  1. *Edit*   Fumble-fingers at work. Must remove PB&J from fingers before editing posts.
  2. Nice! At first glance, though, I thought you were referring to one of these:
  3.   Now *that's* the way to do it! LOL. Nothing like tens of thousands of dollars in inventory just sitting there, collecting dust. And since it's not moving, offer them $20 a brick just to do them a favor & take it off their hands. :woohoo:
  4.   Absolutely. Other than folks being a little, well...   :bat:  about high prices & low availability of ammo compared to the past, this *is* the free market at work. Yes, I think this particular ammo is over-priced, but they haven't harmed me one bit. They could ask $500 a brick, and I wouldn't be mad. I'd simply decide to not buy that product if I can find a comparable product at a better price somewhere else. Ironically, I find it more surprising that retailers are selling a product at below current market value, with no quantity limits, just to watch it disappear in the blink of an eye by hungry shoppers. As a business owner, that tells me the product is under-priced. As a consumer, though, I'm not going to complain. I'll keep my eyes open for good deals when they come around.   I like to think of it this way: If the number of people who do the work that I do is limited, and the demand increased substantially, employers would be falling all over themselves in a bidding war to get me to work for them. I wouldn't be unhappy. ;)
  5.   In TN, you have a 6-month grace period past the expiration, where your permit is not valid but you can renew without having to re-take anything. After 6 months you have to start from the beginning.   Per www.tn.gov/safety/handgun/renewals.shtml
  6.   ...and only the FAA-approved versions would be allowed on anything beyond a home-built ultralight. It's funny & sad, but the numbers aren't far off.   I've tinkered around with the thought of flying for some time, and at one point I found a market niche that was under-served. As an entrepreneur, I seriously looked at starting a little one-man business to fill the gap & have fun at the same time. I soon discovered why that market was under-served: it's effectively regulated out of existence because the FAA requirements make everything outrageously expensive. You not only need deep pockets to get in the game, you have to charge commensurately high prices just to break even, thus preventing that under-served market from being filled.   On a related note, that's partly why the big impending airline pilot shortage isn't being filled by hungry new pilots. The FAA requirements make training incredibly expensive, and the current market conditions don't pay new pilots enough to make it worthwhile (unless you have enough money to just write a check & not blink).
  7. Twilight Zone, or maybe an 80's Kris Kristofferson movie...
  8. That's got to be it! The plane crashed because someone didn't turn off their cell phone while in flight.   :panic: :hiding:
  9. Remembering back a bit, the book that was written about Air Canada Flight 143 (the Gimli Glider) mentioned that one of the many profound strokes of luck they had was that they happened to be in an area where the primary radar had not yet been decommissioned. Otherwise, the flight would have disappeared entirely from ATC when the aircraft lost all power & the transponder stopped working.   Granted, this was in 1983, when the Boeing 767 was brand-new.
  10. Whoops! Good catch, guys. Thanks for the correction. Post edited.
  11. P.S. I think it's great that the law has all of these happy faces written into it. That just makes me feel warm all over.
  12. Well, I'm not exactly sure about what the story is referring to as "disarming"... To answer the implied question, though: - Being armed while consuming alcohol inside a business where alcohol is served, and/or - Being armed while under the influence, are both illegal.   Either is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by: up to 1 year in jail a fine of up to $2,500 or both. Also, if you do either one while inside a business where alcohol is served, your permit will be suspended for 3 years.   Per TCA 39-17-1321:
  13.   Yep; I've been there once. Not a bad place, but there's no range officer there. You have to pay for your range ticket down the street at the convenience store, too.   The times I've been to CHMR everyone was well-behaved, but again, no range officer.   I have not been to Stones River, but I've heard that there is always an RSO there (based on the amount of grumbling I've heard about the "Range Nazis", LOL.)   I've only been to Nashville Armory once so far. The experience was good, and yes, there was an RSO there.   G&L has good ranges. Shorter distances at the Hendersonville location, longer at Greenbrier. Well behaved customers, but no RSO.
  14. Does Charlie have any (or allow someone to bring their own) at CHMR? It's been a few years since I've been out that way.
  15.   Wow; great point.   The video is on my list to watch.
  16. Talk about putting a target on your back... (rimshot)
  17.   Well, that sucks. I can usually buy ammo online & pay shipping, or buy it locally & pay sales tax, and it comes out a wash. But buying online with shipping *and* sales tax puts it at a price disadvantage compared to out-of-state businesses (at least for me in TN). It's the same with LuckyGunner.com. They have one of the best websites for ordering ammunition, but they're in-state, and have to collect sales tax. Their prices are a tad high, too, but you know if they have it in stock; and their service is great, so you get what you pay for. If I'm not in a hurry, I'll usually scrounge around for a while & find it cheaper out of state.
  18.     Sure am. I sent you a PM, so we don't hijack the thread.
  19.   I don't know. Shoot them an email & ask. It's info@ammoman.com. Let us know what you hear.
  20. Careful with ingesting lead, there. It's been known to cause giddiness, buffoonery, insanity, and a... Nevermind.
  21. They say that memory is the 2nd thing to go...
  22. "The check is in the mail."   It's the oldest line in the book, right? Well, I ordered some ammo from a vendor in Texas & promptly mailed a check to pay for it. After a week, the order hadn't shipped, and the check hadn't cleared my bank. I emailed the company & confirmed that they had not received it yet. Fearing that the envelope had met its demise somewhere en route, I offered to pay via credit card instead. The vendor was gracious, and agreed to wait a bit more. It finally arrived today, 13 days after it was postmarked.   While neither of us could figure out what caused the delay, it brought up a similar funny story from a few years ago: One time I opened my PO Box to find an envelope with the title to my motorcycle inside. This was odd, because I hadn't done anything with the paperwork on my motorcycle in quite some time. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the postmark was over a *year* old. The envelope was intact & in good condition, and there were no markings or notices to indicate that it had been mis-processed. The best part was that it had only traveled from downtown Nashville to a suburb; a whopping 10 miles. The worst part was that I had completely forgotten about receiving the title after I had registered it over a year ago!    Time to share. Anyone else have a funny story of "Adventures in Mailing"?
  23. I sent an email asking about it. He got right back to me:     > In regards to sales tax, our warehouse actually ships out of Tennessee, so all orders shipped within the state are considered an in-state sale. As a result, we are required to charge sales tax on all orders. I apologize about any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, please let me know! Thank you, Joe AmmoMan.com
  24. I haven't ordered from them before, but I just now put some something in my cart & it showed sales tax. Yes, it looks like they're in NJ.
  25.   Which shooting range do you use for your long-distance shooting?
