  1. Mine showed up 3 weeks from the day I submitted all the paperwork at the THP and did the fingerprints. That was about this time last year.
  2. Wonder where that bullet ended up?

    Pocket carry pistols?

I have a Bersa Thunder 380, which is similar in size and weight to the PPK/S, but cost a couple hundred less. While I can and have carried it in a pocket holster in jeans, khakis, and dress slacks, it's a bit large and heavy to carry it that way all the time. Carries fine in an IWB holster, though. A pocket gun with sufficient power and accuracy is an elusive beast.
  4. I believe this is exactly the logic behind why it becomes aggravated assault. There used to be a completely separate offense called "Assault while possessing a deadly weapon" but it got merged into the Aggravated Assault statute (if memory serves - it's been a while).
  5. Aggravated assault in Tennessee includes if you commit a simple assault (i.e. punch someone) while displaying a deadly weapon (holstered gun on your belt, as long as the victim sees it). Aggravated Assault is a class C felony. Michie's Legal Resources# 39-13-102. Aggravated assault. (a) A person commits aggravated assault who: (1) Intentionally or knowingly commits an assault as defined in § 39-13-101 and: (A) Causes serious bodily injury to another; or ( Uses or displays a deadly weapon; or (2) Recklessly commits an assault as defined in § 39-13-101(a)(1), and: (A) Causes serious bodily injury to another; or ( Uses or displays a deadly weapon. I am not a lawyer but I was a police officer in Tennessee for a number of years and I did learn the basic elements of the offenses. So yes, simply carrying a weapon on you can elevate the severity of other crimes you might commit. Remember, HCPs are for law-abiding citizens. Obey the law if you plan to carry, which includes not assaulting people.
  6. A ticket is issued "in lieu of arrest." Nobody says you gotta sign. You can choose to go through the arrest procedure if you prefer.
  7. Just to add on this one - they recently changed the law so that a simple Gunbuster sign (red circle and slash with a handgun symbol) has force of law, no language required. If they ONLY have a worded sign, then the language has to state that it is a crime to carry past a posted sign and that in fact the location is posted. Though the symbol alone is sufficient to prohibit. If only the door to the business is posted, but not the parking lots, then you can leave your gun in the car and go on in. I suggest a good car gun safe rather than just tossing it in the glove box, especially in touristy places. This site is a pretty good reference and has links back to the state web sites: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/tennessee.pdf. The actual laws are the final deal but that site also has links to Attorney General opinions which tend to determine how the laws are enforced.
  8. Took about 3 weeks for mine to come through last year after I submitted the paperwork. Welcome to the forums!
  9. The straight "GI" model from American Classic (model AC45GC) is a duller satin finish hard chrome. It's the one with the standard trigger, hammer, and fixed sights. The American Classic II, Commander, Trophy, and soon-to-be-released Amigo models are the bright hard chrome. I've seen them at a gun show and the finish looks like a highly polished stainless. http://www.americanclassic1911.com/
  10. I look back with regret on most of the handguns I have sold / traded over the years. You may not feel that way and perhaps you are seriously strapped for cash. My personal preference would be to keep the G27 for those times when you can wear a cover garment, and if you want a pocket gun, save up and get one. The S&W 642 and 442 are both currently available through Davidson's Gallery of Guns, and there are several Memphis-area dealers who are retailers for them. The best price is $368.49 plus taxes and fees, which works out to $422.52 out the door for either model. Personally I'm waiting on Kahr to actually ship the CM9 to see what the street price ends up being. I'm hoping that will be small and light enough for pocket carry, without putting as big a dent in the wallet as the PM9.

    .22 semiautomatic

I have not tried one myself, but some report they are finicky with certain ammo types. CCI Blazer, Minimags, and Velocitor are reported to be reliable in them. Others report no problems with other brands of ammo, though, so who knows. I keep toying with the idea of getting one in nickel finish to match my Bersa Thunder 380 (which is a very nice gun) but I'm all spent out for guns at the moment. Bersachat has a sub-forum specifically dedicated to the 22s: Bersa 22 and Firestorm 22 Models
  12. So for what it's worth, I have a Glock 22 Gen 4 and it's been a reliable accurate gun for me. I don't get that much range time so the cost difference in ammo isn't THAT big a deal to me, but I still prefer to save money here and there. I bought a Storm Lake 40-to-9mm drop-in conversion barrel and a couple of Glock 17 magazines and I can covert the 40 to 9mm in just a minute or so, and back to 40. Saves money on range time and if ammo ever becomes scarce again (like it was about a year ago) I'll have more options. I don't have any personal experience with these other brands, but I see posters on various forums who like the Springfield XDM, Smith and Wesson M&P, and Ruger SR40. In your search, you might look at those options as well. All seem to be priced in the same general range as the Glock 22. There's a For Sale post right now here at TGO for a S&W M&P in 40 SW if you're interested in a used gun.
  13. Employers could already allow HCP holders to carry at work simply by not prohibiting it, couldn't they? Not sure what this bill does for anyone other than to reinforce what already exists. The one I really want to see passed is the parking lot bill. That would finally allow me to carry more than just on weekends.
  14. I have a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel for my Glock 22 Gen 4. It has worked flawlessly and seems to shoot about as accurately as I do. No problems at all after about 250 rounds of FMJ ammo through it. It dropped right in with no modifications required. The only other thing I did was use Glock 17 magazines for the 9mm ammo. Didn't have to do anything to the ejector or extractor. I don't happen to carry it with the conversion barrel but I wouldn't have any reservations in doing so.
  15. If you get to about 3 weeks with no cigarettes, you might get it in your mind you're "cured" and just one won't hurt you. And you'll be right back where you started. I quit in 1980. Wasn't easy, and expect to gain some weight. Start working out and some form of aerobic exercise if you aren't already doing it.
  16. No, I didn't do anything to the gun other than drop in the barrel and use Glock 17 magazines. It fires and ejects fine as far as I can tell. I have read various Internet posts that say I should change out ejector and extractor but I did not need to do that on the G 22 for it to work.
  17. I bought a Storm Lake barrel for my Glock 22 (Gen 4). Was a perfect drop-in fit, no gunsmithing required. I bought a couple of G17 magazines to go with it. So far it has shot 9mm flawlessly from the gun, nothing else required beside the barrel and the magazines. I got it from www.midwayusa.com last fall when they were having a sale of some kind so it wasn't too expensive. The main reason I bought the Storm Lake over the Lone Wolf is that I didn't really care for the black Lone Wolf logo on the top of the chamber. The storm lake logo is just lightly engraved into the side of the chamber, so it's all silver in color and more discreet.

    New gun purchase

Take your badge and ID with you and check to see if there are any law enforcement discounts available. Some manufacturers sell at discounted rates to LEOs but you need to make sure the gun store participates in those programs. Some internet sales companies also offer LEO discounts, like Bud's Gun Shop: Discount Guns for Law Enforcement by Buds Gun Shop (budsgunshop.com) You could also try GT Distributors: GT Distributors - America's Law Enforcement supply specialist, but they will require a letter from your department specifying that your purchase is for official duty purposes and I think they will ship directly to the department. I would assume that an approved off-duty weapon would qualify but you could call them to find out.
  19. There is no ban yet, and may never be. The delay is probably just due to high demand from people who think there might be one and want to stock up in advance. I had ordered a couple of spare 15-round Glock 19 mags from Midwayusa and they showed up last week, so doesn't seem to be any problem in general, perhaps just ProMag is backlogged.
  20. In your case, Greg, you could explain that you are a holster manufacturer and you are testing out a new model for fit and function prior to offering it for sale.
  21. Sooo... back to the original topic. Sounds like you had a really nice ride, Kirk. Makes me nostalgic for the days of my youth cruising along the highways on my Suzuki GT750 I had back in the late 70s. Only time I open-carried while riding it was to and from work, but it kind of went with the rest of the police uniform I was wearing at the time so nobody much gave it any thought. Glad you didn't have any incidents due to open carrying, though one day is probably not a good test. If it fits in with your lifestyle, perhaps you could do it more often and see if you get any interesting reactions. Probably nothing bad will come of it unless you intentionally seek out trouble, which it doesn't sound like you're doing.
  22. I just took my new G26 Gen4 out to the range yesterday for the first time, ran about 200 rounds through it without a problem. Mostly UMC standard pressure FMJs, but I did run 40 rounds of various defense rounds, both +P and standard (10 each of Federal HST 124 +P, Federal HST 147 +P, Winchester Ranger 147g SXT, and Winchester 124 NATO FMJ). Not sure what the issues are with the Gen4's, mine have been trouble-free. I have two of them (G22 and G26) and have not had any problems at all with either. I shoot both 40s and 9s in the G22 (Storm Lake conversion barrel) and everything just works.
  23. It's perfectly reasonable to want to have the contact information for a competent attorney. If you are ever involved in a self-defense shooting, then you have two potential legal issues to deal with - the possibility of a criminal investigation, and the possibility of civil action being filed against you. In either case it would be exceptionally wise to confer with an attorney in as short a time period as possible after the incident and ideally prior to giving any statements to police beyond what is absolutely necessary at the scene. It is quite possible to be exonerated in a shooting situation under criminal law, while still being found liable for damages under civil law. Statements you make to police may later be used to cast you in a negative light in a civil case. If you've ever encountered the situation of something said being taken out of context, then you understand what the risks could be there. I would say a good idea would be to get out your yellow pages and identify a reputable law firm (rather than just a single attorney) and keep one of their business cards handy. You can always hire a different lawyer who specializes or at least has experience with self-defense cases after the fact. But when you tell the police "I'd be happy to cooperate with you but I'd like to have an attorney present with me during the interview," then it's kind of handy for you to actually have a number you can call. As to whether you want to spend the $250+ per hour for a consultation before-hand is up to you.
  24. A poster over on Bersachat.com who is an experienced reloader did some tests with the .380 version. He wasn't very impressed, though he acknowledges that he may have gotten a bad batch. USA AMMO .380 Update FAIL
  25. That's a great looking example! One of the neat features of the DW was the placement of the cylinder release. You could actually open the cylinder and dump the brass with one hand while going for your reload / speed loader. Had a one-piece grip with that single allen-screw in the butt of the grip if I remember correctly, similar to the later Hogue monogrips.
