  1. Does anyone in the mid-TN area have a Steyr M9 (or S9/C9) that I could try out? I've been looking around & trying various 9mm semi-autos, and the Steyr's have piqued my interest. I'm in the Nashville area, but willing to drive an hour or so in any direction.
  2.   You sure? I did a search on the CA website for myself, and it came back with my:   - First, middle & last name - Year of birth - City, county, and ZIP of residence - Issue date & expiration date of permit   There was no mention of my address or gender.
  3. Not trying to push the Wiha brand stuff, but they make both full screwdrivers & insert bits. They also make bits in the standard 1/4" hex insert size, as well as smaller 5/32" (4mm) insert size.
  4. Nice vid, peejman.   I found a couple of others. Man, I must be bored today.   These are at 1,000,000 frames/sec.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otpFNL3yem4   This one is a little better, forward to 1:07 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0VjdI_S_HM   ...and on the receiving end of things. Watch it all the way through; there's a lot of variety to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfDoQwIAaXg     Hey peejman, how did you get your video to embed? I tried a few different things, but didn't have any luck.
  5. Lester beat me to the punch: The above example is true, except that it doesn't take into account the high-pressure gas exiting the muzzle after the bullet leaves the barrel. So the recoil of the sending firearm will be much greater than the receiving firearm. I'd be curious to find out how much of the recoil is generated by the exiting gasses vs. the acceleration of the bullet. My personal wet-finger-in-the-ear guess would be 50% or more of the recoil is from the gas, which would explain why compensators & suppressors are so effective at reducing recoil. Compensators redirect most of gases to the side (in two opposite streams the cancel their forces), or up (to reduce muzzle-flip), or to the rear (to cancel even the bullet acceleration force). Suppressors force the gases to exit more gradually, thus reducing their velocity. I've also heard that the *volume* of escaping gasses is reduced because the suppressor absorbs some of the heat, but I'm kinda doubtful that a whole lot of cooling can occur in the few milliseconds that the gas impulse exists. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Switching from fun techno-babble to other fun stuff... I found a nice slow-motion video of a tank firing. You can even see the shockwave if you look closely. http://www.businessinsider.com/tank-firing-in-super-slow-motion-2011-6 ...and some pics of Howitzers going BOOM. Without a compensator: ...and with a compensator: You want a suppressor? How about this one:
  6. For small, precision screwdriver bits, I've had good luck with the Wiha brand stuff (out of Germany). Their steel seems to be harder than the cheapo Asian stuff that's at Home Depot / Harbor freight, which is a real necessity when trying to put some force on a bit that doesn't have much bearing surface to begin with. This is the kit that I have: http://www.micro-tools.com/store/P-75996/System4-Precision-Bit-Set-Inchmetric-And-Esd-Handle-40-Pc.aspx It's a little pricey, but has lasted me many years. The Micro-tools store also sells the bits individually, making replacement a lot easier. Wiha also makes the standard-size 1/4" insert bits, too, and a whole bunch of other tools.
  7. I have 50 rounds of it, but haven't tried it out yet. I've heard that semi-auto .22's will vary quite a bit on which ammo they will feed reliably. I'd suggest buying a 50-round box or two & trying them out before ordering a full case.
  8. JC & Bubba, Thanks for the info. I could have interpreted the FAQ question wrong. I'm curious, what has been your experience selling items through GB as opposed to buying?
  9. I watched "Band of Brothers" for the first time last year and felt like I got to know him a little bit. I hope I can pass on the good things I learned from him.
  10. Yes, that is a copy of what's on their site. I have three issues with it: - 1. This information is not mentioned on their registration page, nor anywhere on their fees page. It is listed on their Support FAQ page under "Why am I being charged a dollar ($1.00) every month?". The information is not readily pointed out when registering. - 2. The registration page states, "We charge no recurring membership fees of any kind". This gives me the impression that they do not charge anything on a monthly basis. This is not true. When a business takes money from me & forces me to either spend it on their services or close my account, that's a "fee". Calling it a "credit balance" makes me feel like they're just dancing around the issue. - 3. Charging $1 to a new credit card on file to verify that it's legit is one thing. Giving me a $1 credit towards their services in return is very nice. Charging it *every month* is beyond necessary.
  11. Is doing business on Gunbroker.com worth the hassle & somewhat shady business practices? I started to open an account there a few weeks ago. First, they wanted to charge me $1 to "verify" who I was because I wanted to use my yahoo email account. Ok, sure, whatever. They mention that on the registration page. But then they wanted *another* $2 to do an "extended verification". I felt that was a bit over-the-top, so I stopped at that point. After more looking around their FAQ, I found out that they will charge your card $1/month, just to have an open account. This, even though on their registration page they state "We charge no recurring membership fees of any kind". They state that the charge is not a fee, but a "credit balance" because you can use the money towards their services, and you'll get back the rest of your money when you close your account. Personally, I feel that's a shady way of doing business. I'm thinking of canceling my registration. Is it worth the hassle to do business with them?
  12. I bear a certain resemblance to the actor who played Mouse. My old roommate thought it would be funny if I memorized the "Tasty Wheat" monologue.
  13. Alright, now you're gonna make me look it up. (rummage, rummage...) Ok, looks like you're right. The one I was thinking of was Jan 16th, 2003. NOAA says that we got 7" that day. Link: Snowstorms Producing at Least 6" at Nashville I coulda sworn that there was a foot & a half in my front yard, but that could have been from drifts & such. But yeah, that one shut down Nashville for almost a week.
  14. Was this the morning that we (in Nashville) got almost 2 feet of snow?
  15. Welcome! Sounds like a fun business. Talk to TGOdavid about becoming a supporting vendor here and get your personal space to advertise sell your services! Lots of people here need good guys to work on their firearms.
  16. I think the headline is a typo. It sounds like the employee is being *charged* with homicide, not that he's been convicted of it.
  17. Sorry, I'm not going to make it out today. I stayed up bast my bedtime last night & am paying for it today.
  18. I'm pretty sure that Ggun is correct. However, OS, you're partly right in that it becomes a moot point for anything that is jointly owned. For example, a person gets a huge judgment against them & has to sell everything they own to cover it. If their car is in the spouse's name only, it's not at risk. If the car is jointly owned, the spouse's 50% stake in the car is not at risk, but the car still has to be sold to get the other half out of it.
  19. +1 I disagree with not using deadly force an unarmed person. "Disparity of Force" is a justifiable reason to defend yourself. The Larry Hickey case in Arizona would be one example.

    Jammed AR

I'm not familiar with AR's in particular, but I've heard of *cases* getting stuck in the chamber when switching from steel-cased ammo to brass-cased ammo without cleaning the chamber first. Not sure if that's part of the problem or not...
  21. Tempting... I *might* be there. I need to sight-in my 452 (and get out of the house for awhile). However, I'm also backlogged on things that I really *should* be doing.
