  1. Sorry to hear of your loss. Lost my Dad 2 years ago. Hope you remember the good times and celebrate what he gave you over the years, that helped get us through the holidays and beyond. Got my love of guns very young, on the farm. Dad was in the Army, career EOD and retired as a SGM. Spent all my summers and several Vietnam years on family farms. Learned to hunt bythe Time I was 8. Uncle Clyde was big time into trap shooting and a National Champ several times in the mid/late 60's and got introduced to shotgun's. Guess between hunting, clays, and being around explosive knowledge something had to rub off. Dad also taught a lot of improvised device classes to PD's, and used to help him put together displays and demo's. He gave me my first gun, a Savage 22 bolt action that was my mom's. She to grew up on the farm, a real country girl. The bug has always stayed with me. Today between my Daughter, Son and I we have 4 rifles, 3 shotguns and 4 handguns. Of course they would'nt be as much fun if I didn't have our own range. Any time, any gun, any way. Dead Man's Gulch is alway's just a 2 minute walk out the back door. Yes a funny name for a place in Mid Tn. The name came from Dad, Was a Louis L'Lamour fan. Thanks Dad for all you were and all you gave. Keep all those memories colse in your heart and he will always be there, Robert.
  2. This guy is definetly a few bricks short. He broke every basic rule of safety during his, what was it, demonstration. I don't think his finger ever came off the trigger more than a time or two. Reholstering with finger in the trigger gaurd? Amazing he is still standing, let alone breathing. His pretty badge, probably not long before he pulls it out and gets a new set of bracelets. He will find out about, what do they call it, impersonation. Hope he isn't actually trying to teach any one, he will get himself or someone else dead. Can not believe some people are so ignorant, I too am glad he is in Florida!
  3. Wondering if anyone has or knows of programs to record range scores. I would like to find a means to scan in a target and then mark hits. Want to see progression or lack there of from practice or training. Can take laptop to range and make entries. If not able to do this maybe a means to record scores. Guess could fall back to photo target and download. Thought this would help see if groupings improve as well as scores. Have never kept or paid much attention to scores before. Thought we could work on accuracy as well as draw, movement, missfire drills, etc. We have our own range on our property, so we have plenty of opportunity. Any info, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to move to another forum if I have put this in the wrong one.
  4. Do not patronize Target. Period. Back at the start of Desert Storm when the 101st was being deployed, the first group was being bussed from Ft Caampbell to their departure point. The busses all passed the Target on Wilma Rudolph just before hitting I24. One units wives group asked target if they could gather in their parking lot to cheer and send off thier loved ones, as they passed out of town. Target had the biggest road frontage and clear view for their passing. The troops had been locked down for several days prior to their departure. The wives had asked for about 2 to 3 hours time and would only use the farther reaches of their lot. The Target manager refused to allow them access. This was on a Tuesday if memory serves me. Well on Saturday Target allowed a Gay/Lesbian activity in the same area. The wives group fired of a letter questioning why the disparity in allowing use of their parking lot. Several weeks later a reply from their Corporate Office arrived. Basically they stated that as a French owned company they felt it was improper to offer support for mlitary operations. They also claimed that as a company they had a polcy of non-bias towards any group and regularly offered support to many diverse groups. Needless to say the wives group organized a boycott of Target. They used their newsletters, phone lists, and military connections.A neighbor who was Target's Asset Leader at the time later said that Wive's Group was pretty much sucessfull, as sales over the next year was off by almost 14% compared to stores in similar military areas. The next 101st deployment was treated differently By the local Target. Lesson learned. There are some of us still remember their snub. They made their choice of who to support thta day. Besides they are a foreign owned company as they said, as if that was all they needed for a reason. Some of us figured that was also a good enough reason to take our business elsewhere. So still after all these years will not spend a dime with them, their posting becomes irrelevant to me!!
  5. Cbs news says OBL dead, head shot and body in US hands in Afganistan. Claims body will be disposed of. No shrine for followers. Pray repercussions do not befall our troops in theater or on our own shores. GOOD JOB GUYS, WHOEVER TOOK HIM OUT!!!!!
  6. Looking for info or experience with a Beretta 92fs or 90-2. Daughter wants a 92fs. She is National Gaurd MP and likes it. She has used my S&W, a SIG, Glock, Kel Tec, and Ruger. All in 9mm as well as Glock 40. She seems very comfortable with the Beretta and says it fits her smaller hands a little better both double and single handed. Found that the newer 90-2 has a smaller grip available, might fit even better. Courious if anyone has any experience or info on the differences between the two?
  7. My daughter is there and is doing MP. She will be there till the end of Feb through AIT and then goes to a Gaurd MP detachment at Waverly. she spent 3 1/2 days stuck in there barracks because they had no Drill Sgts after 3 days in reception. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
  8. Sounds good, live on eastern edge of Montgomery County. Never been there though, we have a small range on our property. Saturday is best right now. My daughter is at Ft Leonardwood for basic and AIT, she calls Sunday afternoons when allowed. She'd be heartbroken if wasn't here. Been gone 2 weeks, don't know for sure when will call. Moma camps out next to the phone on Sundays. Look forward to meeting TGO'ers.
  9. FOLLOWING THE POSTS HERE, I DONT' UNDERTAND HOW THE STATE OF TN OR MOST OTHERS CAN OR WANT TO RESTRICT THESE AGE GROUPS. MY DAUGHTER AND SOON BOTH WERE CONFIDENT WELL TAUGHT IN HANDLING AND USING HAND GUNS AS WELL AS LONG GUNS AT AGE 18. mY DAUGHRTER IS CURRENTLY AT BASIC/ AIT SINGLE UNIT TRAINING (MP). FIND IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW STATES CAN TRAIN THEIR SOLDIERS IN INSURRECTION/CROWD CONTROL, CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, LOOTING ETC AND SEND THEM INTO AREAS OF DISASTER, RIOT ETC.THEY CAN BE ARMED AND PROTECT CITIZENS OF THIS STATE AT 18-19 YEARS OF AGE, AND FACE ARMED COMBAT IN IRAQI AND AFGANI THEATRES. BUT YET THEY CAN NOT CARRY THE SAME GUN THEY HAVE BEEN TRAINED WITH AND USED IN ACTUAL COMBAT TO PROTECT THEMSELVES ON THEIR HOME STREETS. HAVE READ SEVERAL CASES WHERE YOUNG COMBAT RETURNEES WERE KILLED OR SERIOUSLY HURT ON THEIR HOME FRONTS. TO ME THE CONSTITUTION BARS NO AGE , HISTORY SEEMS TO BEAR THAT THE MILITIAS IT REFERRED TO WERE MADE UP OF MALES WHO WERE OFTEN UNDER THE AGE OF 18. THE STATE IT SEEMS CAN TRUST THE YOUNG TO CARRY AND PROTECT THE CITIZENERY BUT NOT CARRY AND PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR LOVED ONES.
  10. Great!! #87 Wife & Daughter joining shortly as well.
  11. Have her contact the Equine Dept there, have done many shows there. Not sure if students can board there, but they should be able to give her info on or about local stables. Also might try the local coop, they often have postings. Might have to research their reps etc. She can talk to other students around the Equine Dept.,some of them are bound to know local facilities. Good Luck!!!!
  12. HEHEHE Have 3 and do sometimes get a look from passersby with 1 in the scabbard as you mosey along. just nod or tip the hat and usually get a smile as well.
  13. Also work with and ride horses and found early on that a lot of holsters can easily become problematic at a full lope or canter. Retention can be a real problem with some. Found 2 solutions over the last couple years. My shoulder rig works very well, even with the hardest riding and occasional jumps over logs etc. My Serpa Blackhawk with it's active retention holds my S&W full size 9mm nice and secure. BTW have never lost a student or had to explain my tool to a worried parent etc. Occasional casual question may come up, never been a problem. Might be there perception of the "old" cowboy lifestyle or personality .
  14. I use a rather inexpensive shoulder rig at times. know the problems with changing carry etc.Live on small farm and ahve found that when working with, on, or around farm equiptment IWB or OWB is not practical. Getting hung up, jabbed and bruised by gun butt, as well as dirt and debris are major problems. Well adjusted shoulder rig tied down has pretty much solved these problems. Real drawback is gun presentation, slow and ackward compared to IWB or OWB. Have a small range affording multiple targets and ability to move and fire. So do sometimes practice with shoulder rig, but it is not my normal every day carry. OWB strong side is. My opinion for the 2 cents is that for some, the shoulder rig has practical applications.
  15. Marty Robbins, gun fighter ballads, not much better! Seals,LeDoux and Murphy all on fav list. One that I have never forgotten and still kinda tugs a heart string was one of Tex Ritter's. Though not a cowboy song per se, struck a chord having grown up on and off the farm and the military. Deck of Cards.Still remember the letter from Dad after sending him a specially marked deck while on first tour in Nam, was only advisors in country at time. Granddad gave us a 45 of this. Thought it was the greatest story at the time, still is.
  16. I agree with Mike 357, Punisher, and several others. Am youngster as far as time here and number of posts. I try to stay out of the arguments, and put up what I think are good thoughts, comments, or info. Been busted a time or two for the dumb ones. Live and learn seems to be the lessons. Was put off when first joined up with some of the BS we see, wanted to learn from the "ole timers". Found that could learn and have a laugh along the way. We all have opinions , thoughts, and beliefs and most of us take them to heart. Well maybe some of us too much to heart, or maybe just try to express views a little to strongly. We just have to be a little more tolerant, thick skinned,or leave the personalls out. Found works for me, thought about busted post and hey Can Learn something. Don't post often but am more comfortable lately throwing in the 2 cents I figure thought is. Agree, disagree, bust, or put down. Just do it with civility, whatever the devil that may be. Hey, I enjoy the time here and do occasionally find a new trick or two this OLD DOG can learn!!!! Kick an old dog and you just might find he will piss on your leg then knaw with them old teeth. HEHEHE Keep it interesting, hot, and fun. Keeps me coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I have worked concessions at Titan's games 15 or 16 times in the last 4 years for our high school ROTC program. A Tips training course. think it lasted 3-4 hours is required to work and serve beer. DL from the state, passport for foreign persons, and military ID where the only ID's Tn accepted. Worked shows for Country week and had problems with foreign persons, Britsh etc who didn't carry passports to the stadium. The state actually has people testing for infractions at every event. Saw 2 people taken out in handcuffs and charged for serving to underage. They were supposedly within a month of being legal. You are taught to have ID removed and verify legal age. Got pretty good at reading birth dates quickly. So apparently Tn only accepts these ID's or Centerplate, the concessions owners and operators interpret Tn regs this way.
  18. That is good eliminates high cost items such as alt, fuel pump, and possibly starter. Another thing to check is when it won't start. do any of the warning lights etc in dash light? If not you are not getting power to the dash area which points more to the ignition switch. If the lights do come on may be in the neutral safety area. The ignition switch usually comes in two parts, the lock and key cylinder and the actual electrical switch. Sounds as if it is in the switch area is probably in the electrical part. Also make sure all fuses are seated and tight. Kinda aprocess of elimination of what is working and what is not. Hope this may help point you in the right direction, as this is only way I know to solve w/o a test light. Good Luck!
  19. It starts after several trys, correct? If so battery is not the problem, and since battery eliminated so is alt. Since nothing happens and does eventually start, I would say fuel pump OK. Leaves 2 areas, poor connection and ignition system. Ignition system will include interlocks such as clutch switch or neutral safety switch. Can you wiggle the key etc and get it to start? If so probably switch. Otherwise will need a test light or volt meter to check neutral safety's etc to determine where the loss of continuity is.
  20. Not a friendly. I live in Montgomery County and work in the Madison St area. Carry concealed 99% of the time, S&W Sigma 9 OTW and never been made. Have own range on property and have 5 -6 Leo friends that shoot with us, Sgts and even Detective type on Tac Team. None of them have any problem with HCP"s. They basically say appearance, attitude, etc sparks any problems. They all know I carry and have seen them in their on duty roles. Went through check point recently and THP Trooper never batted an eye, even had conversation on best carry options. Don't know what his problem might have been, but friends have said sheep sometimes become frightened or what and will call and report man with gun. There was an incident with a County Deputy a while back during a felony stop with 3 individuals in the vehicle where a HCP assisted the line depuy, believe me he is respectfull and appreciatve. Besides Capt's probably don't patrol as rule. What part of town was BP, may avoid, will definetly ask LEO friends about.
  21. Have Chron's diseaes and had 9 ft removed several years ago. Hope your diagnosis goes great. PM if you like to know my experiences. Surgery Friday evening and went home Monday afternoon, with 27 staples up the middle. Hope all goes well!!
  22. BUG Got it!!!!! BUT UGLY GUY
  23. I agree with Joe, Punisher,R1100, Dolomite. It's obvious you Have Not Been There and Done That. Sure shortages do happen. Talk to friends and family who are there monthly at least several at the most remote FOB's and believe me they seldom seriously lack anything. Give up a little of the good life and spend some quality time in This Man's Army, grow some cajones and learn where your Good Life comes from. If you can't support the war then you better damn well support the Men and Woman fighting it, for they are the ones paying for your good life. I don't post often, but you just fry my but. Maybe my fellow poster's are dead on, you have no conception of the boredom and stark terror that makes up the day to day ops and down time in country. Put a sock load of your crap in and keep it shut.
  24. N E G O T I A T E !!!!! I am always in the company of my 2 Pro Negotiators. Mr. Smith talks to the first and Mr. Wesson will talk to the second, any one still wanting to NEGOTIATE after that I and my other 15 friends will gladly Talk. LOL Disparity of force may in fact be in play. If moving out of the area or situation is not immediately possible and the threat comes to the point of fear of bodily harm or worse, then all conversation except Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson ceases. I will protect body and life.
  25. I know what his problem was! A SGM, E8. He couldn"t count. Sgm is an E9. E8 is 1st SGt or MSGT. 20 years and did'nt know his rank?
