  1. The Taurus is much fun to shoot. It holds 9 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. With the Silver Bear hollow points, I think it was the shape of the nose of the bullet that was causing it to not feed properly. But later they worked fine, I guess I just had to get the guns broken in a little. I will post pics a little later of both guns.
  2. Range reports on two guns. The first is a Taurus 1911 in 9mm. This is one of the more inexpensive (cheap) 1911's out there and really doesn't have a great reputation and of course a 1911 in 9mm doesn't seem at all popular. However, this gun is a GREAT shooter. I was shooting consistant groups at 30 feet with Federal 115 grain FMJ, Winchester white box 147 grain JHP, TulAmmo (russian) 115 grain FMJ, and some cheap Silver Bear 145 grain (also Russian) JHP. At first it didn't want to feed the Silver Bear, but after putting it thru its paces with the other ammo, it shot the Silver Bear just fine. The weight of the gun makes for a very small recoil, very quick to get back on target after the shot. This is the first 1911 I've owned and I'm very pleased with it. Its the fullsize with the five inch barrel, IMO not really a viable carry piece, but a great safe queen and target gun. The second is the Beretta PX4 Storm Compact in 9mm. I bought this gun because my wife could cycle it without straining. It has a very smooth action and is single action/double action. For those that don't know, its a polymer frame pistol with an external safety/decocker (which my wife also likes). I'm a Glock guy and very comfy with my 19 and 26. This was similar, but different at the same time. The grip angle is slightly different and the SA/DA trigger is way different than the Glock. The PX4 Storm has a rotating barrel which is a new design to me and which means the feed ramp is actually separate from the barrel. I was afraid this would keep the gun from properly cycling HP ammo. Just like above, I tried Federal FMJ, Winchester white box JHP and the Russian Tul (FMJ) and Silver Bear (JHP).The PX4 ran everything except the Silver Bear, at first it wouldn't cycle the Silver Bear, but after putting it through its paces with the other ammos, it ran just fine on Silver Bear. The difference in the grip angle and the trigger was a little difficult for me to get used to at first and everything was low and right, by the end of the session, I was grouping in a four inch group at 30 feet, which satisfies me completely. The Beretta is going to be my new home defense piece so I can go back to using my Glock for my daily carry. The Taurus will be a range gun only. I really do enjoy my two new toys.
  3. I've worn this for years. Not as epic as some of the others, but do I get points for the snow whiteness?
  4. What about the camo guns? Just another gimick or is there a valid reason for hunting with a gun that blends with the background?
  5. THAT'S what I'm screaming!
  6. I was in line at some store the other day and the guy in front of me pulls out his camo wallet and my first thought was "I'd drop that in the woods and NEVER find it." It got me to thinking. Now, I'm not a hunter and I understand that most of the camo you find around is for decoration only, like on your trucks trim and such, but my question is WHY would you want your wallet, your gun, ammo bag or anything of value that you might risk losing decorated in camo? I could see myself dropping my camo wallet in the forest and never seeing it again or dropping a camo shotgun in a pile of leaves at the end of the day and having trouble finding it in low light. I'd think you'd want your wallet, your gun and anything of value in a bright safety orange or something equally obvious to see against a background of brown and green. Am I wrong? School me.
  7. The Dickson show is small, but not much different than most I've seen. Vendors asking full retail on most things, but can be bargained with in many cases. The fairgrounds building where this is held may or may not be air conditioned. It could be sweltering inside there, but you occasionally see someone get a bargain. When I'm shopping, I usually get an idea of an items worth by shopping it online before i go to the show. Just saying.
  8. Welcome to TGO from a fellow Clarksvillian.

  10. 39-17-1309. Carrying weapons on school property. © (1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any firearm, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. It is not an offense under this subsection © for a nonstudent adult to possess a firearm, if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property. None of this says anything about non-school functions or non-school hours. I think you'd be hard pressed to defend yourself if you were caught carrying on school property, even to go to church.
  11. Willis, Thanks for the link, I'm gonna check them out and maybe order me some zings. JW
  12. This may sound silly, but I'm on the hunt for bargain purchases on the Kershaw ZING. I bought a bunch of them when Walmart was clearing out their inventory. While not an amazing knife by any means, its unusual looking. This particular knife has become a signature for me locally. I gave them away to friends going to Afghanistan, friends who were returning from Afghanistan, traded them to others, gave them as gifts, etc. I gave away my last Zing the other night. While I can find them on Amazon for $30 to $40, thats more than I paid for the original bunch I gave away. Does anyone know where I might find some cheaper online or in the Clarksville/Nashville area? Not interested in the ones with orange scales, just black or silver.
  13. Yeah, The autos are everywhere and some are very cheap too.
  14. Sigh. I suppose all car lots are the same. I can't understand why they want to play these head games and make the process so difficult.
  15. I'm considering buying a car from Rocky Williams in Lebanon. Has anyone had any experience with them, good or bad? I'm from Clarksville. Sadly, the car dealers here all have the attitude that customers are idiots who aren't smart enough to know when they are getting ripped off. Are the folks in Lebanon better to deal with?
  16. Fire. Lots and lots of fire.
  17. S&W Bodyguard 380 in a DeSantis pocket holster. With Kershaw Zing, Leatherman Fuse on my belt and a Kershaw Amphibian in my boot when feasible.
  18. This. I'm guilty, I won't lie. Some of us just can't afford expensive guns and have to make do with what we can afford.
  19. I currently own several Taurus revolvers, .38, .357 and .22. I love them all. Great guns all. I have recently traded for a PT1911. Its a new gun and has some problems. I have sent it in for warranty work and I will certainly let everyone know what becomes of this situation. I do think Taurus is a hit or miss kinda product. You either get a great one or a terrible one. So far, I'm still more pleased than not. I'm waiting to see what happens with this warranty work, I may change my mind on all of them.
  20. Thanks for the encouraging words.
  21. I've sent a pistol back to Taurus to take advantage of their lifetime warranty and the wait is killing me. This is the first time I've ever done this. I talked to the Taurus CS rep before sending the gun and I've received a call and a letter confirming they received the gun. Since then, nothing and its been two weeks. Has anyone else used the Taurus repair warranty and how long did it take to get your heater back?
  22. I"ve been in Clarksville Guns and Archery and I like the place. One of the friendlier gun shops I've been in. They offer layaway and financing. They have as good a selection of new and used as anyone in town. Helpful, friendly and they seem genuinely glad to see you when you walk in.
  23. I had a PF-9 that I carried for a year, until it developed a problem with the mag release. Everytime I fired it, the magazine fell out. I traded it. Given the price, I was happy with it while I had it. It was a cheap gun with a sorry finish (I ruined several shirts because of rust stains where they touched the gun while carrying it IWB). It will be something to get you by until you can save your nickels.
  24. Thats the problem I was having.
