In full disclosure, I also commented about his 5% discount for Christians promotion, which I personally think is crummy. Exercising one's Second Amendment rights is not a religion thing. Obviously, as a business owner he is free to offer discounts as he sees fit, but I also have the freedom to voice my displeasure over it. If anyone here is a FB user and is so inclined to share their feelings, both positive and negative, the store's FB page is: https://www.facebook.com/Frontier-Firearms-341898375837583/

A couple of days ago the Facebook page for Frontier Firearms appeared in my "suggested pages" feed and I chose to leave a negative review based on some negative interactions I have have with that business and the owner. In it, I discussed a very bad experience my wife and I had over a special order she placed there 3 or 4 years ago (apparently negative experiences have an expiration date according to the owner). I also made a reference to the owner's lousy attitude in the infamous Frontier Firearms thread on here as evidence of how he does not seem to have much respect for customers. In response to this review, he left a very lengthy reply attacking me and my credibility, plus he actively sought out web pages related to my hobby leather business and a GoFundMe account I established with three other people to raise start-up capital for a nonprofit that we have registered with the Tennessee Secretary of State's Office. In short, he has reinforced everything I ever had to gripe about. Just be forewarned, if you complain on his Facebook page, be ready to get blasted from all angles, including malicious attacks on your personal and business affairs. In my case, he accused me of being a tax cheat and a criminal who is trying to defraud people with a fake nonprofit.

22LR ammo....now if the price will just drop!!!
Under-No-Pretext replied to Randall53's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
But if supply is plentiful, people will NOT be happy paying a higher price. The laws of supply and demand will determine the proper price in time. -
Looks like that pretty well puts to rest the old argument that a .380 round won't penetrate deep enough to be effective. Those data also tell me that I would be just fine shooting 115 grain Gold Dot rounds rather than 124 or 147 grain. Interesting results.

TGO Punisher TR4 Official thread
Under-No-Pretext replied to willis68's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
Mine will be to you by the end of this week. If anyone backs out, they would be perfect candidates for TGO David's new Wall of Shame he's thinking about doing. -
Gun Violence in Chicago -Where is the outrage?
Under-No-Pretext replied to polecat's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Actually, that statement isn't totally accurate. A black defendant is far more likely to get the death penalty if the victim is white than if the victim is black. The same holds true for a white defendant. If a white person kills a black person, they are not as likely to get the death penalty than if they kill a white person. In reference to the criminal justice system, black lives don't matter as much as white lives and the fact that politicians and the media don't pay attention to the high rate of violence within the black community is proof of that. -
So I am thinking about starting a TGO Hall of Shame

Go for it. I know of other forums that do this, and they include banned members with the reason for banning them (including quotes). :hiding: -
I thought about it at one point, but talked to a co-worker of mine who did it and realized it was about as wise as playing the lottery. He'd lost thousands of dollars investing in the "next sure thing."

Edge has some cool features, but I have found that a lot of websites don't fully support it yet. I have noticed an improvement over the days following its initial release. That said, I typically use Firefox.

Prototype for Hatchet Sheath - Suggestions?
Under-No-Pretext replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
Here's one I made up to sell on Etsy. It fits a Gransfors Bruk Small Forest Axe. I'm contemplating whether I should add a couple of small D rings to the back so it could be more easily lashed to a pack. -

Then he should have gone into the lobby. -

Sanders moderate gun record
Under-No-Pretext replied to NextExit's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, truth be told and in all fairness, in comparison to some of his Democratic counterparts, he is pretty moderate. Just the other day he gave a speech indicating he does not support lawsuits against gun store owners if a gun they sell is used in a crime (assuming the gun shop followed the laws). -
Prototype for Hatchet Sheath - Suggestions?
Under-No-Pretext replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
The version I came up with can be done with one hand. You unsnap the strap and then with the open back, you can rotate the hatchet out of the sheath by rocking the handle forward. -

That's a good idea. I think one of the places I get my hardware from actually has some swivel hardware that would work for that. -

I've seen those made with kydex and my SOG Voodoo Hawk has a unimpressive nylon verson. I think it would be fairly easy to do, so I'll give one of those a shot today. Thanks for the input! EDIT: Here is what I came up with. Needs a couple of tweaks, but I think I'm on the right track: -

Critique my "get home" bag
Under-No-Pretext replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I think this is a fair statement and I alluded to that earlier, although not as clearly. My goal is to have plenty of stuff on hand and then I can pick and choose what I feel like I need based on the circumstances. So as a "get home" bag, it probably wouldn't need much of that stuff unless I had a LONG hike, which isn't typical for me since I am usually around populated urban areas. I also looked at a titanium cup and it would save me about 3 ounces. I'll likely pick one up eventually, but I think my next priority needs to be a good handheld GPS. -

I have that covered. I just didn't feel the need to specify. Most of the time I have a Walther PPS with a couple of spare mags. -
Prototype for Hatchet Sheath - Suggestions?
Under-No-Pretext replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I already pulled that one off and added a wider loop of a different construction, but I think that is a good idea. -
I'm planning to make some belt sheaths for various hatchets and small axes and I made this prototype for my Wetterling's #115 Hunter's Hatchet. I'm looking for some feedback on it, including suggestions for improving the design. It's made with heavyweight saddle leather has a filler along the blade edge. I'm thinking the belt loop on the back can be improved by sewing/riveting on a wider loop. Any other thoughts?

Critique my "get home" bag
Under-No-Pretext replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in Survival and Preparedness
OK, since I wrote this last night, I've already tweaked it a bit and shaved the waist pack weight down to 5 lbs 6 ounces. I did this by dumping the Nalgene bottle for a folding 1L Platypus bottle that I had, which is actually better since the Frontier Pro filter will screw onto that bottle. I also dumped the Esbit stove and fuel for the little Wetfire stove and fuel cubes I had put away. The stove works fine with the cup I have in the bag and the Wetfire cubes can be started with a spark whereas the Esbit cubes don't. I always read about these ultralight hikers who weighed every piece of gear and obsessed over weight and never thought I'd be that bad, but I have started to get that way. :surrender:
