  1. A word of caution, 1st I'm no expert on Winchester Model 70's. How does the rifle shoot now, does it shoot good groups off a bench? Your more common hunting rifles are just screwed into a wood stock and have specific factory designed pressure points in the forend area, thus not all barrel are free floated. As a general rule free floating a barrel requires bedding of the action to the stock and then relieving the barrel channel (removing wood from around barrel). It is possible that if you remove a designed stock pressure point you will ruin the stock and ruin the degree of accuracy you now have. To do a floating barrel properly you need to pilliar bed the action and relieve the barrel channel. I would not recommend just removing forend pressure points by themselves.
  2. To each his own, the Kobra Carry is an excellent choice, I personally perfer traditional diamond checker on the front strap.
  3. Not sure that I would get rid of my M4 ( I'm older than you) I do like shooting it. However I do understand and I think you would be very happy with an Ed Brown Custom. I don't believe they have it any longer, but Outpost Armory had a Stainless Executive Carry that was quite bewitching a few weeks ago.

    No argument here......

    2nd TRS

Congrats on the new Baer, hoping to get my TRS back from having some work done soon. Ain't nothing like a Baer, nobody really understands this unless you have or had one.
  6. You should be able find a good used S&W 4 inch barreled .38 or .357 pretty resonable. I'd go this route for a relatively inexpensive, reliable and quality home defense revolver. I wouldn't consider a 9mm revolver a must and speed loaders are cheap and plentiful for most K-frame S&W's.
  7. That's where I checked the prices, I misunderstood, didn't know you were put off by the high prices. I doubt you would be put off by the end product. At a certain point there are no steps up, you just have to jump...lol.
  8. So I went out to Baer's web site, Full retail prices: Premier II $1790 Custom Carry Blue $ 1830 Stainless $1890 a Thunder Ranch Special $1990. If you talk to dealer and they order for you I doubt your going to pay full retail. This is part of the research you need to do and don't be afraid to talk price with a dealer. I would much rather spend 2 grand on a Baer as oppossed to a Kimber. As for being crazy yeah I've been told that, but you mentioned 2K in your original post so I don't understand the surprise at the pricing.
  9. Contray to popular opinion, I try and run a light and fast bullet out of a snubby. You lose a lot of velocity out of a short barrel and expansion with heavier bullets is hit and miss. Winchester use to make a 95Grn. Silver tip +p that would expand to .62 Caliber reliably out of snubbies, luckily I bought a bunch before they were discontinued. I still carry those when I carry my Airweight and i just purchased some Hornady 110 +p Critical Defense to try. I don't think you are going to get enough velocity to promote reliabe expansion with JHP 125Grn or heavier bullets. Of course opinions are like arm pits, everybody has a couple.
  10. G&L in Greenbrier carries Wilsons and Browns as well as a few Nighthawks, Out Post Armory off I-24 exit 89 carries Wilsons, Browns and I've even seen a Baer or 2 in there before. I agree that there is definately a lack of high end 1911's carried in shops around here.
  11. Personally, if your thinking of dropping 2K on a 1911 there are much better options out there than Kimber. Les Baer, Wilson, Ed Brown, just to name a few. Do a lot of research before you put that much hard earned cash down on any firearm.
  12. Well after seeing the names of some of the attendees, might be more appropriate to call it the "Memphis Open Disarmament Forum".
  13. Having grown up there, have family that still lives there and I still visit occasionally. They are not pulling your leg, that's the thing about Memphis, Bartlett, Shelby County in general, there is no safe place. Get your permits, get some training, and be diligent at all times.
  14. Oh well...probably the reason we have so many anti-gun laws today. Someone decided someone else shouldn't own a gun for whatever reason. See we can and will be our own worst enemies...and I'm aware this thread was in jest, I just thought I'd point out the obvious.
  15. 6.8.. I'm sure it was posted in jest...though I'm not the one that would need convincing. Personally I always thought the Idea of a viper pit was worth looking into.
  16. TN law states you can't do intentional harm to a tresspasser, such as placing traps etc. If you think a piece of auto glass is expensive, think about the repercussions of placing a trap. I feel your pain, it really makes you mad when you work hard for what you have an some lowlife steals or vandalizes you property. Also if considering some course of action that might be questionable, I don't think I would post about it on a public forum.
  17. That's a really nice Model 64 and at a good price, I've been on the look out for a good used Model 65 but haven't come across one I like yet. I'll make time to check out both of these shops in the near future. Good luck with your purchases.
