  1. I don't believe this story one bit. Do you mean to tell us that you went to a picnic, ate food, and tossed a football around while armed and NOBODY was shot? I call on this one. I watch the news. I know how those things work. I bet you're one of those people that have those illegal hollow-point bullets in it. Seriously, congrats on exposing someone to the reality of safe gun ownership, even if you didn't mean to.
  2. I understand the pricing adjustment takes time. I wasn't mentioning it to say "come on man! everyone else is saying they're high. Why don't you have it fixed yet, 2 days later?" I was mentioning it more as an "I agree with the previous posters on this".
  3. I see a few listed on gunbroker right now from $150-$200, but they have 0 bids at those prices. You may want to watch those and see if any bids come in as the auctions get closer to their end date. That can give you an idea of the value. If they don't sell at all, then you can infer that those asking prices are too high. My gut feeling says that 56FordGuy is right on, but with auctions, you never know. You may have already seen it, but just in case, take a quick look at this sticky thread to keep from running into any TGO protocol violations and a subsequent thump upside the head from a Moderator. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/33631-read-first-before-posting-how-much-my-gun-worth-thread.html
  4. Patrick Stegall is a TGO Supporting Vendor too (as is Chip Cain). Patrick's in Memphis and does trusts. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/stegall-law-firm/55422-stegall-law-now-does-gun-trusts.html
  5. ROFLMAO!!!! Dang it rebeldrummer! I just spit Coke all over myself.
  6. Review #2 I stopped in the store on Friday afternoon about 5:00'ish for the second chance. 2 people working the counters, both with customers. I didn't seek out GAD and let him know who I was. I wanted to see what Joe-blow customer would see, not what "monkeylizard, Internet critic with a personal invite back from the manager" would see. Another customer was looking at some holsters. Once one of the guys finished with his customer, I was asked if I would like to look at anything. He was friendly and engaging. I'd been in the store for about 5 minutes at that point and had browsed through every handgun in the cases. Twice. Still, it was an improvement over my first visit. Unless they get as busy as Guns & Leather on a Saturday at the Greenbriar store, there's no reason not to say "hi, if you need anything let us know" , or at least "Welcome to Guns and Ammo" as people come in the door. Always acknowledge the customer when she/he comes in. Just a tip to keep the service trending upwards. The guys and girls making my burrito still manage to shout out "Welcome to Moe's!" when I walk in and am #12 in line and they're elbow deep in tortillas and guacamole. GAD601, you guys have got to figure out how to source this stuff better so you can price it better if you're going to earn my business. I know what this stuff sells for at your competition. Even if customer service improves a lot (and I'll say that it's trending that way), pricing is going to keep me away. The type of inventory you're keeping puts you up against Nashville Sporting Arms, Guns and Leather, D&T, Goodlettsville Gun shop, Guns For America, etc. Then you have the online world of Bud's, GlockWorld, and Cheaper Than Dirt. With your used inventory, you're competing with all of the above, plus gunbroker.com, and sites like TGO that have a trading/selling forum for their members. You're also competing with Wal-Mart for mainstream caliber, target grade ammo. I know that's a tough one for anyone to come anywhere close to. I've not seen a shop yet that can do that on a regular basis (specialty/self-defense ammo excluded) but none of my regular stops have stuff that's way off of Wal-Mart's prices. I may have misread the tag, but I'm pretty sure I saw a box of Tula (or Wolf) .223 for $12.99. Please, correct me if I'm wrong about the price or the brand. That steel stuff is $3.99 online and around $5.99 at Wally World and Academy every day. Even if I was wrong and it was brass cased, $12.99 is still steep. Personally the only things I saw that I thought had a good price were the olive green ammo boxes. There was a good selection of holsters on the wall. I didn't look too closely as I'm not in the market for any right now, so I can't say anything about the brand(s) or prices. <<< I was re-reading this thread before hitting the POST button. ....GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY ! $40 for an FFL transfer? Really? >> This reinforces my point that you guys need to learn about the competition.
  7. So it's "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" eh? Maybe I'll get my ears lowered and skip the second part of that OHB tour afterall.
  8. That would be www.budsgunshop.com I picked up my first 91/30 from Goodlettsville Gun Shop a few weeks ago. $100 out the door. I've seen similar specials at GnL and other local shops. They go fast. Watching the local dealers' forums on here can give you a heads up, or follow them on Facebook if they use it.
  9. Hmm....I need a haircut at Shane's place across the street some time soon anyway. Maybe I'll stop in. Not really in the market for anything right now, but I never mind taking a look.
  10. The UK's DailyMail has never been a reliable piece of in-depth journalism. They like to sensasionalize things. I'm reminded of the anti-sales tax rallies at the TN state house a few years back, where the vast majority was peaceful, but a few people got out of hand. In this case, 200 arrests out of 250,000 - 500,000 people is pretty small. Any large demonstration will always have its idiots. I'm glad to see that the majority of the people assembled peacefully to make a statement to their government. I don't agree with all of this group's points, but I'm still glad to see them voice their opinions to their government. I suspect that the BBC is keeping the riot story downplayed because they have a vested interest in the governemnet NOT cutting spending. They want the same thing that the mass of the rally wants. This is all coming out in part because the UK has some serious taxation issues. Their structure is different than ours, but in the end, I think it's the same underlying problem. Those who pay resent those who don't, and those who don't pay think they're entitled to what they get from those who do via their government doll. that goes both ways up and down the income spectrum. In this case, a lot of the unrest is about banks, and several other large corporations finding ways to hide their profits from taxation. So they get lots of government benefits without paying very much relative to what they earn. They're pretty keen on keeping things like they are. Now the UK government is looking at reducing the promised benefits to individuals because they can't afford to pay for them. It would be like finding your promised SS and Medicare benefits being reduced because the tax revenue won't support them (or in modern terms, finding that the tax scheme on your IRAs and 401(k)s has been changed to reduce what you get to have, but then finding out that (insert top largest bakns/corporations here) haven't paid a dime in taxes for 20 years. That's just one facet of what the UK is facing right now. The other side is the bloated retirement/public healthcare behemoth. You know...the spending side of that tax/spend equation. Boy am I glad we have our spending under control here in the U.S. of A. That reminds me...I need to order some more ammo.
  11. Aww come on Lester...now we'll get a thread on bullet vs. cartridge vs. round.
  12. How did the class go? You mentioned in your OP that you'll be travelling soon to Virginia. Check this thread. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/414-tennessee-handgun-permit-resources.html The Other Resources section of this post has links to various sites that list individual state gun laws. As was said before, You're A-OK in Virginia with a TN permit for concealed carry (no open carry in VA). I always check these links before heading out of state for the things like carry in restaurants serving alcohol, churches, etc. Welcome to TGO.
  13. Great story. I love how kids sometimes stumble on some method that the seasoned pros say will never work. When my kid brother was about 5 or so, my dad was taking us fishing. We stopped at Wally World to get him a rod/reel of his own. Dad had picked out some decent setup, but my brother would have none of that. He spotted a light blue and white Mickey Mouse one and that was what he wanted. He cried and whatnot as 5 year olds do until dad gave in, despite dad's repeated assurance that it would break the first time he used it. More fish were caught on that Mickey Mouse setup than every other rod/reel combined that day. Dad eventually started taking it out with him for himself. We discovered that 3' rod was perfect for casting in under low branches and from overgrown banks w/o hanging the line in the branches.
  14. I love the photo caption: "Florida beauty queen Meghan Brown, right" No, really? If they hadn't put that "right" in there, I might have thought Meghan Brown, beauty queen, was the dude on the left. But that's only half as screwy as telling the world via the Interwebz that you have trouble breaking hundreds and walk around with a $60K rock on your hand....
  15. Good read and a good reminder that what you hit matters a lot more than what you hit it with.
  16. Did you have to post this just before lunch?
  17. 25/50 and 50/100 yards +1 to CHMR. I'll try to head that way this weekend. Rain or not, I need to shoot something. CHMR Pics are at the bottom of the page.
  18. If you want the one from your buddy, he's not ripping you off. If you want to build your own, this one won't be one of those "man! why did I pass up that deal?" things later on. Bud's gets as low as around $659 + FFL transfer + TICS for their basic DStars. mike...why did you have to post that link to Chuck's AR? Sgt. Joe beat me to it yesterday. I thought I was over it, but now I'm crying all over my keyboard again....
  19. I have a Walther P-22. I like that it works (mostly) like any other semi-automatic. That's really why I got it, so my wife could learn on something easy to shoot, where the mechanism would more or less translate over to larger caliber pistols. IMO, it looks the most badass of the little .22 semis. But the Walther doesn't have the build quality that I expected. I haven't had many FTF/FTE issues using CCI Minimags, but after about 1,000 rounds, I noticed during a cleaning that the trigger bar ears were cracked almost clean through. I sent it off to S&W for service, which was easy to work with. It came back with a new trigger bar, but even this one has small cracks in the edges of the ears. I expect to have to send it in again at some point. There are other issues too, like those same tigger bar ears digging into the slide. It's little things like that. I know those can be corrected by following setps in the P-22 Bible, but I don't like that I need to disassemble a new weapon and play gunsmith on it to make it work like it should. Others talk about how accurate the P-22 is, and I've seen someone be pretty accurate with mine, but I can't seem to get tight groups at all. I guess that's just me. Still, it is a lot of fun to shoot, even when I don't hit the target. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy a Ruger Mark II/III or a Browning Buckmark for accuracy, build quality, and handling cheaper ammo.
  20. Only if you speak about your superior knowledge of anything and everything. Then, apparently, yes it does. This thread oozes awesomeness.
  21. Don't forget: the taxpayers in Memphis got to pay for his helicopter ride.
  22. There is tax on either the FFL fee or the TICS, but can't recall which. I just know a $10 TICS + $10 transfer = $20.97. The dealer on your end should NOT be collecting sales tax. They did not make the sale and should not be collecting sales tax. If the seller is a dealer in TN or has a presence in TN (Bought it online at Academy for example), they MUST collect the sales tax, but that would be part of what you pay to the seller, not the FFL handling the recept of the firearm for you. If the sale is between private parties, the seller has no obligation to collect sales tax from you. +1 to the TGO vendors that offer $10 transfers.
