  1. Had a person come over last weekend. He was irate, yelling and cussing about me shooting so much. He said he couldn't understand how anyone could afford to shoot as much as I do. He said he was going to call the law because I won't stop shooting when he is on his property. He is only here on his property a couple of days a week. He is probably going to be really upset when he builds his house and realizes I shoot 5 days a week and over 1,000 rounds a week. I walked him off the property but as he was getting into his car he said I had illegal high powered machine guns. That particular day I was letting a few kids shoot my wife's semi 9mm AR. He also said somebody needs to know about it. Anti's crack me up because every gun is a machine gun and every caliber is a high powered one. Dolomite
  2. Any increase in velocity from a longer barrel is a step in the right direction. The reason? A double in velocity increases kinetic energy by a factor of four yet doubling the weight only doubles the kinetic energy. So increasing the velocity increases any gains in kinetic energy by a factor of 4 compared to increasing bullet weight alone. The kinetic energy is what is used to do the work. I would go with a lighter bullet rather than heavier one and increase velocity. I would take the lightweight bullet, add a hardened penetrator and push it as hard and as fast as the weapon would allow. Couple this with a slower twist rate and you would have a more effective round than what we are using now. The additional velocity coupled with the slower twist would make for an unstable round in soft tissure. The extra velocity would also help the bullet disrupt and thus increasing the wound channel. It would also help with over penetration in soft tissue. As far as the question I do not believe an extra inch or two is going to overcome most of the limitations we are seeing. Not because of the barrel length but because of the twist rates and the heavy bullet weights that are so common these days. If I had to use a 10.5 inch barrel I would either use a different caliber or load some lightweight bullets to the max. The problem is the powers that be are trying to take a 200-300 yard cartridge and turn it into a 500+ yard cartridge. Now to get the extra distance they are sacrificing a lot in both long an short range perfromance. They need to stick to its original design specifications for a short range gun. If they want a long range gun then use a long range caliber. If they are worried about the extra weight then use a 6mm or 6.5mm bullet. They can be had with a long for caliber profile that helps ballistics. And a decent 6mm bullet is hardly heavier than the heavy 77 grain bullets the 223 uses for long range performance. Dolomtie
  3. He always uses CCI standard velocity. The muzzle velocity is listed at 1070 fps so temperature and elevation could, in theory, raise it enough to go supersonic. Dolomite
  4. The officers had a legal right to enter Jose's home. Jose had no legal right to resist the officer's attempt to enter into his home. When Jose resisted the officers with a firearm they are legally allowed to protect themselves from Jose but Jose on the other hand is not allowed to protect himself from officers who are legally allowed to be there. The only person who did something illegal was Jose and it cost him his life. Had the officers made a mistake maybe things would be different but the officers, the administration and the judge, who allowed the officers to legally be there, did nothing wrong. Everything was done correctly as far as I could tell, they announced, knocked and then entered. They even spoke to the the wife before entering. She had every opportunity to tell her husband is was LE, maybe she did and maybe she didn't but either way Jose chose to point a firearm at LE and repeatedly say "I've got something for you". His actions resulted in his death. And realistically knowing he probably has pending gun charges I would consider this a high risk warrant and use SWAT. I do not like using SWAT for most drug related search warrants unless there are other circumstances that increase the likelihood of violence. A in this case I think it was warranted. As much as I hate to say it we have no legal right to resist officers whether they are legally right or legally wrong. Even if you know the officer is dead wrong in his actions you have no legal right to resist. You have a legal right to go to court later and seek justice but not at the time of the incident. Dolomite
  5. If I were to venture a guess either China or Russia. China exports a lot of arms to a lot of nations. I wish we would lift the ban on Chinese firearms and ammunition. I wouldn't mid picking up a few dozen Norinco 1911's or a Norinco M-14. Dolomite
  6. Those are some of the best sub $200 scopes out there for an AR. I have heard nothing but great things about them. Dolomite
  7. So how much was your bond? There is no way you walked into a station or anywhere else for that matter and said ordid what you say. Nothing against you but it doesn't happen like that at least not unless you are higher up in the food chain but even then it is very, very questionable. And from the sounds of it you weren't in the car either. So you wife probably got her feelings hurt, embellished a bit and you got upset. Understandable. But there is no way you pinned an officer in the corner, made threats and then he did nothing but appologize. Doesn't make sense so it didn't happen the way you say. Had you done exactly like you say you would have been arrested. Dolomite
  8. The AAC Element is actually 25th down from the top when attached to a rifle but number 2 on a pistol. The db reading is 118.5 on a rifle and 115.9 on a pistol. I suspect the bullet may be supersonic and that is the reason for the additional noise. Dolomite
  9. Did you read the warrant? They had months of surveillance leading up to the raid. The wife was not supposed to be there based on that surveillance. Also, Jose had previously been arrested on weapons and drug charges. Based on the timeframe of those charges he was probably out on bond and the charges were probably still pending. I would even venture a guess that he hadn't even been to trial on them so he probably hadn't been found innocent or guilty yet. Remember it takes months and sometimes years before someone goes to trial, especially if they have been released on bond. Generally part of the bond agreement is the criminal must waive the right to a speedy trial which slows the process to a snails pace for most. People keep saying to do a traffic stop. People need to realize there are several reasons why traffic stops are not used. One reason why a traffic stop may not work is this. Criminals tail themselves all the time. The reason is it is unlikely two seperate vehicles will be pulled over at the same time. If Jose had been pulled over and he had a tail the tail would have called associates to have any evidence moved or destroyed during the time it took to complete the traffic stop and then move to the residence. Another reason is imagine if this same situation had played out on a busy street. All those rounds would have went somewhere. There would have been a lot more people involved and possibly injured. Traffic stops are not always the answer. The biggest reason for the raid being conducted that way was so there was no chance, hopefully, of evidence being destroyed. I believe there was some evidence that was at the scene that the wife destroyed in the 7 minutes it took her to come out because she probably didn't want to go to jail for something her husband was into. The officers did not immediately enter after the shooting. They backed out to regroup because they were unsure who else was present in the home. Between the time the team backed out and when she came out of the residence it was 7 minutes. It was during this time that the wife remained in the residence. 7 minutes is a long time and definitely enough time to destroy evidence. I'll try to find it again but there is a 28 minute audio tape of the situation. It lays out things a lot clearer than the 1 minute youtube video. The officers didn't want to shoot Jose. Jose didn't want to be shot. In the end the person who was responsible for all of this was Jose. Woulda, coulda, shoulda doesn't mean squat because it was Jose who pointed a firearm at officers. The officers had a legal right to be there as well as enter his home. The officers also had a legal right to defend themselves. Jose on the other hand had no legal right to defend himself from the officers. Even if the search or subsequent arrest was wrong Jose had no legal right to resist. He has to accept it then fight it later in court. Dolomite And just to reiterate I have been accused of being a basher in the past. I guess I am but what I bash are idiots whether they wear a uniform or not. There are rules and laws for a reason and when we start bending them to accomodate the criminals we have all lost.
  10. There are differences in how a suppressor performs and as such a good rifle suppressor may not be the best for a pistol and vice versa. These are the two top ones when fired on a P22. Model: AAC Aviator Material: Aluminum Take Apart: No Suppressed: 115.9 Model: AAC Element Material: Stainless Steel Take Apart: Yes Suppressed: 115.9 Neither of these on in the top 10 when used on a rifle. I have spoken to a few suppressor makers about aluminum for suppressors and they indicated that aluminum cans can work harden and crack. They recommended a stainless can, even for a 22. If you are going to be spending the money on a suppressor I would spend the $24 for a membership at silencer research. It can save you the heartache of buying a crappy suppressor. Hope this helps. 11. Before SWAT the country wasn't like it is today. People respected LE and feared them but in a different way. Today the only fear is of being caught and bad guys will fight it out to make sure they don't go to jail. Back when we were young you never heard of raids and in most cases word of mouth brought the bad guy to turn himself in out of shame for his family. As I said before I do not agree that SWAT should be used in a case like this. Especially since there was tons of documentation into how he operated on a daily basis. But I suspect if a regular officer had attempted to do the same thing it would have been an officer dead that day. What I will say is the officers were definitely not at fault. We are all acting like Jose was an innocent in all of this. He was not, he and his widow are the ones to blame for what happened in that house. The children are innocent in all of this but the rest of the family are not. The brother, father as well as numerous other relatives were also involved. Jose and his widow made choices, dozens of them, to get them to where they are now. They could have, at any point, used the word "NO" when asked to be involved in illegal activities and that choice would have meant Jose would be breathing today. It is unfortunate that someone lost their life but SWAT being there to execute the warrant isn't the reason why he died, maybe the cause of his death but not the reason. He died because he was involved in a criminal activity. Had he just said "NO" he would be alive today. Dolomite
  12. I am not sure why you need a headspace gauge or the need to measure your chamber. The headspace is already set on your rifles. I would just do what I said and use a Lee collet die then use a Redding body die when sizing for your AR. By separating those operations you will see a significant increase in brass life compared to a all-in-one die. and you won't have theproblems of neck sizing only in an auto. Neck sizing only for an AR can be problematic or at least it was for me. Once I added the body die to the mix everything was great. Neck sizing works great in bolt guns. The reason is if the case swells a little you can leverage close the bolt on the round. With an auto and even an AR you will only stick a live round in the chamber. You can't apply enough force to the forward assist to seat the round and bolt most times. If you want I can call and talk to you about this and my experiences reloading. Dolomite
  13. +1,000 A lot of detail compared to most warrants. Dolomite
  14. Lines 275, 276, 277 and 278 of the warrant indicate Jose Guerena was arrested on 5 felony counts involving drugs and weapons charges. Hardly an angel. He owns vehicles values at over $105,000. On a salarly of $41,000 before taxes. He also OWNS the house that is valued at $105,000+. He has been in the same vehicle as KNOWN drug dealers who happen to be part of his family. Two drug dealers left a 1,000 pound drop off at a stash house then went to Jose's house immediately after. Kind of an odd place for drugs dealers to go if Jose is an innocent victim here. It was also noted he was very uncooperative with agents. He keeps a lot of drug dealing thug types for friends. It is all in the warrant. Dolomite
  15. The writer of the article is an idiot that obviously has no clue about firearms. Claiming a AR has very low muzzle blast is idiotic especially when you are talking about the weapons they use for entry with shorter barrels. Watch the video, not a single AR was used. It was all handguns. Dolomite
  16. It seems everyone has a problem with the number of shots fired. Please, for us who obviously don't know, what is the correct amount of rounds it takes to remove a threat? She knew the officers were there. She has made a statement that she told them to "don't kill me because I have children". That is an odd statement to make to an officer unless you know something bad is about to happen. When was the last time anyone here greeted an officer with the words "don't kill me"? This is not the officers statement this is HER statement to reporters. I find it hard to believe to she was able to talk to an officer and not know it is an officer. Especially when everybody and their mother it seems was yelling "Police, Search Warrant!". Could the preplanning have been better, of course but as far as the timing of the raid goes it couldn't have been any better. The man was sleeping which is about the best time to hit a residence. And then there was the fact it was daytime which helps the officers identify and conduct operations in a safer manner than during the night. The wife wasn't supposed to be there and had she not been we wouldn't be 8 pages into this discussion because it would have been an uneventful raid. I do not like the use of SWAT or any other special teams to serve search warrants unless it is known, without a doubt, the person being served has been violent in the past. Personally I believe SWAT should only be used to save lives. Not to serve search warrants. What happened is unfortunate but his wife is hardly the victim here, nor was her husband. The child yes but not the parents. I am the farthest from being pro LE. I have worked in LE for a better part of my life. I will not tolerate and did not tolerate officers the brought discredit upon the uniform. But in this case the officers did nothing wrong. And as I said before LE doesn't just randomly pick your name out of a hat and then serve a search warrant, doesn't happen. Despite what the family has said there was a reason for the officers to be there regardless of whether there was any evidence left at the scene or not. I suspect all officers will be cleared of anyu wrong doing. The family will receive a minor settlement because it will be cheaper than preparing for trial. ANd then taking a chance on the jury which it seems overwhelmingly against LE. That is unless it is you on the other end of the 911 call. Again I am not pro LE. I have even been accused of being a basher. I do bash bt only those who are repsonsible, whether it be LE or anyone else. Dolomite
  17. You would better better served using the flat back vs round back. There was a major change over at Savage. After the change over they went to a round back receiver and dropped the flat back receivers. Savage will not warranty any more flat back receiver guns. In 2003, Savage introduced their new ACCU-TRIGGER models. Besides the trigger change, the receiver now has a round top in the rear scope base area. It will utilize the same base in the rear as in the front. Dolomite
  18. I have had a 2-7 Burris on an AR then had a picatinny mount that clamped to the scope tube mounted to the scope. I mounted a Burris Fastfire on the picatinny at about a 45 degree angle. You could have it right above or any angle to about 90 degrees. It worked well for me and I planned on using it overseas but never had a chance to. This is the mount I used: SAR1 (1") ‹ Catalog Products ‹ Products ‹ Tactical Night Vision Company It clamps to the scope tube. Dolomite
  19. And even when the admin is wrong who do you think pays the settlement? It is the tax payers. Either with higher taxes or reduced services county or city wide. Dolomite
  20. And it is easier on the gun as well. It also, at least for me, seems to soften the recoil impulse. The ones I have had were just as reliable as carbine length systems. Dolomite
  21. I would say 14.5" would be the minimum for anything out to 200 yards. I know for a fact that 10.5" guns aren't really effective beyond 100 yards using standard FMJ type ammunition. You can extend the effective range a bit with quality ammo like TAP rounds which are polymer tipped rounds. Forget about 7.5" guns as they aren't much more than a 25 yard guns when using FMJ ammunition. The reason is there isn't enough velocity from the shorter barrels for the bullet to fragment upon impact and unless the bulelt tumbles it will just pass right through making a nice, neat 1/4" hole. Personally I would consider a 16" gun the minimum length. And if you don't plan on carrying it much or clearing building I would even go longer. Velocity is your friend and whatever you can do to increase velocity is a good thing. If I had to have a short gun like a 7.5" or even a 10.5" I would consider a different caliber that uses the shorter barrels more effectively. 6.8, 7.62x39 or even some pistol calibers are more effective than the 5.56 in 7.5" or 10.5" barrels. 22. The Democratic party from Lincoln's time is more Republican than today's Democrats. Hell they were probably even more Republican than the Republicans of today. I worked with a friend who was a "true southern Democrat". He built AK's, hunted, fished and spent the majority of his life in the military (Special Forces to be exact). He would say that even though he was a registered Democrat he always voted Republican because they are closer to what a true Democrat should be. He even said that he was more conservative than most of the Repulicans in office today. Your friend needs to go back and look at the ideals and values from back in Lincoln's time. After that he needs to vote according to those values regardless of the party. It wasn't until the 1900's that the Democratic party took the turn that lead them to where they are today. I would gladly take a 1860's Democrat over a twentieth century Republican. Dolomite
  23. My wife has decided she needs a pink Taurus 24/7. After shooting my tan OSS she loves the 24/7. I have looked high and low and the only thing I can find is one in 40 S&W or the DAO version. She needs the DA/SA version. If anyone knows of any either locally or online please let me know. Thanks Dolomite
  24. Glad to hear it. I personally like SS over chrome lined. Something you need to realize is that most uppers are forged and made by the same people then sold to different makers. I suspect yours will have the keyhole forge mark which is what in on S&W's and Spikes as well as a few other high end guns. As far as barrels go there are a bit more makers of barrels out there but most who sell barrels to the public also have government contracts for the same barrels. And with that a certain level of quality is inherently there. You would be surprized at who makes the barrels for some of the high end guns, I know I was. Glad you changed your mind on the Ti BCG. Chrome is the better option. I will try to get the trigger kit out to you this week. I have a lot of other stuff going on with my health but I plan to get out tomorrow. The biggest obstacle is writing instructions but I will probably just have you call me when you get ready to install it. Dolomite
