  1. Had good time, didn't shoot all that well. Your welcome Norma. John excellent job on the stage layouts. Hognut, thank you for making me shoot first too!
  2.     I guess little clarification of my statement is needed.    The new rules state no personal walk troughs after the group walk through.   Because MTSC generally rotates the shooter up a notch after each stage, if I start in the sixth position I will gradually work my way up to the second position by the fifth stage.  This will help my old brain remember the stage layouts.   For example, if you start in third position you will be last on the fourth stage or start in tenth you will never be closer than fifth.    Having ten plus shooters in a squad can be a long time to remember your cover points.   Not trying to make a ruckus, just little gamming.     Tom
  3. Also, if we are following the new rules, can be the sixth shooter starting on the first stage.    Never hurts to ask does it?   Tom
  4. Will there be printed new ruled books available for reference?  Or should I bring my own....
  5. I had a good shoot. Hit my goal and moved into SS. Looking forward to next months match.
  6. A few comments and observations on the New Finger in the Trigger Guard DQ.   While it is important safety rule news shooters will be the most DQed.  I intentionally watch fast shooters to see what they are doing differently so hopefully I can pick up a few pointers.  I see a lot of the time the more experienced and the faster the shooter is, the less SO is watching for the finger.  To the point that they don’t even notice if someone leaves finger in the guard between transitions. This is especially relevant when the SO doesn’t even keep up with shooter through the course of fire or is the entire time looking at their backside.   I am left hand  shooter and use my fore finger to eject the magazine.  I have been called a couple of time on my finger just because the SO couldn't see it compared to right handed shooter. I believe this is mostly do to it’s on the other side of the firearm.  If it’s not in the guard it’s not on the trigger....  Left handed shooters also make some SO’s nervous because they are not accustom to seeing the pistol on the other side and many times stand on the wrong side of the shooter.  It’s going to very unfortunate if I get a finger call based on where the SO is standing or assumes.      The more I progress the more I am finding out the faster you can shoot on a local level the less they notice things like this where your fingers are and your position of cover.    I also suppose I am also just becoming a better shooter.     Tom
  7. You can no longer move behind cover when doing a reload. Tactical or slide lock. You must be flat footed. If you even think about it and lift your foot up you will get a PE. That's how I and many others understand the new rule.
  8. While I have a very nice Comp-Tac competition belt, it is a bit stiff for everyday use.  I also have a nice Galco belt.   The belt I have gravitated to for IDPA and everyday carry is the 5.11 Double Duty TDU 1.5” Belt.  It has two layers of heavy duty nylon webbing with five rows of stitching, adjustable buckle and is reversible.  I found it at Bass Pro Shop for 20.00 and decided to try it.  I have since purchased another to keep in my range bag.
  9. Just a couple of questions and comments.   3.2. Prior to shooting a stage, a group walkthrough will be given by the SO. During the group walkthrough, the shooter will be allowed to view each target from every shooting position. This includes taking a knee or prone position. Other than the group walkthrough, no individual stage walkthroughs are permitted. Individual walkthroughs include walking the path of fire or assuming shooting positions to check cover positions or target engagement, order, etc.   Has this always been a rule?  When on deck I frequently walk the course to make certain I understand the course of fire and haven’t forgotten any of the targets to engage.  I’m not talking about air gunning.  I am talking about taking a second look.  This is especially needed for me if I shooting later than sooner.   Limited Vickers 4.2.1. Same as Vickers Count described above except the number of shots to fire on a target, string or stage is limited to exactly the number specified in the Course of Fire description. Additionally, the Failure To Neutralize penalty does not apply in Limited Vickers Count stages.   I have seen on more than one occasion a FTN was applied when missing a Limited Vickers Target.  Is this new? I will  certainly pay more attention to this in the future.   Some of the other changes are welcomed and give more clarification.  Like others I don’t particular care for the standing in place behind cover for a re-load.  Tom
  10. I have also noticed it.  We me sometimes it depends on the powder I am using.  Faster or Slower.  I see it in my 45 loads using Bullseye.   Which leads me to believe from the above post it is changing the expansion.   Tom
  11. Dawson makes a punch that has a nylon tip. Here is a video with Mr Dawson using it. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4maCQhEIjoA Here is a link to the five dollar punch http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=80000EB5-1297371469
  12.   Robert are we going to have multiple strings of the ten shot shotgun stage?
  13.   I shoot for the fun and the thrill of competition.   The competition part is lacking so for now I have to stick to the fun side of things.  Maybe it will play to my advantage, maybe not.   I like shooting steel.  Other than gun malfunctions, it’s the shooter versus the steel and your accuracy really shows in your scores.    While I didn’t fair to well in the last match with my pistol, I had a blast doing it.   The shotgun was also a hoot to shoot.
  14. Okay, thanks for the clarification.  I look forward to seeing the final COF.  I understand the adding the level of stress, but if less than 2% of the shooters can even come close to the Par time it becomes a little discouraging.  Of coarse, I was looking at the initial stage design and not the final.     Tom
  15. Wow, those are some fairly quick Par Times.  It is my understanding that you must stop shooting at the end buzzer.    Is this correct?    If that’s the case, then based on my scores last week I would only get to shoot about 1/2 of each stage if that much.    Looking at all the scores only a couple of top shooters might hit the par times (most were not hit) and the rest of us middle of the road shooters would get a half match.  Is this how it works?   I am not complaining just trying to weighing my options given the cost of doing business (fun).   Tom
  16. That particular on has a slot on both sides were your pistol rides.  I saw someone wearing one at a match a couple of weeks ago and the gun was clearly in the slot and not concealed.   I asked the RO about it later and he mentioned it was not legal.   For the really hot days I wear a large (fishing type) vented back short sleeve shirt.   Tom
  17. Packing for this weekend steel match I noticed I left my UpLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader on one of the tables at the match. If found please return it. My old thumbs will thank you. PM me if you have any information pertaining to its return. Tom
  18. Robert has them. We found them on the registration table durning tear down.
  19. Does anyone know where MTPSA shoots?  There website shows  a 3-gun next weekend but doesn't list any location.   http://mtpsa.atspace.com/   Tom
