at 354-2508 or emailing her at adhuddle@northeaststate.edu.If you are age 14 or older and want to learn about the exciting world of deer hunting, this is the class for you. Remember to sign up now and bring a friend. Northeast State Community College is located at 2425 Hwy. 75, Blountville
  20. Bare in mind that the AG's opinion is just that... an opinion. Which of us has the time and money to be the test case in court?

  22. In addition to those speakers/topics I mentioned previously we've also had the local trap club speak on the Scholastic shotgun program (Morristown teams have done well) and a speaker for Cowboy Action shooting. As I said the possibilities are many. We try to touch on all aspects of the shooting sports. We had an ICE agent whom I'd hope would address firearms import laws but the TN office has little to do with importation and wasn't prepared to speak on that. He did talk about immigration which is a hot topic thus bringing in a group to listen that might not have otherwise attended one of our meetings.
  23. What: TFA Knoxville Chapter "Bring your own food" Picnic and Shoot (If you want to eat, bring it with you) When: Sunday August 19 1PM to 6PM Where: Loudon County FOP 21 Range off "Camp Rest Road" in Lenior City. Who: TFA members, families, and friends may attend. NOTICE: ALL SHOOTERS SHOOT AT THEIR OWN RISK. Please attend the 1st Annual Knoxville Chapter "Bring your own food" Picnic and shoot. This is being help with the blessing of the FOP 21 Lodge in Loudon County. We will have access to the 50 yard range (outside) so this will give you a chance to actually shoot those carry guns you have gathering dust in your holsters. We may also try to set up one or two IDPA/USPSA type stages. THIS WILL NOT BE A COMPETITION. This will be a "just for fun" shoot. We will be using "paper bag" stationary targets. Round count depends on how much you want to shoot. I would suggest 100 rounds. If you like to fish you may also bring a fishing rod. The FOP lodge is located on the Tellico Lake. There are a few picnic tables but I would suggest bringing a chair. Directions: From Lenior City. Take Hwy 321 across the Tellico Dam. When 321 Turns to a 4 lane in around 1/2 mile you will see a Church and the Volunteer Fire Department on the Left where you will turn between them onto "Antioch Church Road" follow it to "Camp Rest Road" or may now be called "McGhee Road" Follow this road and you will see the FOP 21 Sign (very small) where you will turn left onto the Gravel road right beside a house. You will come to the gate. The gate will not be locked just open it and shut it back. Come down to the end of the gravel road and you will be there. 24. I worked with the fellow who tried to start a chapter up there. I cohost the Lakeway chapter (Morristown) and it was not an automatic full attendance. The most we've had was 45 with the Morristown Chief of Police and then there was a meeting when no one showed up Much depends on getting the word out and who you get as a speaker. Use the community calendars of the various media for free notice; put up flyers where the gun owners go. I offered a mailing list to the last organizer which was to be paid for by the TFA; it was not used. When we met there were about 5 of us, including me and my bride. About the same when the Lakeway chapter first met. If it were not for my wife we would have never met again. Our speakers have been state legislators/candidates (particularly just before an election); gun shop owners; LEOs from local police, sheriff, State Troopers; Don Dare from TV channel 6 (Knoxville); TWRA, the options are limitless. Our meetings are held in the Shoney's Family restaurant and open to the public, i.e., TFA membership is not required. I fairly certain none of the chapters' meeting are closed to the public. If you, perhaps with an acquaintence, desire to start a chapter up there contact me at bentcreek@outdrs.net and I'll do what I can to help you get it going.
