What is Buford Tune's background? Just curious what qualifications or experience he has, other than being arrogant, for him to be teaching others? It would be interesting to hear if he has any military background. Dolomite Neverimind I found it: http://www.appstraining.com/resumebtune%2011-05.pdf Here is his Facebook page in case anyone wanted to wish his pinky well Buford Tune | Facebook -

If you slow down the bullets velocity it will increase in penetration. A slow projectile will travel a lot farther in water than a fast one. I guarantee a 45 ACP 230 grain FMJ at 850 fps would travel farther underwater than a FMJ 115 grain 9mm at 1200 fps. To add a bit more to it if you can lengthen the bullet's length relative to its weight it will increase penetration as well. That 230 grain 45 bullet will travel so far but if you take a 230 grain bullet in 30 caliber it will go much farther. Or imagine an arrow, it will travel very far in water but if you take a bullet of the same weight yet higher caliber and higher velocity and it will not penetrate as much. An experiment I did a few years back: I loaded a 95 grain 9mm at what I would consider normal velocty range for it. It traveled though a few jugs of water without issue. I took that same exact bullet and pushed it to 2,000 fps out of a rifle and it never made it out of the first just. An increase in velocity causes and increase in resistance. Dolomite

I will sit tight where I am and probably stay pretty safe. After all most people are in urban areas or will flock to the urban areas. And the zombies will go to where the food source it. Anybody in a population center is going to have to compete with others for safety, shelter, food and transportation. Me on the other hand won;t ahve to compete with anyone for any of these items for a very long time and hopefully by then most of my competitors would have been eaten. Dolomite

Just curious what everyone's plans are today? Me, I am gonig to probably sit around, clean some guns and load some mags. The cleanings are long over due. After that I will probably take a nap and hope I wake up. Dolomite

And give us all a reason why someone should. $53 is a lot of money for most to spend on someone they don't know. Dolomite

Gun City Incident
Dolomite_supafly replied to Rangemeister's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Personally if I have a dead round I will just clear it and put a fresh on in the chamber but I have had a lot of training that enables me to do this without much thought. I can see a person realtively new to firearms or one that hasn't practiced a lot defaulting into pulling the trigger over and over again under the stress of a gunfight. I have practiced clearing duds to make the process second nature for me. I think the second strike capability is over advertised because the odds of getting into a gunfight are remote enough without having a dud round. The odds of both happening are so astronomical that designing a weapon to be able to do this seems like nothing more than a advertising gimic to me. I realize having a dud round does happen but with modern ammunition it is such a rarity. I like the feature but in all likelyhood I would never use it or at least try to rely on it. Even when I am shooting and training with my 24/7 OSS DS I never use the second strike feature for fear of defaulting to that rather than clearing the dud and continuing the fight. I liken the 24/7's function to that of a Beretta 92. You can second strike with it as well but in the military we always trained to clear the malfunction. When we had 45's we did the same thing, clear the malfunction rather than try to recock it. Dolomite -
Round count so far. You have had it long enough to get at least 10K rounds through it. Dolomite

24/7's do have a second strike like a true double action. Or at least some of them do. Mine is a 24/7 OSS DS which is SA/DA like a tradition pistol. I can decock it to go from SA to DA but after firing it goes into SA mode. I really like the pistol other than the fact the trigger doesn't stay in the rear position in SA mode. You still have a long take up but it is extremely light. Even DA is extremely light. You can pull the trigger rearward, apply the safety and the trigger will stay back but if you release the safety it will move to the forward position. Dolomite -
Or make a load using multiple items, perhaps media on the bottom then rice on the top. Get the best of both worlds. Seems to be the trend in defensive shotgun ammo so it should work as well to defend against insects. In a long case lie a 357 you could even do a load with an airsoft BB as well to get everything from short range to long range providing the load was reasonably accurate. Dolomite

I heard the ATF outlawed those Saiga boxes for importation anymore. Dolomite

Starbucks pro gun?
Dolomite_supafly replied to nhanthavong's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It appeared that there was no drama but what it was is they were all frozen with fear. The second you left they all were able to breath a sigh of relief and began to pat each other on their backs while they sung kumbaya. They were celebrating their victory in saving their lives from you, the crazed gunman. Dolomite -
What is driving all the no weapons policies by companies is one thing. Law suits and not by the good guys but by the bad guys or their families. If a would be criminal comes in to commit a crime and gets injured or killed someone is guranteed to sue the company on his behalf. If an employee gets killed then there is social security and worker's compensation. So it is cheaper for the company to let an employee get killed than defend a wrongful death law suit by a would be criminal's family. This is from a few years ago but I was told to defend against law suit was very expensive. Even if the case was thrown out at the first hearing I was told it cost over $20,000 just to prepare for that first hearing. And in the off chance the trial went ahead and the bad guy won there could be a multi million judgement against the company. An employee can't sue the employer for something a criminal does in the store but a bad guy sure can sue the company over what the employee has done because the employee is an agent of the company. It is all a matter of money and what ever is cheaper for the company is the route they will take. What needs to happen is the laws changed so that the person who was injured or killed could not sue if they were injured or killed during the commision of a crime, any crime. Also, no one else could bring a law suit on behalf of the criminal or the criminal's family. Additionally, if the company restricts an employee's ability to defend themselves then the company should be liable for any and all damages if it is proven a weapon would have more likely than not prevented the damages. This would take the liability away from the comapnies and make them rethink their no weapons policies. Dolomite

Gun City Incident
Dolomite_supafly replied to Rangemeister's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I am going with the pulling the trigger theory. The reason is it doesn't take much to get a gun out of battery. And if out of battery the gun shouldn't fire. Even if it did fire out of battery the barrel would have moved down and out of the way of the firing pin before the slide moved very far. Takes very little to get to a point where the primer will not be struck. I bet he went to clear it but pulled the trigger when getting a good grip on the gun. The only way you could convince me otherwise is a scanned copy of the letter from the gun's maker stating there was a problem with the gun. Dolomite -
Would you take sea shells as payment? After all they have to be rare because we are a landlocked state. Honestly when was the last time you seen any sea shells for sale so they must be very, very rare right? Dolomite

Starbucks pro gun?
Dolomite_supafly replied to nhanthavong's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If you have a problem with them complain. They will make you a fresh cup and give you a coupon for a free cup next time you walk in. Personally I spend a lot more in Starbuck's than I probably need to but they do make a good cup of coffee. Dolomite -
Pictures: Muzzle Brake: Machined it to fit inside the free float tube. The barrel and rails do not touch anything. HK rear sight with a QD knob I made: Dolomite

I saw these at a local shop but I am not going to spend the $30 per box they were asking. CCI Minimag solids are cheaper and have a better track record. Dolomite

Starbucks pro gun?
Dolomite_supafly replied to nhanthavong's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Starbucks has publicly said they would not post signs preventing guns in their shops. With that being said I wouldn't open carry there for the simple fact that Starbuck's tends to be heavily populated with liberal, anti gun types. A few people walking in with firearms openly carried would probably make them run around like their hair was on fire. This would cause a sitraction to all those who are in there writting the next great screenplay (that is what they all day isn't it?). Dolomite -
A friend of mine was out shooting old junk cars in the desert. He was using a shotgun with carious loads from birdshot to 00 buck. He said he squared up and shot at a mastercylinder power booster. He said the majority of the shot came back and lodged in his stomache. He stumbled back to his car as he was bleeding profusely. He hopped in and tried to start the car, nothing. He had been working on the starter earlier in the day so he climbed under the car and began to wiggle wires and finally got the car started. He said he spent a few days in the hospital after surgery. Doctors to him it was close because of all the blood he had lost. Not really hit by a bullet but this resulted in an injury. While in the military we were at a range teaching privates how to load and fire the M60 machine gun. We were teaching using blanks so if anything odd happened no one should get hurt. And as anyone who has been in the military knows the blank adapters for the M60 had problems. Well one private was having problems with the MG cycling, an indication that the blank adapter had again worked loose. A SSG was working on the blank adapter under the assumption the gun had been cleared and even if it hadn't how dangerous was a malfunctioning gun shooting blanks could be? Well the SSG told the private "NO" as the private reached for the trigger. The private, because of the hearing protection, heard "GO" and pulled the trigger. We the MG did function for at least one round. Turned out the SSG had his finger either in front of or covering the opening in the end of the blank adapter. Took off about 1/2 his finger but the sad part was that the blast blew up the middle joint of the finger. The doctors told him they couldn't attache the finger again or if they did it owuld be useless anyways because of the extent of the damage. Then there was the endless supply of Afghan police officers. At least every other week one had shot himself in the ass while holstering. Funny part was they were using S&W Sigmas with what had to be a 15 pound trigger. I could never figure out how they did it but they did. Dolomite

I have HK rear sight on one of my rilfes. I like it but I like the Matech sights better if you are going to only use irons. The reason is most irons do not allow you to dial elevation like a Matech does. Another thing is the Matechs are about 1/2 what a set of Troy sights run. Dolomite

My landloord when I used to rent built pallets. He had a nail go in under the skin of one of his fingers. The nail didn't come back out but stayed under the skin and wrapped around the bone just under the skin. Took a pretty substantial surgery to remove it. Dolomite

CDC Warns Public to Prepare for 'Zombie Apocalypse'
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in General Chat
I just loaded about 400 45 ACP rounds after reading this. Not a lot but it was all the small primer brass I have. I guess I could break out my large primer brass and continue. And as far as camps go it would be like a dinner buffet to the zombies. The zombies will wait for a chance to get in and if they did all campers would be gone very quickly. I will sit tight where I am and probably stay pretty safe. After all most people are in urban areas or will flock to the urban areas. And the zombies will go to where the food source it. Dolomite -
Sounds like the guy is an idiot. Multiple AD's/ND's by anyone should make them realize that firearms are not their forte. Maybe he should take up knitting classes, less dangerous, oh wait he might put his eye out. Dolomite
