  1. Any one have any experience with these in a Mini-14, or an AR? CTD has a magazine sale, thinking about buying one before they are banned. Pricy but what the heck, would really be cool looking!
  2. Cardcutter I just googled Tap-o-Cap drawings and it came up at a firearms forum. I need to learn how to do links and post pictures.
  3. Bought some at the Dollar Store, they were made in China not much quality control, went into local Wally world and found some made in Germany,  a lot better quality. I don't have a tap-a-cap tool, they quit selling in 2010, but I have a set of drawing that I found on the internet and plan on making one. Will try making the cutter without the teeth first to see how that works. Cutting the teeth looks to be the most diffucult part. Would like to buy a tap-a-cap tool easier than making one.
  4. Anyone make percussion caps using the tap-a-cap tool and roll caps? Would like to hear from someone that has tried this before I invest too much time experminting. Have recently started making replicas of some of the old handgonnes and cheroot cane hand cannons. Also load 41 colt,38 spl. ,38 s&w crtge with black powder. Like the loads in these old gun ,don't have to worry about blowing them up.
  5. I live in the NE corner of Weakley county, about .5 mile from Henry county. I mow crp in both counties and see quite a few coveys and a few rabbits in the late summer but they seem to disappear by the winter. No longer have a bird dog, so don't hunt them anymore.
  6. Just bought an old 41 long colt and will load for it, need a source for the .386 dia. hollow base lead bullets. Will probably use bp instead of smokeless, or maybe trailboss. Any one out there load for an ole 41 Colt?
  7. Not all liars are politicans, but all politicans are liars. How do I know, ask anyone who served in Viet Nam. You can never trust a politican.
  8. Have done business with him in the past . Had good prices back when I needed primers and powder .
  9. Anyone else go to the gun show at Jackson? Went with wife and stepdaughter to check out hand guns for them, both are going to take the cc class and get their permit. Large crowd on Saturday morning.
  10. Actually live between Cottage Grove and Palmersville, in West Tn, out in the boonies.Appreciate the offer. Thanks
  11. Have a couple of the old m&ps that shoot the 38 s&w crtg.Does anyone on here load a metal jacket .357 bullet to shoot in them? Haven't cast any lead bullets yet to use in them. Do you have a recipe for loading the .357 jacket bullets? Can you share your recipe? Thanks
  12. Need to depopulate the racoon population around my hay barns. Will use live traps. Will kill and skin them.Does anyone know if there are still fur buyers around.Haven't done this since back in the 60's.Used to run a trapline some back then with a friend.Had a guy in the edge of Ky.,named Frenchy, that bought the stretched and dried hides.Would really rather sell raw hides. Thanks
  13. Be aware of the zinc and steel wheel weights mixed in also.Zinc melts at a higher temp. than lead, but if you don't have a therometer to measure temp with you could possibly get some zinc mixed in. I check my wheel weights with a pair of side cutters, lead cuts easy zinc is hard.Dry sawdust makes a good flux also.
  14. Think I will load some Magtec brass shotshells to dove hunt with.Have a 28 ga. sxs and have always wanted to shoot and reload as the old timers did.Any body ever try this? I made all the hand tools out of brass and ss to hand load them. Also have and old Lee loader in 28 ga.
  15. Spread wheat on about 3 acre plot next to creek this morning, sure hope I can shoot a few doves over it.Man it is dry and dusty here. Neighbor has cut corn silage and saw a couple of fields of corn already shelled. Not seeing many doves yet.How does it look in your part of the State. I'm in Weakley county.
  16. To each his own, personally I like wood and steel guns, not a fan of plastic .When I run out of boolits I want a piece of steel to use as a last line of defense to bash heads with.
  17. Just finished mowing a couple hundred acres of crp land.Saw more rabbits than last year, about the same number of deer and fewer coveys of quail . Will this year be a good year for hunting?
  18. Yeah back in the 60's we used to go [ hogging is what we called it] in the obion river. Cotton mouth snakes would occasionally come after you but the current would usually carry them downstream.Only legal in 4 states,Tn. Miss. La. and oklahoma.Young and dumb back then always wondered how I've survived this long. A lot of good memories.
  19. Happy with my Caldwells from Midway, caught them on sale for 19.99 and bought 4 sets.Have hearing loss from punctured ear drum when in Army, and too many loud noises so the regular old ear muffs I can't hear anything, but the electronic muffs I can hear a normal conversation while wearing them.
  20. Does anyone here make their own replacement grips ? I need to replace the origional grips on my Colt New Service revolver because the left grip is broken. If you make your own grips do you use a scroll saw or a band saw to cut them out? Just need something to fit my hand better, nothing fancy. Probably use walnut or osage orange. Thanks
  21. Anyone plant sunflowers to shoot doves over. Disced three or four acres this morning to put sunflowers on,but have never planted sunflowers before. Do you just broadcast seed and then drag harrow over them to cover the seed? Any info appreciated.
  22. Had a few old 12 ga. reloads that had cracked at the crimp so decided I would try putting some #8 shot instead of the walnut media in my bee loads. Used the same .5cc powder dipper of clays and the same over powder wad and then I put approximately 100 #8 lead shot in and put an overshot card in and then a dab of clear silicone to seal. Finally got to try them out today.Suprised at the outcome. Shot and killed a pidgeon at about 10 to 12 feet inside the old hay barn. Didn't know how they would pattern so shot a board on the wall and they were in about a 5 or 6 inch pattern at 10 feet. I believe these will be excellent snake charmer loads. Man these carpenter bees are wearing me out. Shot about 75 bee loads at the big hay barn this afternoon. Got to reload another 300 loads for them.Too much fun.
  23. Loading 45acp brass with walnut media and a dipper of powder that is in my 45acp dies. Using a 45 long colt brass hull to cut my over powder and oversht cards.Found the rubberized cork gasket material 1/16 in. thick works really well. Walnut media works better than corn cob media and also tried grits but the walnut media patterns better. Loaded about 300 rounds this way with a dab of clear silicone on the overshot wad to seal the wad in place. Shot all of these in less than couple of weeks. Next batch I put a small roll crimp ,about .005 , to hold the overshot wad in place. Turned a small piece of walnut to make a packing rod for the wads over the powder and walnut media. Shooting them in a Smith and Wesson Brazilian revolver. These pattern in about a 6 inch pattern out about 4 feet. Too much fun.
  24. Yes I really like and enjoy hunting and shooting with revolvers.Used to deer hunt with a Ruger 44 mag. Hunted with open sights, shot at 5 deer with it and killed 4 of them. Got older and can't see well enough to hunt with the open sights anymore. Also love the old 1917 revolvers.
  25. Those dove breast marinated in soy sauce and lemon juice for three hours and then wrapped with a slice of hot or mild pepper and a slice of bacon and grilled over charcoal are mouth watering good.
