  1. This one is for a Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter. It has loops for the Exotac ferro rod and a ceramic sharpening rod I put together for the sheath. I have black steel hardware on the way so all the silver will be swapped out soon. I took the advice of others and made the drop loop removable, so it could be worn high on the belt or horizontally. With the D-rings, it has a couple of lashing points as well. There is a big thick welt on the blade side that roughly follows the stitching. What design tweaks should I make for the next one? I think I am going to make some minor changes to how the loops attach on the back, and the D-ring on the bottom will be attached differently. I placed the loops for the ferro rod and sharpening rod to the rear to make the face of the sheath more streamlined, but I am wondering if I should move them to the front. Like the previous prototype there are some minor flaws with the stitching and cosmetics. Suggestions are appreciated.
  2. I am friends with the person who was injured and fortunately she is recovering as well as can be expected. She can't give many details because it is still being investigated by law enforcement but based on what little I heard, this was totally preventable and a major screw up for the person who fired off the shot. 3.   I don't know.... maybe if I added a gear or two?
  4. All good suggestions, especially using Chicago screws for the loop (seems kind of obvious to me now that everyone pointed it out).
  5. Here is a new sheath I made today for my Fallkniven F1. It has a loop for a Gobspark Ranger fire steel and a pocket for a DMT mini diamond stone. I'm hoping to start making these to add to my Etsy shop. I need to tweak the design a little bit, but I'd like to hear some feedback on how I can make it better. I am switching over to black Durable DOT snaps and black oxide Chicago Screws. I'm hoping to find some black oxide tubular rivets as well. I'd like to add a metal eyelet/grommet to the bottom lanyard hole, but haven't found any long enough yet. The sheath has a filler along the back of the sheath to help protect the stitching from the blade. Stitching is a little rough in a couple of spots, which is my fault for getting in a hurry on a new machine I'm not used to yet. Any feedback would be helpful.
  6.   Weapon retention skills are fairly simple.  Cover the holster with your hands and tuck it into your body as best you can and use hard blows to the attacker's arms to keep them from gaining control.  Disarming techniques are more difficult and even highly skilled LEOs know it's difficult to disarm someone unless the conditions are ideal, thus disarming someone is considered an absolute last resort approach.
  7.   Of course, I think a good argument could be made that someone trying to steal your firearm constitutes a situation where response with deadly force could be lawfully applied.  I don't think it's much of a stretch at all to make a presumption that a person willing to steal a firearm from someone's person is very likely to then use the firearm to do harm to the victim.  We know that it is not unheard of for LEOs to be killed with their own firearm after being disarmed.  If I am approached by two aggressors who demand my firearm, they are very likely to get it bullets first if I have no other option.  I am not surrendering my firearm at the risk of being shot and killed with it.
  8. I would like to delete the logo from my damascus blade as well.
  9. So once this takes effect, what are the benefits of having an NFA trust?  I'm seriously considering declaring one to get in under the wire for my first SBR, but if it's ultimately a waste of time, I'll just go the traditional route.
  10. I've been asked and I figure that question is not relevant or necessary for my doctor to provide medical care, thus I do not provide an affirmative answer.  That is none of their business as far as I am concerned.  If they are worried about gun safety or the potential for someone to use a firearm to harm themselves or others, they are better off doing what the police do and go ahead and assume all people have guns and respond accordingly.
  11. I reload as much for the enjoyment of it as I do trying to save any money.  Like many other reloaders out there, I find something calming and satisfying about making my own ammunition.  Worth every penny I spend on reloading equipment.
  12. Terrible situation.  I'd also venture a guess that these kids were never taught proper gun safety.  My 4 year old already knows the first rule for kids when it comes to guns: If you see a gun you don't touch it and get an adult.  My son knows to never touch any of my firearms, including the fake plastic ones I use for making holsters.  I also allow him to handle my actual firearms after I've unloaded them and only under my supervision so that his curiosity won't get the better of his judgement.  I've read similar stories about LEOs leaving their duty belt accessible to kids who were able to get the gun out of the holster and fired off a shot, so it goes to show that even the most experienced gun owners can fall victim to complacency.  A lesson for all of us to be sure.
  13. That's nothing new.  I've been keeping mine there for years now.
  14.   Just filter it with your LifeStraw and you'll be fine.
  15.   I agree totally.  Of course, the Republicans are trying desperately to get one giant sophomoric stunt elected POTUS, so things like this don't surprise me.
  16. It does when you just bought the rifle a couple of days ago and don't have $150+ to drop on a case just yet.  I just want a couple of boxes to run out to the range and try it out.  I presumed that I would be able to at least find a handful of the 20 round boxes somewhere.  I'm just surprised that there is so much 5.56mm around but not 7.62x39mm.  I'll definitely pick up some of the sealed bulk spam cans as time passes.
  17.   Yeah, I have plenty of my other calibers, just no food for this new rifle.   :surrender:
  18. Been to a few places around Knoxville and all I can find is the bulk ammo, but plenty of .223/5.56mm to be found.  I reckon I'll just have to order some.
  19. I finally got an AK and there is no 7.62x39 ammo to be found anywhere except in 1000 round bulk cases. Is this a recent thing or still a shortage from the panic?
  20.   Incidentally, he probably also thinks it's his duty as a citizen to open carry an AR-15 into a Starbucks, but I digress.
  21. Not only is a civilian not obligated to engage an active shooter, sworn LEOs do not have a mandated legal duty to do so.  The US Supreme Court has ruled several times that there is no constitutionally required duty to protect individuals from harm.   I have a similar personal philosophy as others here.  First and foremost, I am going to protect myself and my family.  If I can minimize my personal risk and save innocent lives by engaging, I may choose to do that.
  22. I make holsters and I think that is a very nice looking piece of work.
