I'm no expert but if you keep it away from moisture and dry, it should last a long time. I don't know for sure how long though.

Love my S&W sport. ( in my avitar). My first AR as well. Very nice gun for a beginner ( first time AR owner) plus you can easily customize it later on down the road. Problem will be feeding it though.

Marine Corps helicopter pilot sues over Wyo. traffic stop
Wyldk2 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
IMHO, The first responder needs to refresh himself on the laws in his state. Each state is different and i understand it might be hard for one who enforces those laws to remember every one. Both sides could have acted a bit better i do agree, But it seems like the Initiating leo didn't need to handcuff the rider. It's good that the rider( marine pilot) did record this encounter or we might not have gotten his side of the story. Here in Tennessee it probably would have gone another direction. Because in this state you are required to let the officer know of any firearms on your person or in the vehicle. Just to save a hassle, it's best to hand your permit with your license and registration. Luckily( knock on wood) i have not had a such encounter with police. I don't usually open carry, but i have not been stopped by police since having a gun permit either. Yes, i'm either that good at driving or my vehicle looks like a LEv. -
I'm sure my story is nothing new. But it's an unsolved accident report. This happened about 10 years ago when i was still living in Tullahoma and working for Lowe's. My mother was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Normandy lake( Blanton chapel road or Riley Creek road) right before the hill and turn up beside the lake. She actually had to get all the way in the shoulder to try to avoid the oncoming vehicle. Which if he had been over a foot more, my mother would not have survived and instead of facing a hit-and-run he would have faced a vehicular homicide charge. The only thing is, this d-bag never was caught. Either he was Illegal or drunk or both. The main reason why he wasnt caught is there is there was very little cellphone coverage and beings it's not a well-travelled road, my mom had to wait a while for another motorist to come by. And the sheriff dept up there could only do so much at that time. I hope there is a special place in Hell for those types of people who don't care about killing someone because they are too drunk to be behind the wheel. Luckily my mom survived that incident. I'm thankful for the motorist who stopped to help.

The big question - concealed or open?
Wyldk2 replied to Pat's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As for the OP, sometimes suprise is better than out in the open, sometimes having it out in the open can stop a problem from occurring. It's all about how one prefers to carry their firearm. I personally prefer Concealed for my day to day carry, but out on the trails or kayaking or fishing, i like mine out. Riding fourwheelers, it keeps the drunks from wanting to start something. -
I agree on the uselessness of the windowed mags in a firefight. But when do you think we'll ever be in a firefight here in the states? anytime soon? It's all about function over form for me, the windowed ones are nice to have if you're worried about the ammount of rounds you have( as if someone can't count). But i've seen even these mags with the built in counters selling for $24 a piece. Nowa friend tells me they( magpul) are coming out with reinforced pmags, to replace these ones so to speak. Probably those will be right at $20. but $10 a pop i think i'll stick to these "older" ones.
-
The warning points thing is new to me though, this is the only forum i'm on where they are present ( which i have zero).

Think I'm going to order a couple flat dark earth and maybe 2 more black ones( non-windowed).

Seriously....whole AC units being stolen!?!
Wyldk2 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree, It would definately make these fly-by night scammers think twice. -
Glad to hear you like that site( manventureoutpost). Did a price match just now with that SWFA site and hoping they better the deal. I don't need a whole lot of mags, just thinking about getting at least 5 maybe 10 and sell off what i don't need. Replacing my metal old bushmaster magazines with the new plastic magazines. That "FTL" code stands for Free Talk Live. Look that up if you want a non-bias political show.

Seriously....whole AC units being stolen!?!
Wyldk2 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
With the price of copper going up and the unattended hvac units just sitting there. It's an incentive for these dirtbags to steal. The business next door to where i work was hit over the summer. ( since their A/C units are on the other side of the building and out of sight from anybody, nobody was aware of the theft until the owner tried to turn on the air for his business( which is an indoor skating rink). The thieves hit all 3 of his units and i'm sure it cost him a pretty penny to replace them. SInce then, we have had the Fayetteville PD do more patrols and everyone is more observant now. When my dad had his house built ( after a fire back in 2009) he had the AC/heating unit put under the house. The only way they can get at it is thru a hardened lock, and then they would have to get by the neighbors and their dogs. -
This before the age of lawsuits and the mommy state. I used to live in Tullahoma, i never felt threatened by a stray dog. Most of those "owned" dogs were friendly if they got loose and had tags. There was an exception to this once that i remember. Since we lived on the edge of town( backyard bordered the city line) we had one neighbor that had a "pit-bull" or similar dog, which scared the crap out of my mom when it came up on her as she was sunning herself in the yard. I remember dad scaring it off, and calling the owner to complain. We didn't even have a fire-arm back then, only a bb gun and a slingshot. I think I was maybe 10 or 12 at the time. It happened again and mom called animal control. But what could they do when the dog would wander back over the line to home. Think the owner was renting the property behind our house and dad knew the landowner. Voiced the complaint and the Dog owner moved sometime thereafter. But here in the county, ( even if i lived in the city) if any animal was threatening my life or the lives of my family, you betcha i would not hesitate to use deadly force to stop the animal. ( i mean animal as any animal has the ability and unpredictability of an attack.) I don't have a dog, but a cat, who knows what she is thinking while lurking in the bushes or behind the sofa. I would hate to kill anyone's pet though.

I've found a few online. On Amazon.com and Manventureoutpost.com. I'm sure you can find them about anywhere though. I'm in no hurry to get one right now. But if i find a good deal i will let you and everyone else know.

I have been told to look into a surefire. you can get a lower end model for around 80-100. Which i am looking for one myself.

Not just musketsand flintlocks i've seen in this show. but if you watched the episode where we meet the General Monroe at his camp, notice his personal guard with HK Automatic rifles. Apparently some haven't been paying as close attention to the show. Ilike it, it's a much better alternative to watching one of these over-rated boring reality shows. Now getting stoked for the 3rd season of The Walking Dead. Unfortunately i don't have AMC, guess i'll have to get my dad to DVR it.

I was there yesterday. Didn't buy any guns but was unimpressed by the lack of AR accessories. There were a few but i walked away with a green/red recticle scope and a range bag. $599 is really high for a shield. Those looking ought to check Hero Gear, call them and get on their list. ( OTD price around $400).
-
It depends what dealer you get it from. call around, see if anyone has them in stock. if they have some sort of deal with S&W, then their pricing might be less than others. I onlky had to wait a week for mine. Hero Gear had them in stock for $357 +tax and background check( $400) total. Other places I priced before had them for around $450-500 and you had to get put on a list. Best to be guaranteed a shield is to get your name put on a list at several shops. Be sure to tell them if you want a 9mm or .40.

http://www.manventureoutpost.com/categories/Firearm-Accessories/Magazines-%26-Loaders/AR/ Has the non windowed magpul 30 rd magazines for $10.18, and the windowed ones for $12.50 Use code "FTL" for an extra 5% discount.
-
Took my 9mm shield to the range last sunday ( like it better than my .40 Glock) . Shot a friend's shield in the .40, and noticed it a bit on the snappy side. If you're ever wanting one, Hero Gear in Winchester has them for $357.00 + tax and the Background fee. I checked a few other places before i got the deal from HG.

Yes, the Go pro camera is one of my faves. I have the 1080 hd original hero and it works great out on the trails. I ride mostly atvs but there is a chest harness you can get for the go pro instead of worrying abouta helmet. (i wear a helmet though). Iasked for one for christmas one yearand before christmas i found a smoking deal on www.woot.com for one for about $125. Couldn't pass it up then. Has been a great camera since.

Dropped the magnifier, but have sighted the Barska red dot to 100 yards accurate. Put maybe 500 rounds thru it with the barska on it and not a problem. ( except for a friend leaving the scope on and draining the batteries) those aren't cheap, but i know where to get batteries on ebay cheap. Put a Bipod on mine and it's about ready, now for just the look i'm looking for an inexpensive flashlight and mount for the AR.
-
The s&w M&P sport was my first foray into the AR rifle line. My first real rifle ever i might add.( have, and started out with a winchester 10-22). I did a lot of research and just read the posts before i bought mine back in February of this year. All I added to it was a set of rails, an adjustable foregrip, a Bipod and a Barska red-dot acog sight. Think i spent around $700 for the gun, and about $250 in accessories. Not a bad deal for under $1000. Ammo was extra. Rifle is sighted at 100 yards with the acog. So far i've put over 500 rounds thru mine ( target shooting) and haven't had any problems with the gun. S&W really makes a quality product for the money.

Do you ever see other people carrying?
Wyldk2 replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
They better hope they never get searched. -
Gander Mountain and most big name sportinggoods stores should have what you're looking for. If not, you could always look into ordering online for something more specific. otterbox and Pelican both make sturdy, waterproof storageboxes. But you mentioned a waterproof bag or pouch. You might be better to check the kayak department or a speciality boating store. There are compression sacks that we use for our kayaking trips ( i keep one stocked in my atv for stuff i want to keep airtight till i need to use it). These are the ones that are foldable and waterproof pouches which have a D-ring on the clasp area. Always have best luck at www.rei.com
