TRP finish wear

Recommended Posts

So my TRP is about a yet old but I've only carried it probably 6 months. I now have some finish wear on the beavertail. I don't recall ever bumping it or hitting it hard on something. Anyone else experience anything like this? It doesn't upset me, but I would like to have it fixed if it's a defect problem. I it's just normal wear I can get the beavertail recoated later.

Obligatory crappy cell pics

That looks a lot like simple wear from being in contact with your clothes/body from being carried as opposed to coming off from a bump or something. I'm right handed and have a couple with similar wear patterns.

I haven't worried much about it.

This was my thoughts, just wanted a little "other user" confirmation. as I said I could always pull the beavertail an have it re-Armor Coated later if I really felt the desire.

If it's a contact point when you're wearing it, your clothes/body is the likely culprit.

I've got a Kimber Warrior that I absolutely don't baby.  Carrying it in kydex, it's got some significant wear.  Interestingly, though my worst wear is right on the beavertail, just like yours.

I'd say it sees more contact than I notice. I carry in OWB Galco, and ride in the truck a lot. So I imagine it sees a lot of 'cover garment contact'

I've always liked to see good, honest wear. Adds character! Have you not noticed this over time, during cleanings and such? I would think normal wear would be sort of progressive.

I didn't really notice it until it was pronounced. I don't clean it but about every 1000 rds or so. So most mornings I just grab it do a press check and safety check and go. But the uneven edges and lack of scratches leads me to believe its progressive wear.

So your carry gun could have the filth of 900some rounds through it at a given time? Wow.

Yeah, and it runs like a scolded dog too :D

I do wipe it down with an oily rag, but it's not as dirty as you might think. Plus I use grease on the rails and barrel lugs. It never even gets close to tacky. Plus I'll change the recoil spring every 2k.

My TRP runs like a banshee too, but I carry her all cleaned up...just in case. Back to your topic at hand, I'd just leave it alone. Seeing that wear from honest use looks much better than some sharpie marker on your TRP.
