  1. "Thats not a knife, THAT's a knife" ~Crocodile Dundee~
  2. Peejman- I bet your uncle was suprised to see a man of that size standing at his doorstep. I was very suprised at how big he is. I use to hang out down in the tunnel before games and saw a lot of NBA players but only Shaq was more impressive in size than Rasheed. Your uncle lives in a nice neighborhood by the way, I know where both those houses are. Barry is a very reserverd person. I got to meet him at a charity event I was in charge of and he kind of just sat there quietly signing autographs. He is a very nice but quiet guy.
  3. I tell people that I tricked her into thinking I had money, thats the only way a guy like me could get her.
  4. Mac- That is awesome, I never got to meet any really funny guys like that. I always tell everyone that all my celeb run ins were wasted on me because I am not a musician. I would love to have met someone like Bill Murray. I have made some great friends over the years and still talk to several of them but it would have been great to meet people outside of the music and sports field. My wife was wondering why I was typing so much and started to read through this and laughed at me because I have 17 numbers in my phone and 9 of them are "Celeberties" 6 are family and last is the pizza place. She just called me a loser.
  5. Mac- I have always heard that Bill Murray was really cool, I have always wanted to meet him.
  6. My step dad was reading this thread and reminded me of a few. He opened up for Areosmith so I got to meet the band but for me meeting Liv Tyler when I was 17, we hung out backstage before the concert and after. I at that time really thought I had a chance with her, sadly I was wrong. I guess I repressed that memory after she turned me down after asking her out on a date. The other one my dad was dissapointed with me is that we lived next to Ted Nugents place in SW Michigan and I used to go hunting with him. My step dad and him would sit around playing music until 2-3 in the morning, of course they would send me home around midnight. I have had the chance to meet alot of famous people due to my stepdad being a musician, sister is an actress (her next role has her acting next to Eastwood), and I worked in radio/sports. Out of all the people I have meet the most suprising to me was how nice Rasheed Walace is. He is one of the most polite people I have ever met. He say yes sir, no sir, please and thank you even to me who is 10 years younger. He even brought me lunch one day after he was done for the day when he saw I was working a long day. I still get christmas and birthday cards from him every year. He also got my kids gifts when they were born. He told me when my son gets older we can send him on a trip to see him and learn how to play basketball because I suck at it.
  7. Meeting Reagan would have been really cool.
  8. Not sure if it really counts but I worked at a radio station over in Memphis and had dinner every thursday with B.B. King and got the chance to host the Handy Awards with him. I got to meet a lot of famous people in my time working in radio but that weekly dinner is something I will never forget. He did some TV acting. The coolest person I ever met was Peyton Manning, he was doing an apperence for the radio station and I went and picked him up at the airport and spent the day with him. He was so cool that when he found out I was getting married he sent me a wedding gift. We still talk everyonce and a while when he visits Knoxville. I loved working in radio, the hours and pay sucked but the perks were cool
  9. Well put. 3 is slowly creeping up to #2
  10. I like the new set-up. Thanks David for making the browsing the for sale so much easier.
  11. I went to several auctions in the area and usually by time you pay all the fees you end up almost at retail, thats why I stopped going. The worst I ever saw was a hipoint 995 got these 2 rednecks in a bidding war and ended up going for $900. After it was over I went up to the loosing redneck and told him to follow me to the range and I would sell him mine for $700 and he did. After that trans was over, I went inside the range/LGS and got me an AR for 750otd that was the cheapest AR I have bought. I won the Hipoint at a shoot for closest to bull at 300yds with a 10/22. so I had a total of $50 in the AR.
  12. bkelm18- I agree totally with your thoughts on tin foil meter, that is as high as mine goes as well. I wont be around for post apocalypse earth so I don't need to save the earth.
  13. Steel- I always thought that was the case, All the discussions on the boards make me feel there is a difference. Or we just have a lot of hating for lower cost guns going on.
  14. Was just informed that they have the DPMS 308 for $895. That is a great way to get in the 308 semi-auto
  15. Not everyne has an extra grand sitting around so I think this would be a great sub $600 AR. There are better ones for more but this is probably the best prebuilt you can get for that money. DPMS builds decent stuff, I have had 2 including a sportical. I would pick one up at that price play with it for a while to see if the AR is for you and then resell it for $500. At $500 even the gunsnobs would think about picking that up you will sell it same day for that price. You could also go out and get a PCF lower and swap out the lower and charge 750 like the one I saw on here 3 weeks ago and then you could sell the other lower for 250 like the one that is currently on another site. You would have 700 invested and sell it all for 1000 and go out and get a "better" rifle. I love reading the AR discussions because it seems like most people have the opinion that if you don't buy the best then there is no need for having one. I think that getting the best you can for your budget is the best gun.
  16. I only put rifles in the mix because if I see a large group of gun toting zombies coming up the hill. I would like to resolve that situation before they get to close. As far as the round count I am stocking up on is because if we have a situation where supply lines are cut off. I would like to have enough ammo for 1-2yrs for not just defending my place but after that i would like to hunt/practice. I heard from some friends that it took almost 2 yrs after Katrina to be able to walk up and buy ammo. They said most places they checked said they got the ammo in and was sold out in matter of hours. They also stated that 90% of the LGS have still are not open today meaning you can only shop big box.
  17. cloud- I don't have any problems with AR or home builds. I have a problem with good ol Bubba thinking he is going to make some cash by building an AR and asking 2 time what the parts are for. Those guys always get used or questionable parts and cheap out everywhere they can. The only way I can get 5 AR's and maintain a reasonable budget would be to get these basement builds and then you are getting a very sub par rifle. East- I am doing 5 for each because these packs will be stored at the house/car of each person so they can get to the safe house and have everything in one bag when they get there. That was my main reason for not using a shotgun. In my experience a HD shotgun has a lot less accuracy past 10 yds, that is why I went with a carbine instead and for up close situations a handgun is way easier to draw and move with. To get a multi use shotgun it needs to be 20in barrel or more, that makes it hare to get in a pack plus having to carry 3 types of ammo for it would be heavy and bulky. With the 357 setup I can put 200 rounds of 357, a box of 22lr, and 100rounds of 243 for about the same weight and size as 2 boxes of 12ga shells. so using a shot gun with 3 types of ammo with it would significantly weigh down the packs. and leav less room in the bag for other supplies. Once they are a the safe house there will be other choices and plenty of ammo but I would like everyone to have options they are very familiar with before they get there.
  18. It is not local but when I was about 12-13 me and some friends went to AL Capones old house in MI and walked up on several couples getting it on. It took them about 10 mins to figure out we were there. During that time we relized that we reconized 2 of the people. We watched in amazement as our pricipal was cheating on his wife with one of the girls that went to the highschool. Needless to say we never got introuble at school again. We went back every chance we could just in case.
  19. Did a quick search and there is a guy that goes by the screen name BUCK on http://americanlongrifles.org who use to own a gibson rifle. He might know where it is now. Also sent an email to a friend that is a patient lawyer and if you family ever lived in TX he held the original patient on a recoil pad. Here is a link to the patient filed in 1923 http://www.google.tk...epage&q&f=false on the left of that page there is a link to a drawing of the pad as well
  20. thanks to Monkeylizard for putting this together, can't wait for next time.
  21. There is a thing called snake away, they sell it a home depot. I am pretty sure it is just moth balls relabeled. I have used this with TONS of success. We had a huge problem with snakes in a barn and we put a pile in the ceter of the barn and gave a few days for the snake to leave the barn and then we spread it around the outside of the barn and have not seen another snake in 3 years. We were finding 3-4 copperheads a day before we did that. We have not seen a copperhead on the property since, mainly because chasing them out of the barn took away the place they set up shop. I would line your yard with the snake away/moth balls and that should take care of things and alow you to hang out on the couch with little disruptions.
