  1. Pre-safety Marlins are the best lever actions ever made. Great field rifle and with a little care will be appreciated by your grand-kids.
  2. Nothing new to anyone who bothered to look into Chinese policy would realize that they believe they have been at war with the US for at least 50 years. Not a shooting war, but they have been very active in subversion, spying, stealing technology, and buying influence.15 years ago I worked with some folks who were former NSA. We were in Dulles airport and they were pointing out the Chinese agents who were following congressional aides and other folks and listening in to bluetooth cellphone calls and copying data from their laptops. I was amazed at how clueless our people were. Nobody seemed to have any sense of worry that the information they were freely mentioning in their calls was being monitored. Just listening to the one side of the conversation you could hear as those idiots loudly talked on their phones was enough to let me know that they were saying things that really should have been controlled. It was no surprise to me to learn that thousands of Chinese Communist Party members were in high-level positions in our industry, research, and government.
  3. As stated above, target pistols are designed around standard velocity ammunition. Since .22 pistols are all blowback operated, the only thing keeping parts from slamming together during operation is a little spring. Overpower that spring and bad things happen as metal parts hammer against each other. Rugers are built like tanks and a little .22 is not going to damage them. Most target pistols are not as strongly built. Another piece of advice; any .22 pistol designed prior to ww2 will also probably not do well with anything more than standard velocity. Keep your prized Colt Woodsman or Target fed on Standard Velocity only. Finally, the reason target pistols are currently designed around standard velocity ammunition has to do with the inherent accuracy of bullets that do not exceed the speed of sound. When a bullet travels past the 'sound barrier', it goes through a shock wave. If it loses velocity before reaching the target, it goes through that wave again. Depending on muzzle velocity, and other factors, that second passage can happen in as few as 25 yards. Passing through the shock wave can disturb the path of the bullet slightly. Bullet design has a huge factor on how much this occurs. Typical round-nose .22 bullets tend to be more affected than sharp spitzer bullets.
  4. Henry has both. But the Solothurn was the star of the show. Rumors of a sequel have been around for many years. If it's going to happen it better be soon. John Ross is not particularly healthy.
  5. We did NOT roll over in 1986!!! There were many court cases raised about this over the years. Some were actually won in Federal District Court. But the other courts ignored the few wins and the Supreme Court declined to comment. The fix was in and the NRA has never been a friend to NFA owners. The same thing happened in 1994. The NRA rolled over after the 10 year sunset was added. Then they claimed victory in 2004. There are NO gun laws that are Constitutional. Period. Yes, I follow the laws. The cost of not following them is much higher than I am willing to pay. I suspect that is true of a very large number of folks. Sadly, time is not on our side as we are getting older and the newer generations appear mostly willing to accept whatever infringements government imposes.
  6. If you can get your guns and your ammo in a safe, you don't have enough guns OR ammo!!!
  7. Yep "free money YOU don't have to pay back". Instead, like all government grants, that money came from the taxpayers. I'm glad your son is a productive taxpayer now. So, in one sense, he IS paying it back. Government has no business making loans. It's vote buying at it's most blatant.
  8. A lot of us are getting up in age faster than we realized. It's a shame that we sometimes don't realize how fortunate we are to have folks like Steelharp among us until it's too late. He's gone home just in time to be part of the Christmas Band!!
  9. I sent the below letter to the President's office: Should the President have to leave office, there are several actions he can legally take to correct injustice. I will detail one such below. In 1968, Congress passed the Gun Control Act changing the rules regarding legally-owned weapons registered according to the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA). As part of that change, the law allows for the government to have periodic Amnesties, where these firearms may be legally registered. Currently, an Amnesty is the only way for such firearms to be legally registered. No such Amnesty has occurred since 1968. The amnesty period statute (section 207(d) of the GCA) is codified in United States Statutes at Large (Volume 82, 1969, page 1236), as follows: "The Secretary of the Treasury, after publication in the Federal Register of his intention to do so, is authorized to establish such periods of amnesty, not to exceed 90 days in the case of any single period, and immunity from liability during any such period, as the Secretary determines will contribute to the purposes of this title." The BATF&E is now part of the Justice Department, not Treasury. As such, the President can direct the Justice Department to declare a 90-day NFA Amnesty, allowing the many owners of NFA firearms to make their firearms legal for the first time since 1968. Others may want to do so as well. I can imagine heads exploding if President Trump declares a 90-day NFA Amnesty!!
  10. They did not sell well as they were an odd duck of a firearm. I had one of the normal pistols back in the early '80's. I got lots of practice with malfunction drills! If you ever get one, they work best with standard velocity .22s. If it had a shoulder stock, it would have been a Short-Barrelled Rifle, with the necessary NFA forms and $200 transfer tax. That would have guaranteed that they sold a lot fewer than 6000!
  11. Original M1 carbines are all well over $1000 these days. If you see one for less, snag it! I fired a friend's new Inland M1 carbine. Seems reliable and solid. Inland says parts interchange with original GI parts. That's a big plus for me.
  12. IF, you have a Manufacturer SOT license, you can make them for yourself, for other dealers, or agencies. Renting a MG as part of a range is a legitimate business. Almost all rental MGs are post-86 samples.
  13. Prior to this year: Pistol & SMG - 10-12,000 per year Rifle & MG - 3-5000 per year .22 - 10,000 per year.
  14. The only submachine gun actually used in WW1. Fortunately for the Allies, it was too little, too late to make a difference. Made to use the Luger snail-drum magazines. Those mags are fragile, complicated, and the couple of times i've loaded one it took me about five minutes using the loading tool. Still a seriously cool looking weapon!
  15. Has anyone else been watching the Hallmark channel's Christmas movies? My wife and I have been enjoying them instead of watching the insanity every night. It's been refreshing to actually hear people sing actual Christmas carols, refer to the 'reason for the season', and be generous and kind. We know it's pure fantasy. But where else can you see entertainment that isn't cruel, evil, or liberal crap?
  16. There should be visible markings to tell you if it's a m1917 or a rare and desirable Remington Model 30. Either way, it was definitely re-barrelled. I don't know much about the .280 cartridge other than a brief read on the 'net. But the M1917 or 30 action is VERY strong and will allow very heavy loading of the cartridge.
  17. If you look at the pintle under the front of the receiver, you can see that the gun is just balanced up there. The belt also looks like it's just laying across the top of the receiver, not being fed into it. Totally staged.
  18. Want to bet that they are all 'Felons in Possession'? Kind of makes other points moot.
  19. Pure pose. He's got lots of room. I'm more interested in the Soviet kids doing final assembly of PPD40 submachine guns! Cool photo.
  20. Interesting information on expected life. For comparison, my CZ75b has over 55000 rounds through it. I've replaced a firing pin, slide stop, and recoil spring. Barrel looks like it's about ready to be replaced. I'm not a fan of the 40 short and weak. All the penetration of the 45, and stopping power of the 9mm. And newer 40 is even downloaded from the earlier ammo. I do like that most 40 pistols can be easily changed to .357Sig. My Glock 23 has that setup, and was cheaper than buying a Glock 32.
  21. This is Independence Day, which falls on July 4th. We are not celebrating a date. We are celebrating our creation as a new country, separate from Great Britain. Our forefathers fought TWO wars to create and retain that independence. Both took an enormous toll in lives and property on a sparse and relatively poor population. Appropriate movies for today are: April Morning, 1776, Mister Smith goes to Washington, The Patriot, and the HBO series on John Adams. I would ignore the Disney movie 'Hamilton' as it is politically-correct, revisionist history. There have been some excellent documentaries about the American Revolution. If you can find the one History Channel did in the '90's, it was pretty good without bowing to the PC crowd. There is an absolutely awful movie called Taking Liberty that was a pilot for a proposed TV series. It is notable only as it has David Ogden Stiers as Benjamin Franklin, the adorable, beautiful, and sweet Sophie Ward (sigh) as the female lead, and a a couple of amusing scenes involving a handsome and dashing British Highland soldier (me).
  22. Trying to reason with that kind of person is useless. Like wrestling with a pig; 'you get tired and muddy and the pig has fun'. A LONG time ago I had a friend who owned a successful sandwich shop. Difficult customers got a dab of Wasabi on their BLT or Monte Cristo. Really difficult customers were refused service and shown the door. You probably couldn't get away with that today.
  23. I've had a C&R for well over 20 years. I've never had a problem shipping or receiving. A C&R license IS a category of Federal Firearms License. And FEDEX and UPS ship handguns 2nd Day Air at much lower cost than overnight.
  24. Czech VZ26 Light machine gun. Later refined into the British BREN gun.
  25. WW1 German anti-tank rifle - T-Gewehr
