Taurus PT709 Range Report

Today me and my 9 year old took my pt709 to the range. I bought this gun because it's fairly inexpensive to feed, easily concealable and comfortable to CCW when I go for runs.

I set up the target at 5 yards, loaded the gun, got the target in my sight picture. Took my time, squeezed and BANG! Nothing on paper.... WTF?!?!

took another shot, missed again... So, I started to aim at extremes, pointed at the bottom of target, nothing. Aimed at the top of the target and hit the bottom. So, I adjusted the sight and began to hit paper. after 20 rounds of walking it in and frustrating the range cops with my constant adjustments (They were great, really- very nice and helpful), and after 100 rounds of 147 grain jhp's, I was able to get a 3 inch group with 7 rounds at 5 yards with a super slim, extra compact 3 inch barrel.

I was very frustrated at first, and blamed the gun, then I blamed the ammo, then I was sure that there were small earthquakes making me miss, then I shot from a rest. SOB! It was me. At five yards, it looked as if I had peppered the target with a shotgun. I adjusted my grip and squeeze and started hitting with consistency. The trigger and size is very different from my 1911. But, for everything that the gun is; small, light, well built, reliable, and a great ccw or backup (and accurate in the right hands)-- it does it all very well.

300 rounds of federal JHP, no fte's, stove pipes, misfires,- I can say I trust my life to this gun. With more practice with these ultra compact pistols, I will be as good with this as I am with my 1911.

I would highly recommend this handgun.
