    5.7 Pistol

I'm still a believer in making bigger holes. Pistol ammo incapacitates by either hitting a major nerve bundle or letting lots of blood out. A larger diameter bullet has a greater chance of achieving one of those goals. Of course, I also still believe Jeff Cooper's maxim that the purpose of a pistol is to let you fight your way to a rifle or shotgun.
  2. I have not tried to get a reproduction Mauser stock to fit. My original Mauser stock looks like it 'could' be made to fit. I may have to get one of the repro stocks to play with when I have a couple of hundred dollars I can't find another use for!
  3. I'm jealous as I do not have a stock for mine! A Mauser stock just barely won't fit! Do not use Tokarev ammo as it's loaded to a higher pressure. PPU 7.63 Mauser ammo runs great in mine.
  4. So, you never mentioned if you were actually using NATO-spec ammo. Normal US ammo is lower power than NATO-spec, which would result in failure to eject and double feeds. Get some real NATO-spec ammo and try that. NATO-spec is 124gr at about 1200fps from a 4" barrel. It's about halfway between normal 115gr US ammo and +P ammo. Winchester makes it, and US military surplus has sometimes been available. Foreign military surplus is usually NATO-spec, too.
  5. Energy stocks are a good buy. The market has not yet picked up on what deregulation will do for coal, oil, and nuclear stocks. Add in that coal ash now shows signs of having rare earth elements, and it looks good to me.
  6. I would have liked to see a real 1911/1911A1 included as the GI firing pin spring is stronger than the 'high dollar' copies.
  7. I have a Suzuki VStrom 650. It's a 2011 with ABS and 78,000 miles. The Suzuki 650 v-twin engine is incredibly reliable, pulls strong, and is suitable for the interstate. It's never given me any problems, and I haven't had to do anything except routine maintenance. I used mine for commuting until I retired. It's quick and agile for in-town riding, and can carry plenty of gear for off-roading or a trip if you're interested in that. I had a lot of fun with trips into the mountains, riding fire roads and jeep trails. You should be able to pick up a used 650 VStrom in your price range. FYI, A good resource to test-ride used bikes is: https://www.riders-share.com/listings/memphis-tn/dr03-16-2025,03-16-2025/z9/p1/ Rent a bike for a day or two and see if it suits you. If you get over east of Nashville any time soon, you can test ride my VStrom.
  8. A little bit of drop testing on popular modern pistols:
  9. After 9 posts with "me", it's time to change it up!!
  10. Ooops, I didn''t see the 'C'. You're right.
  11. Very nice early 1911!! The serial number places it towards the end of 1913. US military firearms do not number every part like Germans. Typically, a US military firearms has the serial number on the frame or receiver, and manufacturers codes on some other parts. This is a military contract pistol. A Colt letter could tell you who it was shipped to, but not where it was issued. Most Colt 1911s were shipped to Springfield Arsenal, and distributed from there. The Navy contracts were shipped differently. Proofhouse is a useful site for this type of lookup. They have a lot of other interesting information as well. https://proofhouse.com/colt/index.html
