  1. Thanks everyone for inputs, yes consensus is improbable. Thanks Swede for your comments. I have spent many hours researching and reading. Have aquired both Lyman and Lees for reference and will probably go with Bullseye and CCI 500 to start.A friend uses these and I have fired his reloads. With your suggestion I plan to load enough to load each caliber twice and test fire.I have my own range so I can load and test and make corrections quickly. Again thanks to all for info and thoughts.
  2. Let's see if I can open a can of worms. Got reloading gear for Christmas and am curious about powder/ primer combos. Starting with 9s, 45, and probably some 38s for hanguns. May go to rifle rounds later. Just need some starting points to work from. Done a lot of reading and iniernet looking, but no consensous at all. Looking to see what works for others here. Powder seems in real short supply at the moment. Just dont want to have to blunder thru rag tag experimentation.
  3. Well it is Monday evening and Memorial Day Drawing to an end. Having grown up a military son and most of my family having served, we have always kept a remebrance on this day, My time was more Korea/Vietnam and lost Friends from Vietnam to 911, to Iraq, to Afghanistan and a few points between. But we started this Memorial day week end with a handshake, hug, a tear in the eye, and a few been there done that words as our son in law left to join his Gaurd Unit for deployment, Intrepidation, nerves, and maybe a little fear of the unknown filled those last moments. A fitting Memorial Day send off as we honor those who served, those who serve, and especially Those Who Gave Their All. our Flag took its traditional half staff till noon. It is now lit properly and will fly 24/7 till Kris returns home.I ask fellow TGO'ers remember not only Kris and his fellow Gaurdsmen ( and Ladies ) in their prayers, but all our Troops who may be in Harms Way. God Bless our troops and their famalies.
  4. Carry concealed most always off my property, just occasionaly  off property. Am confortable OC but usually prefer not to advertise. Always carry open at home on farm and at sisters and a couple neighbors, they all have HCP's and shoot with us on our range. I have ran to wally world Food Lion etc several times and did not conceal and have never had a negative experience. Most comments or questions always positive. even had a 5-6 year old behind in check out line ask mom if I was a cowboy, ( boots, hat, jeans, belt, spurs, gloves in back pocket) she told him to ask. daughter and I were just " off the horse " and intrigued the young man. Always polite, friendly and helpfull and never a problem. But overall concealed is my way.
  5. All were maintenance, not mp's.  heard 251st deploys in a couple months,  sad no repsect, honor, or sense of duty.
  6. Well, wonder how many companies will stand up and allow employees to actually store their weapons in their vehicles when this takes effect. A coworker today said he would email HR and get their opinion. HAHA, told him might not be a real good idea. Would probably put a big ole target on his back and get his vehicle searched at their whim. This just plain sucks, no weapons, illeagal searches, and termination. For sure the legislators are just plain scared to take on business on this topic. Interesting to see how many searches and/or terminations will occur.
  7. channel 5 nashville just had breaking news, it passed 28 to 5     HOOOOORAAAY!
  8. WOWWW! Race, national origion, asylums, lobotomies, mental capabilities, wheel chairs, security gaurds, and even a Congalese court. Accusations, insults, and innuendo. Seems even moderators are getting heated on this topic. I thought the mods job was to moderate, keep threads decent and on track. Someone was right, I need more popcorn and a bg gulp. Seriously dissapointed in the tone and direction or the lack of direction on this thread. Maybe at this point the thread should be closed and everyone wait and get the actual fact of a proposed bill and see the actual content. Then maybe the real merits or lack of merits might possibly be debated. I see very little legit pros or cons being discussed.
  9. That's great. My daughter's boyfriend just got his permit in the mail 2 weeks ago thursday. It took 2 weeks to the day he applied to get it in his hand. good luck hopefully yours will be just as quick.
  10. I have carried for several years, with previous military and LE experience. Experince with a carry weapon is key, not just firing on a range, but handling on a daily basis. To the point your safety habits are ingrained.I carry at all times not at work, with a holster with good retention. I have a custom holster and a blackhawk serpa as well. No way to lose the weapon. I do not handle my weapon with the kids around as well. With 2 5-6 year old grand kids and a 2 year old neighbor around at times my safety habits are paramount. The only weapon not in the safe at all times is the one on my hip, just good common sense. I have also taught the older ones that they should never touch a weapon they see or find, get an adult. I also realize sometimes kids are curious hence all weapons are locked up, Basic weapon common sense and good second nature safety practices are the best protection. Also in some cases you may find a parent may not like the thought or idea of you carrying a weapon around their child, you will have to find the solution that best fits the particular situation. I have no family or friends that have a problem with my carry. I do have a small pistol safe where I could lock up if need be. A neighbor did have an issue a couple years ago, so I left my weapon in the safe in my truck. But after 2 trips to the range ( have our own range on our property ), their attitude did an about face. Teaching kids what a weapon is about and the safety that goes along with it is a lesson for life.
  11. definitely interested, this Sunday out
  12. Saw a little bit ago, Texas 35,000 +, Louisianna 20,000+. Intriging for sure. Read somewhere that administration has to answer any petition that gains 25,000 signatures in 30 days. Also petitions from 24 states showing. Could get interesting possibly at some point in time.
  13. For those who served. Imagine the disdain and lack of trust those in country or who are now heading there, must have for their commander in chief and his minions. Can not imagine being in that postion in my day.
  14. Seems I keep hearing about a guy in a big white house somewhere that must not be happy either, wants to change his country too!! take from some of his country men and pass it around to the rest
  15. I went to our 40th Class Reunion last weekend at Fort Campbell High School and we all attended their Homecoming Game as Special Guests. It was a 68-7 route. One needs to know and understand what these kids are up against not just as students, ball players, or teenagers. most of them have a Parent deployed. This video done by Sports Illustrated is about the underdog and how they excell. I think it is an excellent perception of these kids and their struggles. Most of us that were at our Reunion can sure relate as we all lost our Fathers at pretty much the same time in 65 when the 101st deployed lock sock and barrel to Vietnam. Please take a moment to view this video and if you find it in your hearts vote for them, that they might recieve Sports Illustrated's grant for their program. Keep them and their Famalies in your hearts and prayers. I http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/specials/underdogs/episode-9.html
  16. Tn Gun Country, like to support fav gun store when can, and are real reasonable
  17. welcome from another clks/ Monkey county, don't get to complex much, opposite end of county. have own range area on property. Maybe get out there in near future.
  18. It's getting so almost every weekend theres a shooting or shots fired incident somewhere here in the Quenn City, not sure if any part of town is safe. Live well out in country and have 2 arrested for aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery in seperate cases in the last two months within a half mile of the house.
  19. Talked to local TWRA officer several months ago. Had a couple instances whwere a pack of five went after one of our small horses. Officer said was no problem protecting livestock. The yotes are often attracted by newborn calves, the afterbirth pulls them in. Neighbor lost a couple calves. I have taken 2 in the last year and neighbor 3. Have not seen any activity in last 6 months or so, but do hear them off in the distance. Couple of red foxes seen early AM often , but they are dont bother so we don't bother them.
  20. WZTV FOX 17 - Top Stories "Investigators identified the woman found shot to death outside her south Nashville apartment Friday morning as 43-year-old Dalia Gutierrez Sanchez who investigators say worked at the maximum security Riverbend Prison since 2006. The facility is home to 600 maximum and minimum security inmates including the majority of Tennessee's death row inmates. Metro police say it's too soon to tell if her job had anything to do with her death but are asking for public's help in bringing to justice a man they say shot and killed Gutierrez-Sanchez in front of her own home. Police say the veteran officer was fatally shot outside her home at the Longwood apartments in south Nashville just after 4:30 a.m. Friday. Police say her purse was taken and the gunman ran off and was last seen on Wallace road. "We are saddened by officer Gutierrez s death," said Derrick Schofield, the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Correction. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family." Detectives said they are working with witnesses to get an accurate description of the suspect and ask anyone with information to call crime stoppers at 74-CRIME." Dalia was a coworker and Friend. She had children and a zest for life. She worked hard for her family, Riverbend and part time with us. My understanding is the motive, be it robbery or possibly retribution from her work as a prison guard is still unknown. Either way she did not deserve to go this way, alone and in the dark. I would ask all my fellow members, remember her and her family in their prayers this weekend. This senseless and brutal act I hope reinforces the reasons each and every one of us carry's, to protect ourselves and our loved ones. There are those out there that have no regard for their man. If this is in the wrong forum or format, please feel free to correct, as i have never posted with a add on or such.
  21. I have had a SW9VE for almost 2 years and 3200+ rounds. With our own range, everything from single target, multiple target, rapid fire to movement and have never exprienced any type of failure or missfeed. It is carried daily in public, working the farm and on horseback. Yes it is cleaned weekly minimum, as well as after every range trip. Trigger is a bit different, but I have found that it has helped improve trigger control. Also have a Sig, but prefer the Sigma myself. My suggestion would be rent one at your local range and put 100 rounds or so downrange, get your own opinion. Dollar for dollar it is a good solid primary, backup, or first gun. Still my suggestion would be to try as many different guns as possible, eliminate all but a few and again go back and try them again. Comfort, feel, accuracy, and dependability all weighed to make your decision. Take care and don't be unduly influenced by Gun Shop people, make your own decisions based on your own experiences and trials.
  22. Wouldn't take the shot in the back, but would defintely be moving following the big Hey { or whaterver } and the first rounds loosed at BG1. Moving off mark maks BG2 find you as second volley finds him. In my house, doors always locked, big loud dog and alarm system. They would already have made any intentions known getting this far. Still it is safer to hole up and protect self and family if possible, ever tried searching your home and covering your back and covering multiple threat axis's at same time? Take the safest course!
  23. Welcome to group! also have a Sgma 9mm, near Henrietta
  24. Stand corrected David is the owner, John is a younger fella there. BTW David suggested you guys as a range!
  25. About a year and a half ago I was in market for first handgun in 15 years. Visted at least 8 or 9 shops after doing a lot of on line research. Could not get a single question answered at the Outpost, guy was too busy swapping stories with a guy at end of counter. Told me to hang on, he would be through in a bit. 45 minutes later walked out to nver return. Did spend a good bit of time later at G/l and APS. Got solid info and discussions at both. But found a spot that I now frequent monthly at least. Tennessee Gun Country in Clarksville. John, the owner and his crew have always took whatever time neede to show, demostrate, or answer my questions. Sure they might ask to hang on a minute if really busy, especially on saturay. They always ackowledge every few minutes and even pull you into other conversations. Never owned anything but revolvers before then. They took time to demo every make they had, what they felt were pros and cons of each. Even said it was their opinion, and as something else everyone has, everyone has one. Guess I was not 100% certain. I was suggested to talk to friends, family, even neighbors who might own guns. Did just that and went back armed with a laundry list of questions. Almost 3 hours later, lots of discussion and introduction to several websites, made first purchase. Been back for numerous accessories and a rifle purchase and lots of ammo. Ammo prices are within a dollar or two of WallyWorld. Have sent 3 or 4 friends there and all have wound up purchasing with them as well. John has had a discussion with my daughter as to her handgun needs, ROTC student, National Gaurd MP, avid proponent of CC. She is still a hacked off almost 20 year old that can not wait till 21. John suggested a range and trying every thing they have. She does not want a Beretta, tried out Sigs,S/W,Ruger,Colt,Walther, Glocks, etc. Has lots of questions we have worked to answer, more for them. As John told her, don't buy the first pretty gun you see. Narrow down to a couple and hit the range and put rounds down range with each, Decide what is comfortable, what you get the best sight picture and accuracy with. They will defintely get our business again this time. I would definetely reccomend them to anyone coming to the area.
