  1. My friend, a retired Captian from the Sherrif's Department, thinks he can carry legally in most every state and that open carry is something only Texas has. Various other things tells me he has not kept up with recent changes. How does all this work for retired and off-duty?
  2. Ah Yes, the ever inconvient road block. Kind of like stop signs and speed limits. I hate being told what to do while I'm on the road. But seriously, I don't mind 'em. I don't find "right to drive" in the constitution. I think of it as a privilege I qualify for. And I hope when I'm 85 amd half blind I no longer qualify. I hope they take my privilege so I don't kill someone. Same for those people who loose their privilege due to DUI, but somehow those people continue on the road thinking it is their right to drive regardless.
  3. Titans Rock! You Loose! nice pics though Next week Denver takes on the Packers, whats your predictions, we'll see if your accuracy improves
  4. Try Shooter Edge in the Piney Flat industrial park. It is a new facility and continues to get really good reviews from everyone that has been there. Their website list the following rentals: Chiappa: Rhino (.357) Glock: 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 32, 36 Issc: M22 FN: Five Seven LWRCI M6A2 Mossberg: 500 Tactical Ruger: LCP, LCR 357, Mark 111, P95, SP101, SR9, SR40 Smith & Wesson: 19, 29, 36, 60, 629, 1911, M&P: 45C, 9C, AR15-22, AR15 with EOTech Springfield: 1911 Range Officer, XDM9, XDM40, XD45, XDM 5.25 (Competition Series) Taurus: Judge, Slim 9, 24/7 Walther: P22 WASR 10 AK47 FULLY AUTOMATIC WEAPONS: HK UMP 45, HK MP5, M1 Tommy Gun, Bushmaster .223, Colt M16 9mm, Beretta PM12S, Grease Gun, AK47, AK47u, Swedish K, M16 SBR myshootersedge.com
  5. He is appealing to Washington to do something. Like what? I ask. Some sweeping federal legislation that will bring gun laws under one unbrella instead of a "state by state patchwork of laws" (Obama's words). Weapons found in NYC might be traceable to some other state, so ALL states must be shut down, cleaned up, brought into the federal power play. And we all know idiot Bloomberg is not appearing to support law abiding citzens right to self protection. He probably wants a big Washington take over. Am I way off base?
  6. ALL NFL running backs make millions. If you are one of the best among your peers, you make top $. I compare it to being on commission, a performance based pay system where you are ranked among your peers and payed market rates. If the NFL franchise is doing well then the sky is the limit. Market forces will govern but only if he performs. He has performed in the past so there is a very high expectation that he will continue to perform at a level few can match. Then there is also the agent. He is also on commission but he is leaching off the performance of someone else and leveraging that to pad his wallet. As far as the fans go, the real fans want wins and to get wins you need a full team effort. We'll see on game day how that plays out.
  7. Dittos on the 16" frame. It sounds like you've picked the event and you can do some training on the same course. As others have mentioned, get the drve train fixed and use it for a trainer. Continue watching for a used bike, now that you know what frame size you need. It sounds like this is for a one time event so buying used might make more sense; might save you several hundred $$. And good luck on the triathalon. I've only entered the ones that feature kayaking, biking and running. The transition is important to plan and rehearse. Beware of overtraining, especially on the running. A naging overuse injury can really set you back or take you out completely.
  8. I have a buldging disc but it hasn't bothered me in a few years. I found the trick was to keep inflamation to a minimum. If you wakeup in the morning with a stiff back, your having problems with inflamation. Your bed or other factors might agravate it, but it comes back to inflamation. Treat yourself as if you have arthritis because these type drugs will work on the inflamation. OTC drugs like ibuprofen will help. And there is a link between inflamation and infection. You can google "antibiotics for inflamation" and see that antibiotics can help attack the inflamtion, followed up with the ibuprophen. And keep your weight in check. I do alot of bike riding but last year I returned to an old passion and started running again. I expected the bulge to limit me but it never did. I ran several 5k events, and one 10k and the bulge never said a word.
  9. Any of the current choices will be better than Obama. The main goal is to take him down. "One-term-Obama" sounds good to me. Taking control of the senate is #2. The liberal/progressives must go. All this has to happen before we'll see policies to put the country back on sound economic footing. Don't let the media distract you with the social issues. They want Obama's opposition to be their choice. Someone they think is unelectable. If things continue going down hill on the economic side and foreign policy side, it will only make his defeat that much better. I would like to see a sound defeat, a mandate rejecting his policies.
  10. So much of this stuff could have been answered better by declaring it an issue of "states rights" and be done with it. California does all this social engineering legislation along with heavy taxes along with santuary cities. If they want to run their state into the ground thats fine with me. But regardless which side your on, it is wrong to bring your agenda to the federal level. Abortion was once a "states rights" issue. Each had their own laws and they varied alot. The feds should NOT be involved. It is a simple mistake and shows poor leadership. She should have been able to explain to this group why it would be a power grab by the federal government and we don't need any more of that.
  11. Using rentals will allow her to realize that some weapons offer different features, others hardly any. But she is like an unschooled driver buying a first vehicle and can make alot of wrong decisions if guidance is not given. And will she listen to your guidance? Be careful with this saying "let her decide". I recently met a woman who was carrying and she was proud of her choice in a new Taurus 38 revolver. What sold her on it was the little key that could be used to make the weapon in-operable. The weapon was in her purse and the key was on her key ring with her car keys. That was a purchase made by an uninformed novice. And for her to abandon that feature now was not going to happen. People will let the novice make the choice and don't add a disclaimer that a novice will often make an uninformed choice, even a poor choice.
  12. I have a Walther PK380 that is a soft shooter. The coil spring is pretty light so it is easy to rack the slide. The 3 dot sights are adjustable and the sight radius is longer than most 380s which helps with the accuracy. It has been 100% for feed and function with every ammo I've tried. Starting price is just above $300. It has an accessory rail, ambi-safety, ambi-mag release, 19oz and NOT a subcompact. It's enjoyable to shoot.
  13. Congrates! That's great! Job well done! You can enjoy every weekend running 5k events this time of year. At 40, people really should think about where you need to be in the next 5 years. Make a plan to get there. Last year I did several 5ks, an 8k and a 10k but this year I've returned to my first love, the bicycle. I remember turning 30 and realizing something had to change so I took up biking. Winter shuts me down for about 3 months but I'm 52 now still loving it. Find your self something and make it work for you, before its too late. Doing a half marathon is a great accompishment. Just training for a 10k required alot of time for me. I usually finished mid-pack in my age group. I used the local high school track because it has that rubberized surface, easier on the joints I think.
  14. Check also Dentsply in Johnson City. They have several technical openings.
  15. Let me set-up this senario: You are taken from the crash site on a stretcher, maybe in and out of consciousness. And you are leaving behind a firearm in the wrecked vehicle. Or you will soon be enroute to the hospital and there is a firearm on you somewhere. Any EMTs out there or emergency room staff?
  16. What Walther is your wife wanting?
  17. -Bristol-

    Walther P22

I bought one last year, and presented to my wife the day before she went to qualify for her HCP. Straight from the box, it was flawless (CCI mini-mags of course) She loved it and scored 100%. I had run thru a couple magazines before giving it to her but no cleaning. It now has about 400 rounds thru it and has been cleaned twice. Rem oil has been working good for me. Just a light application.
  18. -Bristol-

    Walther PPS .40

That "cheaper ammo" thing goes along way.

    Walther PPS .40

I also love the fit, small hands. I don't own that particular model but I do have two other polymer framed Walthers and I am a big fan of the mag release. Both mine are keepers. That slim design of the PPS is very appealing.
  20. Wow, I never imagined this forum was home to so many who ride or used to ride. Impressive! I get in about 2000 miles on the road each season. I love Tennessee roads and drivers, most of them anyway. I try to always be aware of the needs of drivers and have had very little trouble. This issue does have some parallels to those of us who carry.
  21. I have purchased two Walthers in the last year. Personally, I have not needed any customer service but I spend a fair amount of time on WaltherForums.com and many say customer service is ok, but not world class. Give them a few days, they might come through for you. If they have to get parts from Germany or check other sources to find parts, it might take more time.
  22. I say Urban legend! (sort of) It was called the 200mpg carburetor and the rights to use it were purchased by Duesenburg, Pierce Arrow, Smith & Mabley Simplex and a few others. It received a US patent but was never renewed. This was years ago, early 1900s. Back when gasoline was quite unstable, more volatile then the grades we have today. The fuel tank had a heating element in it to warm the fuel to a point that it would put out large amounts of vapor. The tank was very large and reenforced and kept at only 1/4 full. This was to allow plenty of room for the vapors to form. The carb did not feed raw fuel but only vapors and that is how you could get 200 mpg, so they claimed. Risk of explotion were never completely resolved so the idea was dropped.
  23. How was chevy forced to kill the electric car????????? Fact Check: The Chevy Volt scored Motor Trend 2011 Car of the Year award; Car & Driver 2011 Top Ten award; North American Auto Show Car of the Year award. A total of 8 awards so far and yet you say it is dead. Where do you get your info? I drive a Mazda3 and 67 Mustang so I'm not a Volt fan, just lookin for some straight shootin'
  24. Dittos! That is the first place I would try. TCGD
  25. I walked by there last weekend and did not see any signs posted.
