I bought a new gun at the show on Sunday

Savage Model 12FVSS in .308.

So the last time I was into guns, (16 years ago), I wouldn't own a Savage if it was given to me. The rifle I used on the PD was a custom built .308 on a Mauser 98 action because you had to pay through the nose to get a Model 700 action...if you could find one.

I was looking at a Remington XCR Long-Range in .308 when I asked the vendor if I could talk to the most knowledgeable representative there, (there were about 10 of them), about the long guns. The guy said that bang-for-buck I was better off to get the above at $699 than the XCR LR at $1,249. The trigger pull is great with a clean/crisp 1.5 lbs pull. I haven't fired it yet, but I most likely will this weekend.

So did I take it in the butt?

Savage has come a long long way! The benifits of owning a Savage out weight the benifits of other brands in these modern times abound.

I'm getting the scope mounted tonight, and afterwards I'll post pics. LOL!

The mounts that I bought last night at Specialty Arms in La Vergne, (who was the vendor at the gun show that sold me the gun), aren't right, so I'm taking it there tonight after work to get it straight.

At least he figured out how to post a new thread, muchless how to post a picture. I am still trying to figure out how to start a new thread, muchless post pictures. Sounds like a good deal to me, as I have a Predator custom built .308 that has a Savage action.

Where are the long range gun ranges in the middle Tennessee area? Stones River is only 100 yards.

Montgomery County Shooting Complex has a 400yrd range.

There are two 1K ranges in Tennessee.. One in Oak Ridge (ORSA) and the other in Tullahoma on the NGTC next to Arnold Air Force Base. To shoot at ORSA, you either have to come shoot on the match days.. which are on the second weekend of the month or join and become a member.. Tullahoma, only on approved match days provided that the NG is not in a training cycle there.

Thanks guys. Since I haven't done long distance shooting for 16 years, I don't think I'm ready for matches yet. LOL! ORSA sounds appealing, and $120 year is what the ranges around here charge for an annual membership. The drive would be worth the challenge of the distance to the range.
