Transporting Handguns

I am not sure if this is the proper forum to post this, but If I am driving inside the State can I keep a gun, unloaded in my trunk of the car and ammo in the glove box both locked without a carry permit since I do not now have now and possibly might not be able to get that? I go to some ranges here, and that is usually when I have my gun in the car but if stopped for another reason like traffic violation do I say I have a gun in the trunk?

Thanks

As a former cop (although not from this state) I would say, no. There is no requirement to notify a Police Officer of anything you have in your car…. And he doesn’t care.

You do not have to tell him. But keep in mind that if you have ammo in your glove box, he will see it if you reach for your registration. the question may come up, but you are still legal to have them seperated. just make sure there is no ammo near the gun, gun in the trunk...

I would say to take your registration, and insurance out of the glove box, put it in an envelope and in your visor...ammo in the glove box, and lock it.

another thing...dont speed, or break the traffic laws...

why wouldn't you?if you can buy one from a dealer you should have no problem getting a permit

Well I think there are a few differences, where you can buy and posses, but can not carry, I might be wrong but you might check out the other thread I have under this category asking about this.
