  1. In that case, the Ruger would probably be one of the best for introducing the wife and who ever to target shooting.
  2. As for me, after owning a 17HMR now for several years, the Mach II just seems like a has been. But it sounds like you are a bit of a collector within the rim fire school of higher learning, sooooooooo, go for it. Sorry, that really doesn't help answer you question.
  3. Like Vontar, I had picked out the Ruger, 22/45 Mark III with 5.5" bull barrel, but kept being drawn toward the Walther. After much deliberation, I went with the Walther and am glad I did. But still, the Ruger has a great reputation, nice target piece. You will like it, except for the cleaning routine.
  4. CA is going bankrupt and the Feds are already bailing them out in subtile ways using our money. They need to be engaged in their own internal problems instead of what is happening in AZ
  5. My guess is the robber took all his valuables includig his gun. The right to open carry is great, but I seldom do. Most times when I am on the river fishing or otherwise in the great outdoors.
  6. Remember, women don't think like us guys. If the gun is too this or that, they will not carry at all, Period! And there it will sit on the night stand. Things like racking the slide can be a issue, afraid it will pinch them. I haven't owned a revolver in years but can be a place to start. And can't say enough about practice, practice, practice. Become very familiar with it, frequently. I purchased a Walther P22 only to make it fun and to run thru self-defense drills. That has worked great. The wife will go thru 100+ rounds while I just play coach and take care of the targets (private property range). Good luck.
  7. The LCP is geared for a very different market, it is a sub-compact. The Walther is not, very different set of features. 6 vs 8 rounds, quality of sights, trigger, slide lock on last round, ambidextrous everywhere, single action option, tactical rail............
  8. Ouch! Sounds like one of the penalties of being a sub-compact and lightweight.
  9. A friend will be getting to know their new Keltec Pf-9; so what would be a good low pressure/low recoil round for break in? Breaking in the shooter, not so much the new gun.
  10. I'm familiar with those products and have used them in my pond along with other products. I have bass, bluegil, carp, red-eye. If a product is likely to kill the fish, it will be stated clearly on the label. And yes, it is expensive.
  11. There is also a Virginia Gun Owners Forum which I visit from time to time. I don't like the touch and feel of the site, seems a little dated, but the nice people there can answer most any Virginia related question.

    .22 Plinker?

I love my Walther P22. I bought it new in October and it now has about 300 rounds thru it with never a jam. The wife really loves to shoot it. I'm glad I passed on the Sig Mosquito, just too many bad reports.
  13. It's all about trout here in the eastern part of the state. Been using a Kayak for the last 3 years and that has been a blast!
  14. Yes, Tom & Brian offer excelent input without being over bearing. Good selection, good atmosphere. Willing to work with you.
  15. And his friends want it in Alabama and Georgia.
  16. Yes, I saw Winchester target loads at Walmart last weekend, $35 for 100. AND, a couple days later the same Wamart (Bristol) had Remington JHP, $18 for 50 I think. I've had a 380 for years and I think the pipeline is soon begining to fill. I don't know why the drain on 380, supply and demand but why no supply. I always thought of it as a 'red-headed-step-child' round that did not move much. But the amount of people buying them has really took off. Most of them are really not a range gun and will not get shot much.
  17. Other life forms? Maybe. Being able to make the trip? I don't believe it. I vote "No"
  18. Google the term "Insurance Exchange" and learn what that will encompass. By 2014 that is where we'll be. The fear is, current insurance prividers will be required to accept everyone regardless of health condition AND do it at a low price as set by the feds. Sounds like a good thing; but insurers will drop out of the health coverage market, leaving only the government. "Single Payer"
  19. Sometimes in the machining process, iron (fe) deposits will become embeded at the surface on stainless steel. It is actually these iron deposits that rust, not the base material itself. A simple acid etching process called 'passivating' will take care of this. For a steel to qualify as stainless it has to have 10.5% or more chromium (cr) added to the pot. The more chromium, the more resistance to oxidation. Brushed stainless or nickel looks great with the stainless being the more durable.
  20. If there were lots of good paying jobs and reasonable benefits, there would be no crisis. And with no crisis, they (DC politicians) could not pass this stuff. So, why would they want there to be good jobs unless it is for union or other special interest that is in their back pocket!
  21. I like the question, but don't know the answer. It's too early to tell. The bill is way too big, too complex and people are just now starting look at its impact. It was rushed thru and includes many back room deals to secure the votes. AND, congress promised they will continue to tweak it with additinal bills as the contents become more clear. They told us it wasn't perfect but that it was something to start with.
  22. Media.......Media........Media!!!!!!! The media will run with the stories of death threats and vanalism, etc.....and frame the Washington politicians as victims. It will be hyped up like something has to be done to protect these poor public servants. Those who dissent will be demonized and framed as violent but what could be more violent then the destruction unborn innocent via abortion; Or throwing the erderly under the bus? And if the media finds no incident to report on, they will make one up.
  23. For me the issue is rust. I like the Nickel. The last new semi-auto I purchased was with the nickel slide. Next down on my wish list of new guns is in nickel when it becomes available. And I like the look on most guns.
  24. A search of YouTube will show some hand gun drills. One that's fun for all is a variation of the "el presidente" which is a timed event. We use 2 litre soda bottles because they are reactive. Stand two bottles at 3 yards away and say 10 feet apart. Stand two more behind that at 7 yards, then two more at 10 yards (considering skill of shooters). Engage the closest target first "point shoot". Since it is a double tap like "el presidente" your eye and hand will have to follow a moving target. If you hit the bottle on the first shot the bottle will fall or flip or go left or right and you'll need to react to hit it again. Six shots, reload six shots again. My wife runs thru it in about 23 to 25 seconds with her Walther.
