Failing to go into battery

Recommended Posts

Failure to return to battery doesn't always mean you need a stiffer spring, in fact, in a new gun with a fresh spring it can mean you actually need a lighter one to get the slide-speed up. An 18.5lb recoil spring is pretty stout, definitely stout for WWB or any reloads that feel around the same PF, most competition shooters run a 14#, so you might want to maybe try a 16# and see what you get, remember that a lighter one will usually feed better, shoot flatter and tend to tame the recoil, NOT heavier as many mistakenly believe.

Mainspring weight matters and plays a role too, most stock ones are between 19#-23# so you should be just fine.

Also, despite what you may hear by going lighter, frame-battering is of no real concern unless you plan on running 1000+ +P loads through it on the same spring or decide you want to run as low as an 8#-10# (some do as it shoots really nice with softer reloads).
