I use gold dot 124g+p hp now in my carry xd9 service.im changing to federal le tactical bonded after seeing the ballistics comparison.

the question is should I use the 124g+p tbhp, or the 135g+p tbhp

they both have good reviews, and are both law enforcement edition

also is there any difference in the le grade other than a small amount in velocity

here a link to the comparison chart: http://www.le.atk.com/Interior.asp?section=1&page=pages/federal/fed_pistol_tatical.asp

link to the ammo if needed:

Between the 2, I'd go with the lighter one, since the short barrel on the XD SubCompact won't allow either to reach its rated velocity, but the 124gr will get closer. Also, it's the same weight as your previous carry load, making it more likely to have similar subjective performance from your point of view.

Where are these ballistics comparisons you mentioned? I'd be surprised if the federal projectile performed radically better in gelatin than a gold-dot pushed to similar velocities...

I don't think it will make the slightest bit of difference as long as you are equally happy with them.

People get so wrapped up with "is Gold Dot better than Silver Tip" or "will 125gr work better than 140gr." The greatest single determinant of effectiveness is shot placement. So once someone chooses hollow point it won't really matter which one he gets as long as he can shoot it effectively and it works well in the intended gun.

Is there anything at all undesirable regarding bonded JHPs vs. standard JHPs?

Undesirable? Not at all.

Some just get wrapped up with the idea that they "need" a bonded bullet. I would submit that unless you are likely to shoot into glass or hardened targets, a non-bonded bullet may be a better option for the average CCWer as they typically display larger recovered diameters in gel testing (example, Federal HST vs. Fed Tactical Bonded...Win Ranger-T non-bonded vs. Win Ranger-T bonded...Rem Golden Saber non-bonded vs. Rem Golden Saber bonded).

Having said that, Rabbi is exactly right...shot placement is everything and bullet selection is a distant second.

strickj...both listed rounds are great ones. Assuming that both are 100% reliable in your weapon, I would go with the most accurate.

strickj...more info on your two rounds from a very credible, independant tester @ www.tacticalforums.com

5 shot averages noted below

9mm Fed 124 gr JHP LE9T1 (lot #244776T201) S&W 5906

Bare: VEL = 1174 f/s PEN = 14.1” RD = 0.59” RL = 0.33” RW = 119.9 gr

Denim: VEL = 1180 f/s PEN = 14.7” RD = 0.54” RL = 0.39” RW = 122.1 gr

9mm Fed 135 gr +P JHP LE9T5 (lot #3 24T318) S&W 5906

Bare: VEL = 1070 f/s PEN = 16.0” RD = 0.58” RL = 0.36” RW = 126.6 gr

All of these are great 9mm rounds if...

1. They work in YOUR gun.

2. You do YOUR part.

Federal Tactical 124+P gr JHP

Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P JHP

Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr +P JHP

Winchester Ranger-T 127 gr +P+ JHP

Federal Tactical 135 gr +P JHP

Federal HST 147 gr JHP

Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP

Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP

Winchester Ranger-T 147 gr JHP

5 of the 9 are not bonded.

I personally like the bonded.being a wheelchair user I think of not being able to jump out of my car to engage a target,or jumping out of bed to hit a threat around the corner quickly.

I want something that will penetrate glass or drywall effectively
