  1. Oh, man. That doesn't sound good. I hope it works out well for you. I know nearly anything that says 'drop-in' usually isn't, but keep me posted. I'd like to see how this progresses. Maybe with a little tweaking it will work for you. If nothing else, maybe Ghost Inc. will stand behind their "No BS Return Policy" they always brag about.
  2. I have the second SR9 version, made after the recall. Its a pretty smooth trigger except for that annoying 'snap' at the end of the pull. I polished and cleaned the internal firing parts and smoothed it out a bit, but want to lighten the pull to about 4-5lbs. I contacted Ruger hoping to get a gen 3 trigger installed or shipped, but they said they do not install the newer version triggers & certainly not for free. The free service is only for factory warranted parts and recalled firearms. This was sent to me by email from Ruger "Sturm, Ruger does not offer conversion kits for our pistols and will not change one from their original, factory specifications." Oh well. The Ghost trigger mods only cost $20-$30 depending on the version you want, but they sound a little too good to be true. They claim an instant drop to either 5 or 3.5 lbs just by adding their trigger bar. They claim you don't even have to change springs. I may just break down and give 'em a try. Thanks for the input.

    Tipping.

I always try to tip & be polite. I try to picture myself in their shoes. I used to work at Autozone and occassionally recieved tips, but was just happy to have a job & actually enjoyed the job. I like helping people. I remember getting a tip from a poor school teacher who barely had $2 to rub together. It didn't feel good accepting it, since I knew he was poor, but he insisted & I've never passed up a chance to help him when I could, even after hours. Then another time, I took part of my (unpaid) lunch break to drive down the road and give a jump start to a guy in a brand new Dodge dually. I wasn't looking for a tip, but didn't even get a thanks. He just rudely said "It sure took you long enough!", and then pulled out. Oh, well. On the other side. I was in a restaurant once and at the end of a $14 + change, meal only had $20 in my wallet so I left it all to cover the tip. I went to the bathroom and on my way out heard the waitress make a comment about me being a cheap a$$hole & only giving her a $5 tip. It made me a little upset & I wondered what she would say if she knew it was my last $20. I was laid off at the time and didn't go out much, but still wanted to be generous. I remembered the 'Golden Rule' and let it go, but did request a different waitress the next time we were there. I later heard she was fired for being an a$$hole to another customer. What goes around...
  4. Bump...still hoping to hear from someone with a Ghost trigger in their SR9. I wonder if they really work as well as they claim?
  5. That's a great looking shotgun. Not everyday you find a deal like this on one in such nice condition.
  6. Thanks. The holster's a Fobus GLT Tactical series. As for the color...most people that see it either love it or hate it. When I saw it in the store I loved it, but that's just me. The camera flash brightened up the green just a bit. It's actually true olive drab, but thanks for the Kermit quote anyway. Now that songs gonna be stuck in my head the rest of the night.
  7. If you want to sell it, you'll be better off selling on TGO or to an individual. I bought one like this, but with black grips for $250 at a pawn shop in Knoxville. A few months later I had some emergency bills come up & sold it with a couple of spare mags for $450. A pistol is only worth what a person is willing to give, but I don't think you'll have a problem getting a lot more out of it.
  8. Even hardware stores sale tactical gear. Take an everyday item like black electricians tape. Isn't electrical tape just a - tactical black, adhesive, electronic repair device? Put that on the label and you can charge more for it. In all fairness, I gotta admit, I have a pump shotgun with a black pistol grip stock, side saddle, and heat shield. Why? Cause it looks tacti...um...I mean cool. I like it, but I know it doesn't have a real practical everyday use. It's just a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. Now I'm off to fleabay to look for a tactical computer mouse so I can play some covert solitaire.
  9. +1 to OP. I have a Beretta Cougar in .45 ACP and love it. Like he said, it's an "all metal gun". Even the .45 has a very controllable recoil and is amazingly accurate. I'm thinking of getting a Stoeger...I just haven't decided on 9mm or 40. These are even made on the original Beretta machining equipment, just in a different country & a lot better price.
  10. I love my full size SR9. Bought it in olive drab a year ago and have put every kind of ammo you could think of through it without a single hitch. It has a lot better feel than the Glocks I've tried. It always goes bang when I pull the trigger & puts holes right where I want 'em. It's a well made firearm & I think you'll be pleased with the SR9. I haven't tried the 40 yet, but will in a few weeks.
  11. Yeah. I know what you mean. I wanted to mount a set of Toyota fog lights, but the car battery kept falling off the reciever. Thanks.
  12. I enjoy seeing other gun pics and thought I would add a few of my own. Here's my Ruger SR9 with matching olive drab Viridian green laser. Shoots like a dream. I bought the Fobus holster from a generous TGO member. The holster is a Fobus GLT Tactical series that allows carry of lasers, lights, etc. with instant access to your weapon. The holster looks shiny in the pics, but actually matches the matte black pistol slide. I had just cleaned and oiled it before I took the photos. Thanks for looking.
  13. The AK looks really nice with the tan outfit.
  14. Here's my 12ga. Mossberg '500AT'. It came from the factory as a 'cruiser' , but I've added a full length ATI stock, ATI side saddle (with some 3" 00 buck), ATI muzzle mount, polymer heat shield, Blackhawk forend, & a Magpul polymer rail. I've also pictured it with a couple surefire lights. I have the factory Mossberg pistol grip and forend & still practice with the pistol grip sometimes. I keep it real clean and its always been realiable. I think it looks pretty good for a 36 year old shotgun & it's a lot of fun to shoot! Thanks for lookin'.
  15. I've had a black polymer heat shield on my Mossberg 500 for about 8 years and its great. (Made from the same polymer/plastic as many pistol frames.) It still looks new and you don't have to worry about scratching it or the barrel. They handle high temperatures & won't scratch, dent, or rust like steel ones & actually protect your gun better than metal ones. Smack the polymer one with a hammer and it will just flex and absorb the hit. I think I paid about $20 for mine online.

    Ruger LC9

I'm a Ruger fan (I love my SR9), but the $443 sugg. retail price on Ruger's website scares me a little. I'll wait a while and see what reaction they get and sell for when they hit the market. They do look interesting, though.
  17. If you don't mind, keep me informed. I'm really curious about these trigger mods.
  18. Let me know if you get it all worked out. Kinda makes me a little hesitant to buy one. They brag a lot about a simple drop in part that can make your trigger pull 5 lbs. or 3.5 lbs on their website. They say the angle of the new part makes the difference, but so far the only place I've heard good news about them is on their own site. Anybody can brag about their own stuff & I wanted to hear about real world results. Thanks kieefer.
  19. Bass Pro is a 2 hour drive for us. As far as that goes, Coal Creek Armory is over 1 1/2 hours from my house and it's the closest HCP class I've found right now. Might as well drive the extra half hour and use the saved money for ammo. Gives us an excuse to jump on over to Gatlinburg.
  20. I've been reading about the Ghost Inc. trigger mod for SR9's, but haven't heard from anyone that has actually installed one. My SR9 already has a pretty good trigger feel, but I'd like to lighten & smooth it out a little more than just polishing can do. Has anybody installed one into their SR9? Which did you use and what difference did it make?
  21. Did you order the grips from one of the members or a vendor? Who?
  22. Ever seen "O Brother Where Art Thou", when the guy says "Two weeks from everywhere"? Thats pretty much describes where I live. I'm trying to locate a good indoor range. I live in Scott County and, even outdoor areas are becoming scarce, plus its cold as whizz right now. A lot of people suggest Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville, but it's 75 miles away & it's a 3 1/2 hour drive to the Nashville area. Any good indoor ranges in between that anyone can suggest?
  23. Folding knives with a blade length of 4" or less is legal in public places, except of course schools, federal buildings, and some events. Wearing sheath knives of any length is prohibited in all public places in TN. Notice I said "wearing". Camping, hiking, hunting, etc...they are suppost to be packed with gear & not worn. I was stopped once by police walking into a store because I got back from hunting and forgot I still had my SOG strapped to my belt. I didn't get in trouble because they knew I had obviously been hunting & simply forgot to leave it in the truck, but I wouldn't advise walking around Wally World all day with your sheath knife on your belt.
  24. The ATF does not consider black powder firearms as "weapons" in the traditional sense. That's why there's no background checks or $10 fee when purchasing black powder revolvers or rifles. If you're 18, you can even purchase black powder revolvers through the mail. I'm not completely sure about the carry law, but every police officer I've spoken with said I could legally carry without a permit, but that it wasn't a good idea. Some said carry was ok, but without the firing caps. There's a little gray area here. It's probably better to be safe than sorry and just go get a carry permit.
